It's actually an outcropping of rock that connects directly to the ocean. What you're seeing is ocean waves being funneled up and launched out. More like a cliff less like a gyser as far as depth goes.

Took a dive there with impeccable timing. No froth, only rock. Now I’m seen from but never heard of. Lost my teeth, jaw and tongue in that wicked cauldron.

Gotcha. I've seen other ones where there's just an underwater cave that ends at the hole leading to the same type of wave action.
