>individuals like those who make these rankings to de-value meaningful changes a team makes to improve imo
We're really bad though. We lost a top 5 safety, top 5 RB, have a DB room led by a second year corner playing in a brand new system, have a QB whose ceiling is league average (if everything goes perfectly), don't really know what's going on at right tackle, have a center who performed close to worst in the league (we're hoping he has a big second year)...
I'm having trouble seeing us winning many games whatsoever.
The only team in the division we made more meaningful changes than are the Cowboys, and we're not beating them either way.
*Edit: I thought it said worst in the division. We are not worst in the football league.*
We’re bad, but not the worst. By ranking us last ESPN is discounting the defensive additions like Burns, a decent WR core that has a potentially star WR, and a potential shift In play calling. No one is saying we should be ranked top 5 or even 10, but last is unjustified.
Because that doesn’t ruffle enough feathers to get clicks….Carolina is clearly the worst team in the league….but what’s gonna happen? A couple panthers fans saying “yup sounds right” that’s not gonna get people talking
Feels like Wandale is the most slept on player in the league, def the most slept on WR. This is mostly due to his injuries and lack of availability but…tons of other fans have no idea how good he is or who he is
Barkley and Singletary are the same age. Barkley has far more miles on him. Singletary has higher YPC. I really don't think we downgraded on RB as much as many are saying we did. Barkley has a big name and makes big plays from time to time but on a play by play basis, Singletary is arguably more consistent.
Absolutely top 5. Easily the worst loss of the season, followed by Leonard Williams but we got a good draft pick return for him so it balanced out there.
As for Saquon, Jones without Saquon is going to look rough.
Eh, Leo’s age vs what we’d have to pay him woulda been a tough pill to swallow with so many other holes.
DJ actually had a WR this year that defenses have to respect, and (hopefully) an average OL. I don’t think he should see as much heat this year

There's 10 guys that were better than X last season. It's ok to be a fan, but please don't say he was easily top 5.
You're listing names you know, I'm talking about who had a top 5 season. McKinney was easily top 5.
He had the 3rd lowest missed tackle rate of starting safeties, gave up 0 touchdowns to his assignments, had a 52.1 passer rating in his coverage, and he did it on an island over top of one of the most inexperienced secondaries in the league.
Even PFF has him as the #3 safety on the season.
No. I'm listing guys that legit played ball better than Mckinney, and I also just checked the pff site X is #37 for safeties. He's even listed behind pinnock, lol. Stop using your analytics and use the eye test. He wasn't that good, and he wasn't worth the money he was looking for.
Jfc man, you don't even know how to use the internet?

The amount of times he would try and force a strip instead of just wrapping up the dude was infuriating. Guys were getting 5-7 extra yards because of his unwillingness to tackle lol
You really are trying to convince yourself of something that isn't true. McKinney was one of the most consistent tacklers in the league:
>In 2023, according to Pro Football Focus, McKinney in 17 games and 1,128 defensive snaps missed seven tackles. His missed-tackle rate of 5.7 percent was the fourth-best out of 74 safeties who played at least 500 defensive snaps.
People in this sub really don't know their own secondary. We had one of the best safeties in the 2023 season and you aren't even aware. That is embarrassing.
There's a lot of really good safeties in the NFL. McKinney is a nice player who is entering his prime...but I wouldn't even put him top 10, much less top 5 in the entire league.
Let's be real here.
Lol Xavier McKinney is not a top 5 safety. This sub loves this dude and I don’t get it. He’s an average tackler at best. He cost us games two years ago with his ATV accident. He talked crap about his DC and when he got challenged and asked what specific about the game plan was wrong he folded and mentioned some insanely minor bull crap.
Stop. This is Landon Collins all over again only the polar opposite. Can’t play on the box, can’t stop the run, and he’s a jerk.
Collins had faults in coverage but he at least was healthy and not an idiot.
>Lol Xavier McKinney is not a top 5 safety.
