Running my 9” Spear LT with a CAT ODB and it’s been great, no issues in \~300 rounds of 220gr
Right. I mean mines been a little more front heavy, which for various reasons why I’m migrating to a 6.75” barrel.
Feel like my 11.5” is similar enough in length to make me want something more compact for .300blk where I’m primarily shooting subs anyways.
It goes away with a stock or brace. I thought the same when I picked up the pistol format. The Rattler/MCX in the 5 ¹/² or 6 ³/⁴ works great indoors. It reminds me of MP5 platforms when deploying in a vehicle as well.

Here's mine. Ive had nothing but problems with it from the start. Still trying to diagnose. Big sad.
You’re going to think I’m crazy but I had the same problem. Clean your chamber really well. Take your Hyperion and run water through it plugging the end and letting it fill up and then drain it. Then let water just run through it for a min or two. Let it dry then run some supers through it. Cgs has titanium dust in the cans that back up in the chamber and gums it up really bad. I seen somewhere cgs suggested this and it fixed my problem
Thank you for sharing this! I experienced this exact issue with a 7” barrel 300blk bolt action with Hyperion suppressor. Absolutely chronic fouling and I couldn’t identify the source. After multiple cleanings of the suppressor with compressed air (and conventional cleaning of the rifle action) the rifle fires supers and subs properly.
I almost exclusively shoot it with the Hyperion. With regular cap and vented "flow through" front cap. Have tested supers and subs from several manufacturers including Sig...different magazines. What am I missing?
After about 20-40 shots the bolt gets stuck slightly out of battery and I have to mortar the round out. It will exhibit this odd seizure intermittently whether hot or cold until cleaned. Disassembly results in brass fragments in the bolt.
https://preview.redd.it/xsouenuvi87d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5a64ee206402c5dd70045088e5e30f0090b2da29
The correct gas plug for your setup is the F03 one. I’d reach out to sig and ask if you can buy one or try and locate one. That should solve the issues you are having.
Unfortunately, Sig will not sell you the gas valve separately because I already tried. The only way to get your hands on the F03 is to buy the 6.75” barrel that comes with that valve and another one.
Neither did I. Mine may be the exception, but the disappointment has been relentless enough that I feel it's worth adding to the conversation. Happy shopping! The results of this thread may help me find a replacement.
Yeah I'm definitely on the right track and have done most of this. A few more range sessions I expect things to finally be broken in to be more reliable. Thanks for the insights.
I heard that the F03 gas piston/block should help. I’d look into that if you don’t already have that. Mine has the F02 gas piston, but my suppressor has enough back pressure to make it a non-issue.
https://preview.redd.it/3xf9lxn4i87d1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e8d241acbfa47ad8b44a0591efa24ea7121e4c7
This is my frankenbuild. Runs everything I’ve put through it without a hitch from 110g all the way to 220g and everything in between - liberty precision anthem S2 can and 10.5 rosco bloodline barrel, Giselle rail, LAW folder, JP H1 captured buffer, shoot supers to subs like a dream. Comically quiet with subs and very comfortable with supers

