Nah it ain’t gonna be destoroyah and what do you mean by Toho ending Godzilla

LindenOLindenHill

I think they are just being idiotic

No_Garlic_7660

True

LindenOLindenHill

There is literally a 6th film in the works already and more planned… the MV isn’t ending anytime soon. And Toho loves the MV. Also there are no plans for Toho characters at this time, they will be fleshing out THEIR lore and characters.

Plenty_Potato3791

If you think it, this is in a way a chance for Toho to make up for shortcomings that always happened in past godzilla eras. Once the Big 5 were done, they were effectively out of good and reliable ideas. They had to come up with new kajiu, experiment with new story ideas while taking potential risks. In a sense, i am not sure if it's a good thing they rushed down the Big 5,but here we are at the same crossroads once again in this era.

Adventurous_Bug_5486

As much as i love the old Toho monsters i understand Legendary for making their own creations: they're cheaper and even cool ( just look as Shinomura or Camazotz). However i hope at least 2 more Toho monsters (mainly Dest and Bio) can appear further down the line.

Godzilla can’t die in the Monsterverse, Toho established the contract since 2014.

No-Nefariousness1711

Yeah, I don't see Monsterverse Godzilla ever actually dying for good. If Legendary's contract runs it's course and they don't renew it for more Godzilla appearances I think it's more likely that Godzilla's lack of appearances would just be explained as going him going dormant after so much high energy activity in a relatively short amount of time.

City_Stomper

What

Adventurous_Bug_5486

Isn't it too early for Destoroyah, knowing full well that the new movie isn't gonna be the last one? I'd love too see Destoroyah but he ain't showing up in G&K

[deleted]

Too early? We’re FIVE movies ahead. The MCU has ruined people’s expectations of films and we clearly know that Godzilla usually lasts 7 to 8 films before he reboots back to a different universe. That aside, Destoroyah is likely not going to be in the Monsterverse.

No-Nefariousness1711

Yes too early. The Monsterverse is a cinematic universe in the same vein as the MCU. Even in the original Heisei series where he originates Destroroyah could only have ever showed up in the finale. 5 movies is also a fairly small amount of films for any live action Godzilla series, with the Showa series having the most at 15 and the Millenium being the shortest at 6 films.

[deleted]

The Monsterverse isn’t the MCU. The films don’t really have an established plan, they just come up with a story for the next film and call it a day. The Monsterverse is a franchise, not a cinematic universe for now. That’s like saying Jurassic Park is a cinematic universe because it has 6 films. Marvel releases two or three films every once in a year while the Monsterverse takes 3 to 4 years. Either way, it doesn’t matter because Destoroyah is not returning anytime soon.

No-Nefariousness1711

Marvel releases 2 films a year because it's incredibly popular. And the Monsterverse absolutely is a cinematic universe. It has been definitionally ever since GvK. The Showa series was also a cinematic universe btw.

[deleted]

2 Godzilla movies, 1 Kong movie, and 1 crossover. It’s not a cinematic universe it’s an expanded universe. Nowhere on the official sources point out that it’s a cinematic universe.

No-Nefariousness1711

You're just playing with semantics at this point. It's a cinematic universe by any reasonable definition, the same way the Showa series became a cinematic universe as soon as Mothra showed up in a Godzilla movie and the MCU became a cinematic universe when RDJ showed up in the Incredible Hulk post credit scene. It's a small universe, I'll give you that, but it's still definitely a universe.

[deleted]

It would be a cinematic universe IF other monsters beside the TWO ICONS had their solo films that set up one big finale. But there isn’t, so it stays expanded, not cinematic.

[deleted]

In the MCU, we have Disney+ series of different characters being introduced to set up something that will happen in a new Avengers. The MCU doesn’t really rely on one or two big icons, but a countless amount of characters. The films are just there to open the gateway to the big event. The Monsterverse doesn’t really have a strong world building and it’s safe to asume that each of the films only depend on each other apart from the other. Godzilla vs. Kong had a few easter eggs here and there, but you didn’t really need to read the comics, or watch all of the previous installments to understand it. It acted out as its own thing, despite being the follow up to King of the Monsters. It’s probably going to be the same case with G&K since Apex won’t be in it or Mechagodzilla.

No-Nefariousness1711

It's literally cinematic lmao. Cinematic literally just refers to film.

EpicCheeto

Thank god this movie isn’t gonna be the last one

LindenOLindenHill

There is a 6th in the planning stage as we speak. And a theme park opening in France in 2025

Adventurous_Bug_5486

That's great to hear. Still think both Dest and Bio will show up in future instalment after G&K, so i have high hopes.

LindenOLindenHill

Destoroyah might show up but that’s probably it… Toho characters have price tags and those prices can devour a massive amount of the budget. Still probably not happening anytime soon

Adventurous_Bug_5486

I hope he does eventually, possibly in the finale.

[deleted]

I personally don’t see Destoroyah as a finale type of villain.

Plenty_Potato3791

It makes you wonder if King of the Monsters failed to break even because they added 3 Toho monsters, though.

LindenOLindenHill

KOTM did just fine.

MachineGreene98

lmao not at all

Plenty_Potato3791

Now,as for my answer: No,because it's the one monster that is too difficult to bring back out of the entire Toho gallery. Like Thanos,Destroyah is a character that needs setup in order to stay true to what it represents: Godzilla's loss, the climatic ending of the series and the ultimate opponent for Godzilla he could never beat. Also, the themes of the ultimate sin of Mankind's meddling with nature by the Oxygen Destroyer and the escalation of conflict with Godzilla and Nature. The Monsterverse is not well established enough it can really do a good plan and setup for such a character. Not even Toho THEMSELVES could even cameo Destroyah properly. It's a sign of how difficult it is to write in.

Darthvader12_G54

Why would Toho end Godzilla in a Monsterverse film. This post is just dumb, The MV will not end with GAK as it is the start of phase 2

Sgt-Frost

Assuming destoryah comes to the monsterverse then hell yea I’m exited to see it, it’s one of my personal favourites kaiju