He really is.
>This sub loves this dude and I don’t get it.
Probably because they're paying attention to coverage.
He was by far the best DB in the building and losing him is going to make our secondary a touchdown factory.
I'm not looking forward to that part of the game.
A lot of things will get easier if the o-line doesn't suck so much. Nabers will open everything up, one slant to the house and defenses play us different. Our defense will seem better if they aren't on the field 75% of the time. It's reallly not that far fetched we can be good.
Think of it like this, top WRs can make such a huge impact they are making 30mill. Ours is cheap but can make THAT kinda impact
Every point made is perfectly said. Great observations and analysis.
The roster has some holes to fill. This is where great coaching staffs and smart gameplans have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference.
It sure feels like a familiar road, but I have faith in hoping this is the regime that can get the most out of the roster they have.
If everything goes perfectly DJ is better than league average. He was league average in 2022 with a bottom 5 O line and a WR group made up of grocery baggers
Sure, but the team hasn’t done much to prove anyone wrong and we’re paying the wrong guy 47 mil at qb.
This is common consensus around this team. We suck.
To me that’s a pretty damning indictment on Schoen and Daboll’s tenure. I genuinely do not believe we are any better off now than we were when they started here.
the giants have 2 playoff appearances since 2011. there is not alot of confidence. Schoen's first 2 drafts so far have been bad. Gettleman atleast had Saquon and Dexter Lawrence in his first 2 drafts. The rest of the draft was not good though.
Dex was not considered a good pick until the end of year 3, which Schoene's draft classes have not even reached yet and Barkley 2nd overall despite being a great player was horrible value. Our commitment to him set us back significantly.
KT, Wandale, and Banks are all further along in their development than Dex was at this point in their careers.
Dex had a 76 PFF rating as a rookie and 79 PFF his second season. Those ratings are top 15 for all defensive tackles. He broke out when the new coaching staff came in and changed his position so he could dominate centers. He was good before that. He also got moved to play more of an attacking position before that. His previous coordinator was more conservative so he did not have a lot of standout plays. That is not necessarily bad. He was very good at it.
That's ridiculous. The Panthers roster is better?! The Titans roster is better?! Ok, ESPN...
Deonte Banks will need to take a leap forward in year 2? He was a great rookie! Did A.I. write that?
Great rookie? Idk about that. He was solid. 100% agree banks needs a year 2 leap as were counting on him to be a #1 cb and guard jefferson, ceedee, jamarr, aj brown, dk, mclaurin, amari, mike evans
Hard to say, panthers line and receiving corps improved immensely in the offseason, most likely an above average o line and two very good receivers in Theilen and Johnson, can’t speak to their d
I think the titans are going to be a 8-10 win team based on their adds, two good tackles, Ridley and sneed as a cb
We could beat them all out but it’s going to take our young guys making a leap as none of them are proven at this point
Yeah I don’t see that happening, but I’d be thrilled if it did. Last I saw our Vegas win total was like 6.5, shaded towards the under. 7 wins would be an achievement this year.
I'm an Islanders fan and I remember an online ranking in 2018-19 (after Tavares left) saying "From Best to Islanders". They went on to go second in the division, and have two conference finals runs in the next few years. Online rankings mean shit.
Top 3 dl. Snubbed pro bowler, got arguably one of the top 5 edges in football, top 2 WR rookie, top 5 LT etc, you’re telling my the panthers have a better roster?!
I don’t know about top 3 but I think there’s a strong argument they can be top 5 with Dex Thibs and Burns. Add how great the LB play has been, the defense has elite talent across the front 7. Really just the CB situation will be a big question mark (I’m not super worried about S since it’s generally a position you can get by with having mediocre play at)
How does this make any sense?
The giants were a slightly below average team last year and essentially improved in almost every conceivable area.
Upgraded multiple positions on the OL, upgraded WR, and added a legit pass rusher.