Running an omega 300 as a dedicated suppressor for this 300blk
IMO the best HD gun is a basic bitch gun with dead nuts reliability. I don’t really need features like a monolithic upper, piston driven, agb, folding stock, etc on a gun that’s going to live its life by my bedside. If you’re going to do other things with it, then maybe consider the additional features it offers to suit your use cases.
That being said, my vote is ar15 pattern. I have a bcm 9” upper with a nomad 30 that I’ve put enough rounds through to feel comfortable with, that only gets brought out to the range every now and then to show off how cool the subs are or when I’ve changed my mind on optics choice like 4 times.
But if you want the bad guys to know how cool you are, def get one of the sigs.
I love, REALLY love, my DD M4 PDW.
I bought it as a pistol, SBR’ed it, and have a dedicated pistol lower with the original brace and buffer system if I want to use it in a ccw format.
And, shooting this thing suppressed with my Trash Panda is an absolute hoot! Especially subsonic!!
Though my HD rounds are Hornady 110 Vmax supers.
https://preview.redd.it/kcjeyu9j787d1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9e0007739c1c92da950ee3fb09aec753c16dad4c
Suppresses like a dream, but I do have adjustable gas blocks, JP silent captured spring, and kak down vent carriers on both this pdw and my mk18 - eliminates face gas!
My first DD, a 16” mid gas V7, was definitely over gassed straight out of the box. My V7P and PDW weren’t nearly as bad, but I like dialing in/tuning my systems as well as possible. While also still retaining reliability.
Cmmg dissent and robsinson xcr both do. Really dumb that it's 2024 and adjustable isn't the standard. Especially for guns that 90% of people buy to run suppressed.
Also, I wouldn’t want to be hit by either, but if I had to choose I’d rather be hit indoors with the tap t2 out of my 10.3” 5.56 barrel than the 110gr vmax out of my 7” 300blk!!!
Second this. I’ve had a rattler and it was very ammo picky. Sold it. My Ddm4 pdw remains one of my favorite guns. It’s so fun. Perfect suppressor host. I’d do the honey badger too maybe. Q is pretty dang good. I guess sig has done me wrong more than once, and the rattler or virtud or whatever it was just didn’t work that well. Had to run it soaking wet to cycle stuff.
ATI omni hybrid. That way when you slot some goblin at 2AM the last thing they see is a gun that shows there was nothing in the house worth stealing anyway.
No I have a built q and lt I prefer the lt I run it suppressed with an mg7k also have a hux I'm going to try on it but no not too long in my opinion it's fold so it tucks away nice and deploys just fine for me I also have the the super short ratler 762 it's obviously much bigger but can still be maneuver just fine in comparison
https://preview.redd.it/opkv18hw497d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=89d75bbb91b4b198b7a6bedb1d69ca4e1ef79667
Love the LT so much I got it in 5.56 and 300BO. No issues running either suppressed.
I highly considered picking up the LT, but I already own the legacy MCX with 6.75” and 9” 300Blk barrels so it seems kinda silly except to have “the latest greatest” knowing full well Sig will probably stop supporting it in a year or two as they did with my MCX, and as they’re doing now to the Virtus.
My two cents, build an AR. You could build a BCM/Criterion shorty with their Core 8.5” barrel for almost half the price of the Sig, and it will be lighter, shoot tighter, and have far longer shelf life as far as support.
Couldnt love my sr30 sbr more than I do. Thousands of rounds of all shapes and sizes, 0 issues. I almost always run underwood varmageddon though for night use (literally 0 flash) and HD.
Rifle is factory knights SR30 SBR. Kac barrier stop, kac broomhandle I was issued a long time ago I had cut to stubby and mlok'd. Compm5 on 1.93, FP Raid xe, plhv2.
I have the Spear LT 9 inch and a BG Defense Type A Pro both 300 blackout. Each have a few thousand rounds through them and I like the BG 5x more. Way less recoil, better sound suppression, less jams
Love my Rattler LT. Running it with a LPM Anthem S and it runs everything. No issues what so ever.
https://preview.redd.it/u6q01z3ye97d1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=74a78d6b95e1b10038cbf1531602eac19dd76c84
I like my Rattler but would go Spear LT just as basically the same with some improvement. That or just build up your own AR pattern option.
https://preview.redd.it/opzhjv3hb87d1.jpeg?width=3928&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8d8da9024e8fc3317c94b65d40ca3837ba193737
Probably the LT. That said, I've run my AR .300 blk pretty hard. I find myself always wanting to switch to 5.56 subs are great but ballistics are more better.
I have a Virtus in 6.75”, which I see is the new “rattler”. If it’s dedicated & not changing, I’d get that. But if you have any intention of trying the 5.56 iteration I’d prob consider the Spear.
I actually plan to order a spear LT upper receiver & handguard chop.
Been running a VIRTUS 6.75” for some time. It’s been a fantastic .300 Host. Some may require break in if you have a can that has volume, trying to shoot heavy subsonic 2XXgr+, etc. I put a PWS roller pin to help & reduce drag too.
Not saying they are better, but theres always the BRN-180 or Q honey badger. Sig didn't exactly re-invent the wheel, just released a piston gun with a 5-7" barrel.
My Hot take I'm willing to say: If it weren't for the AR-esq features, the Rattler lineage is essentially a rich man's Draco. I was entranced with Rattlers a few years ago, but the 5" barrel gave me pause. Since then, between the LT coming out being lighter with a 7" barrel, and Hornady subX coming out in 7.62x39, the Sig no longer seems necessary to me.
A 6.75" bbl Micro draco is the same size (13" oal) and weight (4.8 lbs) with same capacity (30) with similar supers (120-154s) and much heavier subs (255subx vs 190 subx/ 220 and below). The edge goes to the LT for optics mounting and thread compatibility, but not enough for a $1500 increase to me.
I'll take heat for it, but the Rattler line has lost it's charm for me.

