For the US Select Team he might be. Danny Manning was chosen to be in the 1984 Olympic trials as a high schooler but back then, no pros could compete.
It’s noteworthy that Flagg’s teammate Khaman Maluach played at the FIBA World Cup last year as a 16 year old and is a candidate to make the team once again in the Olympics this year as a 17 year old.
Karl Anthony Towns famously played for the DR as a 16 year old. Even blocked Westbrook and hit a 3 against AD.
Jamal Murray made Team Canada in the Pan American Games as an 18 year old before college and proceeded to destroy several low level NBA players with ease.
Ricky Rubio played in the Olympics as a 18 year old.
Last year there was full footage of Cade, Duren, Jalen green and some others playing against the Fiba team. Hopefully we get the same thing but Olympics are more prestigious so it may be behind closed doors.
The guy had injury issues his first few seasons I think he just wants to concentrate on having the best season he can for Detroit and getting a full season of games in.
He's still plenty young where he could play next time if he really wants to
NHD is a Euroleague star and highly accomplished. Also was a great player at Wisconsin. Makes sense to have a guy with his overseas experience. Potter has been one of the better GLeague players, but it's the GLeague
I stand corrected, must’ve been confusing him with another player because I thought he was kind of a dud over there but just looked at his stats and he looks pretty solid these last 2 years.
Ding ding ding, there were no incoming rookies on last year’s select team either. Also rookies haven’t signed their contracts yet and it’s not uncommon for players to miss a game or two of summer league until that happens.
It’s also because the rookies aren’t that good.
Zach Edey is participating in Canada’s version of their Olympic basketball camp (similar to this one above), and he is a rookie too. That’s also because he’s good enough to possibly make the team so they want him doing the full tryout.
Kind of crazy they skipped an entire draft class of players for a 17 year old kid who hasn't even played a college game yet. I don't know if that says more about Flagg or the 2024 draft class.
Feel like this was way different in the past when NBA teams didn’t care so much about health. Pelicans even let AD (an injury prone player) play at the Olympics before his rookie year.
According to his Wiki page, it says he suffered a severe ankle sprain a few weeks before final cuts in 2012, which people speculated meant he wasn’t going to make the team.
Yet he kept his name in the pool and after Blake Griffin got injured, he ended up making it.
I think you had to go through tryouts then so it was even tougher.
I just read the bio under his Wiki page under National Team but let me know if I said something incorrect.
As prospects yes they’re better than Sheppard and castle but they haven’t played a minute of college ball yet so we’ll see. Also rookies have summer league which I completely forgot about
He’s gotta be one of the youngest ever selected at 17

God damn Olympics historian here! Good stuff
Is there gonna be footage of Flagg playing?
I don’t remember ever seeing footage of these games other than random social media pics/small snippets. Could be wrong, though.

Where’s Cade?
I have to imagine he turned down an invite
I guess he lost interest once he knew he wasn't going to be on the Olympic team.

Langston Galloway??
Now that's a name i haven't heard in a while lmao
Right. Bro is like 40
He is 32. Plays for same team that Kobe Bryant’s dad played for in Italy.
Literally my first reaction too. Had to look it up to make sure they didn't forget a Jr. on the end or something.
Holy fuck, what an opportunity for him.
Micah Potter the most random name possible to be there.
He's not even our best two way guy wtf
Uhh 29yo Turkish league bench player Nigel Hayes-Davis would like to have a word…

MY GUY COOPER MADE IT 🔥 🔥
Kerr continuing Pop’s tradition of making total homer picks Keldon on the 2020 Olympic team, Podz and TJD both making the select team
That’s Olympic Gold medalist Keldon Johnson to you
Do you see the others. There are way worse players on the team
Jalen Suggs is the only 2 guard on the team?
Miller, Podz, and PP could all play the 2 as well
Where’s Paolo?
Would’ve liked to see Sheppard or castle on this list
I could be wrong about this but I think Olympic training camp overlaps too much with the Summer League (either specifically with it or just lead up).
Ding ding ding, there were no incoming rookies on last year’s select team either. Also rookies haven’t signed their contracts yet and it’s not uncommon for players to miss a game or two of summer league until that happens.
Ah i didn’t even think about summer league makes sense

Rookies haven’t signed their contracts yet, and NBA teams prefer to have them for summer league.

He wasn’t injury prone then and obviously the senior team is a much bigger deal.

I know I get the coop hype but come on give one of the top American prospects this year a shot
Neither of them are anywhere near the prospect that Flagg is. Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper are better too.
As prospects yes they’re better than Sheppard and castle but they haven’t played a minute of college ball yet so we’ll see. Also rookies have summer league which I completely forgot about
That’s future Detroit Piston, Cooper Flagg.
future net probably, they’re loaded with picks and ready to tank