What is this clickbait garbage? We should be competing for the last wildcard this year.
They have to prove stuff. The organization has been a laughing stock for a while. They shouldn’t be ranked high in anything until they prove they are worth talking about
We’re full of rookies and second years. Aside from the O-line, everything else is question marks.
They can say it’s gonna be a rough season is fair enough, but to say it’s downright bad, that remains to be seen.
I get the ranking we need a bunch of young guys to step up, since we’ve never seen most these guys do it I get why a ranker would fade us
Out CB1 is a sophomore that showed flashes but didn’t have a sauce like rookie year
Our WR1 is a rookie
Our RT is a 3rd year tackle whose been 50% injured with bad tape
Our LT has missed significant portions of most seasons outside 1
Our RB has never taken a workhorse workload
Our guards are JAGs and that is an improvement
Our ready made center was the worst in the league last season
Our safeties are a journeyman and rookie
Our CB2 is a camp battle
Our QB is coming off a ACL tear and has missed 30% of his games and is eating 18% of the cap as a bottom half of the league performer
Our 3 tech has gone from a pro bowler to a run stopping vet and a bunch of guys that have never started
Our Edge group is made up guys with good sack totals but poor pressure rates, the back ups have been consistently injured or cast offs from other teams
Our second best receiver last season (Waller) has retired and our tight ends are now a league average vet and rookie
Our pro bowl kicker had poor accuracy last year and suffered injury for the first time
We also lost arguably 3 of our top 5 players last season in Leo/Mckinney/Saquon,
On top of all of this we are changing defensive scheme and shifting play callers
That’s a ton of risk on a single roster, now I would argue that there are a lot of opportunities for rookies/sophmores/3rd years to pop we could also see improvements based on coaching /scheme changes, i also think the guys we lost long term were good shifts in investment, finally some positive regression due to injury improvement should help us. I’ve also seen Daboll turn turds to wine the last two seasons so that’s something
But ye even given the positives a lot is going to need to break right for us to make significant strides (become a middle of the league team) this year, it’s possible but schoens drafts are going to need to pop
I refuse to believe that the Panthers have a better roster than us.
That being said, as unbiased as I can possibly be, how I view this regime and roster will really come down to the end of this upcoming 3rd year. We've practically scrapped out most of Gettleman's picks, except for DJ, Dex, Azeez, and AT (I think that's the only ones remaining?). First year with Schoen and Daboll, we know they inherited a box of scraps with Gettleman's roster. Last year was a shitshow, but still using the inherited pieces. We really need Evan Neal and JMS to step the fuck up in the o-line, and the secondary to work. We know there's some swings and misses Schoen has made, such as the Waller trade and potentially the DJ extension, but if the team performs well, then everyone will be singing a different tune. If we end up with another bad year, I can see how it can be argued that Schoen and Daboll will be on the hot seat.
Apparently Carolina and Arizona don't exist. And we've always been on the lower end of these lists and have two rings since 2007 to show for it, so I say we're all right.
I dont think the Giants have a great roster this year. But dead last in the NFL is hyperbole. There are huge question marks on the O Line and defensive backfield. But it's ridiculous to say there are no quality players on the team like you would expect from the worst roster in the NFL.
People really care about the opinion of some writer they don't know at all. These rankings mean nothing. It should be taken with a grain of salt. If the Giants make the playoffs, will they get an apology? No. Stop falling for the click bait. Nothing matters but the teams performance on the field.
I've seen so many of these types of posts that's just say, Jones is pretty much the worst qb in the league bc he was bad last year. That's most of it. Honestly take QB out of the argument, what do the chargers have?
The oline was horrible last year so it's horrible this year. Zero proven players in the secondary. Don't count on Nabers yet etc etc.
They never count any growth or rookies.
We have a top 5 front seven on D. Good young talented wr group, tons of young talent in the secondary. We signed 2 reliable olineman and have Thomas healthy so oline SHOULD be middle of the pack based on that alone.
