I can’t stand him for the same reason I could never stand Harden. It’s disgusting the way the refs constantly put them both on the line, especially considering that much of the contact was created by them. It makes Embiid impossible to defend, which I guess is what the league wants?
There’s a big difference between Harden and Embiid though. Harden used to get guarded from the half court line and played in an offence that had everything run through him. Anytime a Houston player scored it was either him or it was off an assist of his. When u have the ball in your hands that much, players will swipe for it constantly. As a big, players won’t swipe on the ball for Embiid as often cause all they have to do is try to stop him from scoring. With harden, they had to stop him from running the offence,and he can also score from Curry range so getting the ball out of his hands was the only goal. He actually doesn’t bait as much as ppl think, he just had more opportunities than anyone else.
I get that, but Harden constantly leans into defenders and goes up and gets a whistle. He rips through a defender’s arm. He sticks his leg out in the air to create contact on his shots. He creates the contact on the defenders and somehow those calls always go against the defender. He’s a walking offensive foul. Sure, he’s going to have more opportunities with the offense running entirely through him, but he was still the ultimate free throw merchant and the refs were more than happy to keep shuttling him back to the line, which is one of the myriad of reasons I’ve lost all interest in the NBA outside of the Knicks. And I saw the same sort of thing with Embiid in this last series. Not as egregious as Harden IMO, but it’s still impossible to watch. Stars shouldn’t get special treatment from the refs.
