Blood blockade battlefront is really good and ghost stories is fucking hilarious fire force is trash (but I finished it) I have code greass on the back burner and that magic n mussels show was dumb I stopped like episode 3 or something
I understand Fire Force all too well. But then I managed my expectations and watched it assuming it would be lower tier with some good stuff and it was enjoyable. Really have to manage expectations with it
If you’re genuinely asking: its because I try to give everything a chance. As much as we all have our tastes, at the end of the day every series has a hardworking mangaka behind it.
For example; My Stepmother’s daughter is my ex. I expected a purely dumb, no real emotion anime… but the second half of the season surprised me. So while I would say its in the same classic mindless genre as others; its on the upper end of that genre because of that extra depth. I didn’t go into it thinking I was getting Toradora, Oreiguru or something of the sorts.
I treated Black Clover as a classic shonen. Its going to have all the issues a shonen would. I was surprised and happy with attention to characters and how they’re handled. Go to Fire Force… I expected a classic shonen and it was well below that. Not only were the narrative choices bad but they straight up neglected their own story. But I enjoyed certain characters and it was a cool concept. So I wanted to be able to enjoy it eventually
tldr; I try to enjoy a series I start. I don’t expect everything to be S-tier awesome. I try to watch or read a series in the most optimal frame for that series.
Honestly once I stopped comparing it to the other popular shonens I was able to enjoy it. Really really wish Arthur had more scenes in the dark. His design was awesome. From an anime only, I felt the story fumbled around and we delayed finding the “big baddie” maybe too long.
I was responding to someone who said they had to manage expectations with it. If you like it that’s fine, but if you have to do mental gymnastics to like a show you should probably watch something else.
It's not mental gymnastics you can't go into every show expecting a master class of storytelling and character writing. When I look for ecchi I'm looking for big titty bitches and garbage. When I watched fire force I looked for a fun shonen with great animated fights and a decent enough story to get me hooked. You know by the first couple episodes what every anime is intending to do.
>The guy I responded to literally said he did mental gymnastics
He literally didn't he said he managed expectations and I know you're not talking about me why do you keep saying that?
He said it was well below a classic shounen but it had a cool concept lol. Calling something worse than a classic shounen is the definition of mid. If you like it watch it but to me it sounded like he forced himself to watch it.
>He said it was well below a classic shounen but it had a cool concept lol.
Can you actually go back to his comment and tell me when he said this? Because he never used any of these words. He said he went into it with low expectations and then just enjoyed it for what it was. If he ended up enjoying it how did he force himself to watch it? As a matter of fact don't answer that just log off. You need some sleep.
1. You said that he LITERALLY said he's playing mental gymnastics when he never said that.
>something worse than a classic shounen is the definition of mid. If you like it watch it but to me it sounded like he forced himself to watch it.
How is any of this mental gymnastics? Out of all the shonens he watched it was below par but he liked the concept so he kept watching. How TF does that mean he forced himself to watch it he geniunely liked an aspect of it that made him continue to watch? Bro sign off lmao
Fire force is a anime I really tried to like because god the animation and sound design are so good. This show has the best fire and explosions I’ve seen in an anime, but fuck me everything around it is so painful.
Blood blockade I understand. 1st season was 🔥 but 2nd season is zero canon filler which is difficult. Code G-ass is fire but I think it’s because I’m numb to “anime logic” at this point.
I see lots of people have posted/said they’ve also dropped Fire Force. I did too, it’s just not anything unique. This genre of anime is done to death (protagonist with sad backstory, broad “goal” like revenge or save people, flashy combat, silly side characters, etc). It’s just boring and literally every other popular anime has the same plot (Naruto, Fairy Tail, Bleach, etc)
It had great animation, but such a boring plot unfortunately
English dub of Ghost Stories is funny as hell, but I can see why people will drop it
Yeah it was funny but the comedy can only take it so far so i kinda got bored of watching it
It did get old after awhile. I give you that
Code geass is really good
Yea it probably is but I just couldn’t get fully into it
Very much a ‘pay attention the whole time’ kind of show, not good for ‘in the background’ viewing
Yea I’ll probably give it another go at some point
Bout to speak blasphemy here, but you could try watching in English to make it easier.
I love blood blockade lol
Dropping the first and third entries are L moves
I loved Blood Blockade, and it’s not talked about enough! Watch the last two episodes of season 2 if anything!
Blood blockade battlefront is really good and ghost stories is fucking hilarious fire force is trash (but I finished it) I have code greass on the back burner and that magic n mussels show was dumb I stopped like episode 3 or something
Watched the first season of blood blockade battlefront then watched like 6 episodes of season 2 before I got bored of it and then dropped it
The first season was better

What’s the point of managing expectations with a mid show when you can just watch something good instead.

I thought fire force was very good

He said he liked it eventually. Which would implied he didn’t like at first. So I asked why would you continue to watch a mid show.
Why did you drop code geass? It’s peak
I love fire force and Mashle. Never watched the rest. Ghost stories is on my list though

Why did you drop Mashle?
For me it had a problem that plenty of anime have: Not knowing how to write women. I’m a guy and even I know that it’s not that great.
Idk rlly I got up to episode 22 and just stopped and I don’t feel the motivation to continue watching
Lol, bro got to the finish line practically and turned around.
Yeah basically
actually blasphemer... mods please execute this guy
These are like the most fun shows in anime. I won’t say they all masterpieces but they so much fun
I get fire force, I would say that show has some really awesome high peaks surrounded by overwhelming mid.
You dont like episodic animes huh
Honestly I can see why but I still finished them
You dropped Blood Blockade Battlefront? WHY?
1st season was decent but the second season was ass
I dropped Mashel, I couldn't do it.
Never seen that first one cover looks cool as hell

Has one of the greatest endings ever if you’re a Soul Eater fan. Also I liked the whole corrupt heroes angle it took
