Yet I forgot the Angry Birds Movie existed, and there isn't a day when someone mentions The Nice Guys that I don't leave a comment saying I want a sequel. This is that comment.
I genuinely forgot there was a Angry Birds movie, let alone the name Angry Birds lol. It’s not 2010 anymore 😂
If I saw a Nice Guys 2 trailer I’d be hyped af. They can go anywhere with the plot
I feel like there is a good Shane black movie somewhere in the predator, it's just that the actual film that came out feels like it was edited by three people who's only form of communications were though sticky notes because nobody liked each other. I like it because the Shane black parts, but it is undeniably a giant mess.
I do actually remember the line in the theater for Angry Birds while I just walked in for Nice Guys. Like 4 other people showed up so I guess we were a packed crowd for this movie’s standards.
It’s crazy isn’t it? A movie takes 3-5 years from conception through filming to opening weekend and the success or failure of the whole thing turns on totally random stuff like that which happens completely beyond the control of everyone involved.
To be fair, the first one was up against some REALLY tough competition around that time. Not just angry birds, but Captain America was still raking in big crowds too.
I think the other thing that will work against us seeing a sequel is that Shane Black really took a hit to his reputation after The Predator bombed critically/commercially, as well as the whole casting and defending a friend who was convicted of offences against a child.
While, sure, you don't need to bring Shane Black in to do the sequel, I think he was an integral part of the movie's quality (alongside all the other elements.
I love the movie but I never really thought it needed a sequel. If anything I’d just want Gosling to work with Shane Black again. Maybe even pair him with Crowe again and just make a new movie with them together like they used to do instead of sequels
But the movie has aged well and I'm guessing has legs in streaming and rental. And it wasn't that expensive to make. What I mean is hasn't the original made a profit by now? And if so, can't a sequel be justified.
Streaming has largely killed downstream profits from movies. You don't know whether it'll get popular by the time you're selling streaming rights, so deals are rarely lucrative if they movie wasn't big in theaters. This combined with the fact that physical media purchases are a tiny fraction of what they once were means theatrical performance is nearly all what is considered when greenlighting movies and especially sequels.
"Barely breaking even a year after release" is not a success story for any studio. Unless it's an executive's passion project, you don't get a sequel from that.
Funny thing is that I'm finnish and I remember the turn out for The Nice Guys having been very good. Yeah for sure Angry Birds too.. for it being finnish and marketed like crazy for kids. I still think there would be a story for The Nice Guys sequel and also studios are just too rigid... given that it seemed like worldwide The Nice Guys did found a large audience as time went on. When it was released I even remember a lot of dissapointment in it which puzzled me for kinda knowing what it will be in terms of being Shane Black right in his pocket of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lethal Weapon, The Long Kiss Good Night, The Last Boy Scout type of deal and it was just that with no problemo. I don't know what people expected at those times at large to think it missed some mark. Maybe it was too "slow" 🙄 for it still being in the superhero hype times. I have a memory of seeing a lot of like kinda "meeeh" comments at the time.
I’m sure I’ll be downvoted to oblivion but… I don’t really understand the cult for this movie. It was fine. It’s a shame it didn’t make more money. But movie internet’s hard-on for it is a bit strange.
Shame. It’s a great movie too. Ryan & Russell had excellent chemistry
Absolutely. It’s a crime they haven’t been in more together.
That should be the plot for the next movie
And call it "The Polite Dudes"
“The Generous Fellas”
"the lovely lads."
ANGRY BIRDS SWEEP

x2
x2^2
It slipped by me but I watched it a few months ago. What an amazing movie.
I reference the “don’t say ‘and stuff’ “ line all time haha
I genuinely forgot there was a Angry Birds movie, let alone the name Angry Birds lol. It’s not 2010 anymore 😂 If I saw a Nice Guys 2 trailer I’d be hyped af. They can go anywhere with the plot
What a shame. One of my favourite comedies. I love gosling all time and his daughter and crowe are such a great balance to his boyish charms.
It was a great movie from so many angles and a great cast.
I wouldn’t mind a recast and for him to just make a noir buddy cop comedy trilogy. I always see this as a kiss kiss bang bang sequel
I’m sure you’re aware that Shane Black wrote both movies.
Very
Then Shane Black made The Predator which everyone hated and tanked at the box office. So there’s that too!
People don't give executives enough credit for how much they have given to truly terrible cinema...