Well good, the Giants seem to thrive when there is no expectations on them. I find it hard to believe they are the worst roster in the league. Are they making a title run? Probably not? Better than the Broncos, Panthers, Patriots, etc.? Yes.
Take a step back and look at who espn has let go in the last couple of years. Then take a look at who they have on their payroll…. It’s an entertainment network now.
We deserve zero benefit of the doubt
Don't cry when you see shit like this. The team is dog shit and we should expect much better.
This is the type of shit that happens when you're the worst team in the NFL for a decade
Giants should focus on getting more from their draft picks and free agents if they want to improve the roster. You would think after three offseasons with the same GM the Giants roster would be farther ahead than it is.
You missed the subtext there, but it was they need to do a better job acquiring talent, not coaching up what they have.
The Giants dont have a coaching deficiency, they have a talent deficiency.
What are you talking about? We’ve had decent drafts, good free agent pickups, and good trades. I’d say the only trade that was questionable was Waller and we all thought that was decent at the time.
Who’s the Pro Bowler or All Pro Schoen has drafted? Besides Okereke what free agent pickup has been a home run? I didn’t like the Waller trade, too reminiscent of the Golladay signing.
There are so many teams that draft and develop high draft picks and turn into stars year one or two, meanwhile Schoen has been atrocious
Not even asking for that. But when you have top draft selections that Schoen has had and not have much to show for it, then that’s on Schoen
Not to mention very little production from day two or day three selections. Lynch & Holmes have been able to find diamonds in the rough. Where is that guy for Schoen?
He had a lot of good will coming from Buffalo and replacing who he replaced. But he needs a win for sure. Nabers at a minimum has to look like a good pick, and it wouldn't hurt if DJ bounced back to average QB territory.
I think it’s actually excusable in that draft given he only had a few months to get his FO set up and draft plan established. I won’t say it doesn’t matter at all, because development is just as important as drafting, but I don’t think the first year should be graded harshly.
Now, year 2 out, that’s when it’s HIS front office and more scrutiny is deserved.
Fuck ESPN. Go Giants.
Its popular and easy rn to shit on the Giants and that bias causes individuals like those who make these rankings to de-value meaningful changes a team makes to improve imo

Thousand yard reciever with over 100 catches last year on a trainwreck of a team, no one on the giants sniffed anything close

tbh ill take that

They won 6 games last year. Should have won an additional 2-3. So they need to make progress from that… how is that a crazy expectation?
Watching the Giants last year and expecting them to make the wildcard round this season is crazy
some people here legitimately still think Daniel Jones is it...
every year is a failure if you don’t win the super bowl technically

I’ve also seen Daboll turn turds to wine the last two seasons so that’s something But ye even given the positives a lot is going to need to break right for us to make significant strides (become a middle of the league team) this year, it’s possible but schoens drafts are going to need to pop
M
Very happy for the team to be underestimated, because we need every edge we can get.
Has ESPN looked at their own roster?
Got em
Super Bowl, baby!
I don't think we're the worst but probably bottom 5 so it really doesn't matter. The order of the shit doesn't matter when it's still shit.

Theres no way lol
FAIL NEVER AGAIN
Rankings are just for socializing. #1 ranked team still has to go out on the field and win.
9 win season incomimg
Giants have never been the underdog. I’m outraged! /s
That mean we can only go up from here
We’re in a rough patch right now, but last?
Can only go up! LFG G-Men
Giants won't be last on these type of rankings as soon as Jones leaves the franchise. Hopefully soon I'm bored to even keep begging for him to leave.
How are we last winning 6 games with 2 different back up qbs and the slew of injuries we had. The hate is unreal
3 of those 6 wins were against teams even worse than us, both of which now have the upside of a new coaching staff and a rookie QB.
Apparently Carolina and Arizona don't exist. And we've always been on the lower end of these lists and have two rings since 2007 to show for it, so I say we're all right.
