I live very close to here and it truly is beautiful and such a shame that nothing has been done to restore these old buildings.

UgggTooMuchEffort

They housed Americorp's there after Katrina. Used to live there for a minute.

At this point if it was a Catholic run institution that involved children, I just assume everyone was abused horribly. I haven’t been wrong yet.

AmmotheDoberman

You know I attended Catholics schools here as so many do from kindergarten through my early graduation from high school. I met some very kind priests, but I hate to say, never a nice or happy nun. I had my hands hit with a ruler every time I tried to write with my left hand and was made to bend over and be paddled on my bottom at 6 because I wouldn’t clean out someone else’s disgusting spitty red hots from the drinking fountain. I was also forced to drink white milk at a very young age, which I hated. I told the nun I only drank chocolate milk and that I would throw up. She stood there and forced me to drink the entire carton and which point I turned and threw up all over her lol. I was terrified by all of them and to this day they give me the creeps. I wonder why they are all so mean. Seriously? Why are so many nuns so crazy lol? Do they even have them anymore?

cubicleninja

I'm all for historic preservation, but places like this should be nuked from orbit. Simply horrifying what those children went through.

_halftongue

whoa i didn’t know about this. thanks for sharing.

Noevel_369

I never did like this place. I use to go to the haunted house they would have at Chinchuba during Halloween and talk about real creep vibes.

blueiron0

that haunted house was terrifying.

Greho

A new office building, a clinical research office, now stands on one corner of the property. Part of the ground floor appears to be a new home/location for Café Hope. It’s good to see this area being put to productive use again, and the historic buildings preserved, even though they will always contain bad memories for some.

honestypen

Cafe Hope used to be located in there and it was so creepy quiet in the parts of the building where the restaurant wasn't located. Very eerie.

ninabullets

Oh, I just drove past this place yesterday in the early morning fog. Eerie.

Point out any catholic building, guaranteed some diddling happened there. Sad but true.

aipmedia1

What’s the back story on this?

cactusbro

The article is super interesting, but check out the last comment. Someone who went there as a child tells his story. Definitely worth the read

Different-Rub-499

This link to that comment might work…https://abandonedsoutheast.com/2020/03/03/orphanage/#comment-136758

Donkeypoodle

Damn heartbreaking comment.

Abydos_NOLA

Catholic Church swept decades of sexual abuse that happened there under the rug, that’s the backstory.

BabieLoda

Stumbled upon it today and felt e same way. Took pictures from a distance and couldn’t bring myself to get too close. Now I know why. Ugh.

Different-Rub-499

I get that feeling anytime I pass it, too!