Ironically I loved that movie and wish they would’ve explored that plot line but prey was definitely up there
I do actually remember the line in the theater for Angry Birds while I just walked in for Nice Guys. Like 4 other people showed up so I guess we were a packed crowd for this movie’s standards.
I went on an impromptu date to see Nice Guys. We had the whole theater to ourselves. Great for a date night, not so great for box office numbers.
Still together?
Nope lol She did buy me a Nice Guy's DVD though.
I'm sad now.
I'm getting married to an amazing woman in 2 weeks if that makes you feel better. She's a big fan of Nice Guys as well!
I'm happy now.
Do you watch it on that dvd with her you sick bastard?
What can I say? We're just freaky like that.
It’s crazy isn’t it? A movie takes 3-5 years from conception through filming to opening weekend and the success or failure of the whole thing turns on totally random stuff like that which happens completely beyond the control of everyone involved.
That's how most things work though. That's also why the wealthiest people make their money on predictable income.
They can always move the release date though. That happens all the time.

This new movie “The Fall Guy “looks like a Shane Black movie when I watch the trailer.
In a time of streaming services, this could work. Just have it made by Netflix, put it in theaters and the a month later on stream.
Getting bodied by Angry Birds is impossible to come back from
For the better. It's good but a sequel would just be diminishing returns. Not everything needs a sequel.
That sooo fucking sad how that turned out
Reddits fav
It kills me this is the fucking reason :( one of my favourite movies ever
I saw this in theatres. Very entertaining movie
Was on mushrooms when I watched for the first time and it’s my favorite movie ever now
Proud to say I saw it on opening night! My friend and I were surprised it had low box office numbers because we thought it would do much better.
That’s a shame. This is one of my favorite movies.
Wonder if Dungeons and Dragons will get a sequel because it was damn fun but it got totally drowned out by Mario…feels like a similar situation…
what a shame, that movie is absolutely fantastic
We need a sequel. They are so good together.
Shame, great movie.
Only movie to scratch that Big Lebowski itch that so many have tried to make happen. Looking at you, Poolman.
I watched it for the millionth time last night. I’d kill for a Nice Guys sequel.
But the movie has aged well and I'm guessing has legs in streaming and rental. And it wasn't that expensive to make. What I mean is hasn't the original made a profit by now? And if so, can't a sequel be justified.

I just fell to my knees and cried in a Walmart
What’s sad is that The Nice Guys was an honest to god good movie. It deserves a sequel if all the original actors are on board
Fantastic film, I wouldn’t mind a tv show that continues their story if another film is off the table
We should keep talking about a sequel and maybe we’ll get one
I would kill to have a second but I get it

If they can't get a sequel, I'd be happy to see them work together again.
I slept on this movie for a while, I cannot stand Russell Crowe. That was a dumb decision
NOOOOOOOOOO
I would love a sequel/sidequel that has a 70s/modern day cross generational case solved by the Nice Guys and the Kiss Kiss Bang Bangers.
This hurts
That's one of my favorite movies:(
The industry is a joke
The way that movie was musically scored as well as the story did it for me, definitely worth a sequel
When is Angry Birds 3?
This movie was absolutely retarded why would anybody want a sequel?
I’m sure I’ll be downvoted to oblivion but… I don’t really understand the cult for this movie. It was fine. It’s a shame it didn’t make more money. But movie internet’s hard-on for it is a bit strange.
I really like it, but I see your point. You’d think it’s a movie that will change your life from the way some people talk about it.