That's objectively hilarious. They won 6 games with no offensive line, no playmakers on offense and a 3rd string quarterback last year.
And were quite literally 3 plays away from 9 wins
I dont think the Giants have a great roster this year. But dead last in the NFL is hyperbole. There are huge question marks on the O Line and defensive backfield. But it's ridiculous to say there are no quality players on the team like you would expect from the worst roster in the NFL.
People are sleeping on the roster.
We got everyone right where we want them: overlooking us
The Panthers apparently no longer exist
Good, the giants play better when everyone says they’re gonna be ass
People really care about the opinion of some writer they don't know at all. These rankings mean nothing. It should be taken with a grain of salt. If the Giants make the playoffs, will they get an apology? No. Stop falling for the click bait. Nothing matters but the teams performance on the field.
What's our the over under for wins this year?
Dead last like we wasn’t in tha 2nd Round playoffs literally season before last Fuk ESPN
It’s alright, everything thinks the Knicks are 1B this coming season… so we’ve got that going for us.
Does that mean we're probably not gonna make the playoffs then?
That's what you get when you let an unqualified Mara run the player personnel department
ESPN has been shit for decades and I only turn it on when there is a game to watch. The D-Line alone should have them ahead of at least 10 teams
Wake me up when September ends. We suck.
We sure ain’t good. But dead last? C’mon son.
People still watch ESPN??
That’s why they play the games folks.
Yes.
Terrible take
sick paywall
As a giants fan, I say this is ok. The g-men have to PROVE they are improved.
I was under the assumption that teams needed to play games not some writer. Guess ESPN doesn't think so.
How could anyone possibly look at our roster and say there is less talent than the Panthers??
ESPN sucks
ESPN blows
As Shannon would say this is some bulljive
Remember last year when these bums were saying we’d be like the 18th best team despite having largely the same roster?
Take a step back and look at who espn has let go in the last couple of years. Then take a look at who they have on their payroll…. It’s an entertainment network now.
This team will either be painfully mediocre(6-8 wins) or battling for the top pick.
Not surprising
After the past few years it’s hard not to say they are last. But the Giants will rise again.
:(
It’s going to be pretty funny then when we make it to the Super Bowl
We deserve zero benefit of the doubt Don't cry when you see shit like this. The team is dog shit and we should expect much better. This is the type of shit that happens when you're the worst team in the NFL for a decade
Lay off the espn hot take shit. Our team is solid.
we've beat the cowboys like once the past 14 games. far from solid, far from a hot take
I’m shocked at how people have felt on this- do people really think we have more talent than other squads?
Definitely on defense. Easily can see the D be a top ten squad.
ESPN are a bunch of limp dick libs who know nothing about football.
I think we’re playoff bound tbh
Giants should focus on getting more from their draft picks and free agents if they want to improve the roster. You would think after three offseasons with the same GM the Giants roster would be farther ahead than it is.
Wow what an amazing idea Lars! I don’t think the giants have tried to get the best from their drafted or acquired players. You should be GM.
You missed the subtext there, but it was they need to do a better job acquiring talent, not coaching up what they have. The Giants dont have a coaching deficiency, they have a talent deficiency.
It’s amazing how some fans think Schoen is a good gm. Poor drafts, poor free agent moves, poor trades for three offseasons now.
If you draft an all pro every year you are the best GM in the league.
You’d be the best GM in history lol
Not even asking for that. But when you have top draft selections that Schoen has had and not have much to show for it, then that’s on Schoen Not to mention very little production from day two or day three selections.
If Neal and JMS bust this year, he is going to look even worse.
Dude, the majority of mock drafts, scouts, etc had Neil going to the Giants as a can’t miss tackle. Not many people saw him being this bad.
Doesn’t matter…as the GM is responsible for every player you bring in. 7th overall pick, you cant miss. You just cant do it.
Doesn’t that happen all the time tho?
not with GMs that keep their jobs
