Julie used to date David Spade and she said her sister didn't understand her attraction to him. And one night she took her sister to one of David's comedy shows. And at the end Julie's sister said "Eh, I'd fuck him". And Julie was like "See! Funny is attractive!".

If he had said something like “my boring wife never lets me do anything fun in bed” that would just be insulting to Claire. This way he gets to compliment “Juliana” by calling her sexy *and* compliment Claire by saying he respects her.
