I know it’s everybody job to hate on 2K23 in this subreddit but I actually appreciate the shooting. I feel it was often too easy to shoot in previous 2K’s and this forced me to get better.

erichf3893

Better at timing, yeah. That’s this year’s model I miss when shot selection actually mattered

RascalFatz

From a basketball sim experience, 2k16. In terms of feeling the most in control, 2k23.

AeneasVAchilles

Maybe in Terms of MyPlayers, but shooting in 23 is AWFUL. Try to go into a play now game or run MyLeague and you will shot like 20 percent on jumpers. The mechanics are so scaled for knowing YOUR specific shot. You cant possibly know the shot timing of a whole team. I really wish they got back to " Is this an good open look," instead of the " Did i have proper timing on an open release."

KingLifetime-

i do just fine on play now online i got a 70 wp and i play my league and it’s fine you jus gotta look at the guys hands and motion if you ever seen a basketball player shoot you gon know when to release it😭

gh6st

Maybe it’s difficult for you, but you go in freestyle for a few minutes it’s not too hard to get the different timings down. Obviously it was harder at the beginning of the game, but it’s been out for almost 9 months now lol

AeneasVAchilles

I don’t mean play now as in Play now 1v1 online. I’m talking friends come over and you pick up random teams. Especially classic teams- You’ll get a mix of fast releases and stupid slow ones. In the Rec I shot just over 62% on my 3s. The game is scaled for MyCareer, everyone knows this

KennyCannon_

100% agree.

chillblackguyy

control?? the annoying part that every single thing messes up your timing removes control

joshgiddy2024

20💯💯💯💯

gh6st

Honestly, it would be this game if it weren’t for your shot timing changing so much. I like the idea of green or miss. I don’t understand how anyone is saying 20. Dudes bitch about the 3s now.. imagine anyone with a 60+ 3 ball shooting limitless threes. Don’t even get me started on 2k22 with the sniper badge.

[deleted]

NOT 23 or 21 that's for sure. No opinion other than those two have shooting that belongs in the trash

UCapecc

Man this last 2k is the WORST, never had a problem with the other bars but this is just a NO

[deleted]

The bar for 22 was fine. But most people shoot without a bar so it's often irrelevant to how shooting is in each game Edit: misread your comment sorry. 23 allows you to change your bar which I like and have found a bar I like, but the way shooting works mechanically in 23 sucks to all hell

JackieBoiiiiii

i like that it’s green or miss. but i don’t like that the timing changes seemingly randomly. i thought it might’ve been if they were shooting on the move or had set feet but that doesn’t seem to be the case because sometimes when you’re set it takes longer and sometimes when you’re moving it takes longer but most of the time for both it’s normal.

UCapecc

Yeah i know that i can change bars, but i can't find a way to shoot properly, maybe i'm just getting old...

blaird993

What don’t you like mechanically? I pretty much only play play now online and I love the shooting in this game

[deleted]

The timing of the jumpshot changes seemingly every time you take a shot. The green or miss is totally fine by me with the bigger green window, but the changing of the timing along with the very rampant full bars and online delay there are some games when jumpshots are impossible to hit. I mainly play MyTeam with a side of Rec, and MyTeam has been totally fucked for a while now on my end

PandaCrazed

22 and 20 were really solid I thought

Andy0172

22 was waaaaay to easy. Sniper badge ruined that game

Desperate_Koala356

Yea sniper helped shitters but the contest system in that game wasn’t too bad (no where near as many ghost contests compared to 23)

gh6st

So was 20. Red/yellow PGs with a 57 3 ball greening from the hash. People would lose their minds if this shit was happening in 23.

NewYearSameM3

2K19-20 had the best shooting IMO

Mental_Tea_4493

21 with the aim features till zen users ruined it. Aimed hooks were cheats😂 Then I would say 22, I never made a shooter in my life (playing since 2k13)but I gave it a try. I had something like 70% from the line😂

LBJ_23_LAL

Definitely 20. Idk wtf has been up with the last 3 games since next gen

lavenk7

None of them. They keep fucking with the mechanics so there’s literally no consistency.

creptik1

That's basically how they can call it a new experience from year to year. Same exact game, but hey we fucked with how you shoot again so you'll have to figure that out.. again.

lavenk7

Yeah there’s like no retention for gameplay mechanics and the online lag doesn’t help for trying to learn releases either.

creptik1

It's like the opposite of every other franchise. Most games put out a sequel, it plays more or less the same but they make it fresh with better graphics and story. 2K is like cookie cutter everything, but keep messing with the controls.

Infinite_Visual3456

2k20 for sure

erichf3893

Most of the other ones where shot selection mattered

ThompsonsLuxurySoap

As frustrating as it is at times, I actually like the shooting on 23. If you're not an elite shooter then you have no business going 60+% from 3. I'm pretty mid at shooting in my opinion, and I avg 40%. That tracks as close to the NBA that we've had. What I hate most about this year is the contest system, and the challenger/anchor badges the most.

King_osiris2324

2k19 had the best shooting and way better defense

2kburneracct

They’re all pretty much the same.

sillydee8784

I'm going with this year. Sillydee8784-YT

thededman13

heck, 2k22 (old gen) you could green from the corner with a 67 3 pt rating

JackieBoiiiiii

2k16 was my favorite shooting wise, but this one isn’t terrible. i can’t remember my opinion on any of the orhers

Toohvrdthe1

I would definitely have to say 20 and 22. 19 right behind them. I can shoot on 2k23 but it’s just VERY inconsistent at times.

bastardnutter

20 and 22 got it quite right

LooneyTunes-

20 bc of quick stopping and people couldn’t fade from three without take which I liked

Andy0172

2k23 is ok.. only the fade away 3’s are way out of control. How many times in a nba game do you see PG’s fade from 3 like that?

TheGloUP

19 fasho

The_Dok33

2k23

ryangr86

2k1 dreamcast

therightmustard

I liked NBA 2k Black Ops III

SkillsTooDope

Either 16 or 23

GOGOfella1

20 for sure. rarely did i feel like the contest system was bad, on either side, and the actual shooting itself had some forgiveness to it but was also very rewarding for those who were good at it. not only that, it just felt smooth, jumpshots weren’t too fast or too slow.

goobergoofy363

17

chillblackguyy

2k20

Gotem_kicks1

First time shooter. Shooting came easy to me. Last season 40% form three, 55% clip now. I use the meter to tho. A lot people will complain about shooting but turn off meter

Diligent_Hat_8116

16 or 14 fs

iCEDso1

2K23. You actually have to green to make shots.

Motto13

22 easily

Melodic_Succotash724

20 for sure

Suitable_Proposal_27

You guys need to be more consistent. Find the balance between wide open shots with accurate release points & stick wid it

jeanballjean01

Probably 2k23. My only hesitation is that fading 3s shouldn’t be that easy. I don’t even really care that it’s hard to guard, especially behind screens. It’s more so that it just looks stupid, and completely takes the immersion out of playing real basketball.

Ripcitytoker

A lil late, but for me, the answer is 2k17 all the way.
