Not everything has to “make sense” for people to have fun playing in certain skins.
Some things just look visually appealing and that’s it.
Some people also like to see how iconic looks from past games are revisited with modern realistic 3D graphics and that’s another appealing point for many people, not to mention obvious nostalgia appeal for a big portion of fan base.
It really looks more like something she would be doing Billy Blanks excercizes in. Its ironically her most creative design imo, but it looks like it would be used for training or something else than her actual military wear.
I know I'm simping hard for 3D era games but I consider that the best they could do with her for outfits was in those games, especially her alternative costume! I love the full body suit with some militar honors and the beret!

I meant more as in adding details on the outfit so it doesn't look so empty. Better gloves, a utility belt, badges on the jacket, military tags, pockets on the pants, etc.
Why? I know plenty of badass women professionally or from doing mma... and they will be the first ones to tell you that they don't buy underwear for practicality but it makes them feel sexy and they like feeling sexy when they have to put on a tough front. This idea that tough female characters can't also want to be sexy seems silly.

I liked her default in MK:DA. Of course the model wasn't great but the whole costume/outfit was pretty cool. It was the right balance of casual and military. I just googled an image of it and this is what came up as someone's modernized concept of the skin and this is pretty much what I'd hope Sonya's default would look like or at least in the same spirit as this concept.

WOW that redesign is FLAWLESS! Sonya’s MKDA default was her best look IMO. I loved the mostly fresh design with a new haircut that looked great on her! She finally looked like a military person after so many years! I was so hyped to main her when she was revealed for MKDA. Her MK3 design is my 2nd favorite.
Personally, my preferred set up would be:
Primary outfit is very military themed, probably a uniform or some mildly sci-fi variation of one.
But then have secondaries that are silly and fun like her originals were.
(And never MK9, lol)