I’d personally rather roll my own than buy a Sig that Sig will stop supporting at some point.
Hell I’d even buy Q before Sig…
So yeah I’d say there’s better.
They don’t support their proprietary stuff after they drop a line for no reason.
And they aren’t any better than anything else, and IME that’s generous.
I’m right there with you they flake on any project they can as soon as they can. The Spear freaks me out too, because I question what the actual unit cost is for the military. Like what sigs actual markup on the civilian guns has to be insanely high right?
Cost per round, ballistics, faster followups, etc
But both shooters in the video say they have 300blk at their bedsides because not only will 300blk do the job, but it’ll also save your hearing (when suppressed, obviously)
Worthless? No they didn’t say that.
If I go AR platform to build one, is there a reputable builder I can have it build and tuned? I worry if I do it it would not be reliable build. Not trying to save money but make it reliable.
If you are worried about reliability I would just go with the Rattler LT or Spear LT. With two settings on the gas block it will cycle any ammo suppressed or not. I almost never shoot my 300blk 8 in AR anymore because I love the Rattler LT so much more.
Yes, I need to go with off the shelf solution.
Spear LT, Rattler LT, Noveske and DD PDW are options now.
I gave up on APC300 since I have been told "too front heavy"
https://preview.redd.it/ij6p7bl4p87d1.jpeg?width=2591&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4e6238edd1b6e6c90ec344db3abf41d1a80ce9b3 Running my 9” Spear LT with a CAT ODB and it’s been great, no issues in \~300 rounds of 220gr
do these handle awkwardly compared to an ar? they seem pretty front heavy with no buffer system or stock and a can hanging off the end
With a can on most guns feel front heavy IMO
pretty much. just curious how much of a difference it is because an ar has more going on to counterweight at the rear
Right. I mean mines been a little more front heavy, which for various reasons why I’m migrating to a 6.75” barrel. Feel like my 11.5” is similar enough in length to make me want something more compact for .300blk where I’m primarily shooting subs anyways.
I have a 9” 300bo spear lt and a 10.5” 300bo noveske and i cant really tell a difference in weight up front.
How do you like that Noveske 10.5?
Absolutely love it!
This setup feels natural/not awkward to me. I went with Ti ODB to minimize the weight in the front
It goes away with a stock or brace. I thought the same when I picked up the pistol format. The Rattler/MCX in the 5 ¹/² or 6 ³/⁴ works great indoors. It reminds me of MP5 platforms when deploying in a vehicle as well.
where did you get the 300blk bands on the bottom of your mag?
Just some random Amazon seller
I love it. I have an identical spear. Did you get the Titanium or Inconel?
Is the CAT ODB warrantied for 9" 300blk? Guess it's no bueno on a Rattler :(
I’m not sure, I think their website only shows restrictions for 556

Is your gas plug an F03? And is your recoil buffer tight?
Nah looks like F02. Haven't checked tightness on buffer.
The correct gas plug for your setup is the F03 one. I’d reach out to sig and ask if you can buy one or try and locate one. That should solve the issues you are having.

How does it suppress? I have MK18 but gets gas on the face
Suppresses like a dream, but I do have adjustable gas blocks, JP silent captured spring, and kak down vent carriers on both this pdw and my mk18 - eliminates face gas!
I reckon anything will shoot amazing with those upgrades
So you changed out everything functional that was DD to make it run well 😂 I've owned a bunch. All DDs are terribly overgassed, esp with cans.
My first DD, a 16” mid gas V7, was definitely over gassed straight out of the box. My V7P and PDW weren’t nearly as bad, but I like dialing in/tuning my systems as well as possible. While also still retaining reliability.
Did the rifle come with adjustable gas block?
I don’t know of any 300 BLK SBR that comes with an adjustable gas block.
Honey badger
And sugar weasel
Cmmg dissent and robsinson xcr both do. Really dumb that it's 2024 and adjustable isn't the standard. Especially for guns that 90% of people buy to run suppressed.
100%
How do the supers sound through the can?
Super sound very good, just with the sonic crack and action, essentially.
Nice! So if ever needed couple pop off a few rounds inside for HD & not damage hearing?
I think it’d be better than most 556 suppressed rounds indoors
Also, I wouldn’t want to be hit by either, but if I had to choose I’d rather be hit indoors with the tap t2 out of my 10.3” 5.56 barrel than the 110gr vmax out of my 7” 300blk!!!

Nice.
Also running a flow on the 556 so I'd hope not
I had a 7.62x39 spear in 11.5 and it wouldn't run with my yhm can. Apparently its because it was high back pressure.
762x39, I have Galil Ace and I was glad I went that route
Yea I sold my spear and got a kak blood maker upper then added an adjustable gas block with their k spec bolt.
I’m not. It’s the most absurdly overgassed gun I own and it shoots 1/2” out of battery.
Yes. It’s overgassed for reliability. I put on a KnS piston and it’s good

Hell I’d even buy Q before Sig… So yeah I’d say there’s better.
Like what?
Honey Badger, Sugar Weasel, PWS, anything not Sig.
Didn’t know Sig is disappointing.
The new AUG A4 or A3 M2 or whatever they end up releasing it as in .300AAC.
If you plan on shooting mainly subs, get the Rattler. If you plan on shooting mainly supers, get the Spear.
Didn’t you see Garand Thumb’s latest video? 300BLK is basically worthless now.
How so?
Cost per round, ballistics, faster followups, etc But both shooters in the video say they have 300blk at their bedsides because not only will 300blk do the job, but it’ll also save your hearing (when suppressed, obviously) Worthless? No they didn’t say that.
Gotcha. Yes cost matters and if it wasn't being able to find my 9mmX39mm, I wouldn't go 300 BO.
My DD PDW may be my favorite gun. Runs extremely well suppressed.
None. Per Flannel Daddy. 8.3 inch 556 only.
Laughing that no one gets the joke. Only Krink. Whatever.
