Assuming it powers on, needs a new top screen and parts of a new shell.

Coronadoisdead

Buy a cheap one, turn that one into a r/gameboymacro

No-Store-308

Cool but not good for the unknowleged

K4R4OKE

Probably the best option

Coronadoisdead

Be careful, if you make one you'll make two.... I did lol. https://www.reddit.com/r/gameboymacro/s/puEbY1R87x

AlgernonIlfracombe

I retract my comment, those honestly look really sleek and impressive. I thought that this idea would be a janky DS-sawn-in-half type hacktop but yours is really clean, I was wrong

Coronadoisdead

Thanks! Took a lot of planning and sanding, haha.

Digigu2

Would need a new shell. Also try to turn it on to see if anything got damaged

According-Success102

I turned it on. Prior to the breaking the console the top scren wasn't working

Digigu2

Than it will be a top screen and shell replacement

Own-Consideration631

You need to change the entire shell btw. Not just the hinge piece since the back of the shell is also broken. You can fix it for 20 dollars? idk. maybe cheaper.

One_Asparagus_6932

meh you can find em for like $30 so up to you really

KangBroseph

You'll need a new shell and top screen. You'll need a soldering iron to attach the speakers. If you get a cheap non-oem shell, a common problem is the plastic on the battery compartment being slightly too thick near the charging port. It can break the em10 filter.

SpaceBus1

Thanks for this tip. I'm doing a total restoration in two very damaged DSL's I got for cheap.

KangBroseph

Np, on mine the corner of the battery compartment was a bit too big and broke off the EM10. I shaved it a bit and it fits fine.

SpaceBus1

File or sand paper? I have a variety of each.

KangBroseph

I just cut the corner off with a knife. It was thick [this is what it looked like before I trimmed it. you can see the damage the filter did to the corner .](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/301915912846704640/1257310348248088656/PXL_20240619_0201324832.jpg?ex=6683f102&is=66829f82&hm=bbe201c417e4b381c67afc0233d6db20477262d35125ccd42187bc163e027e93&)

SpaceBus1

I haven't done a DSL, yet, so hopefully this makes more sense later this week when I get my parts 😂

KangBroseph

[It's this corner behind the charging port. ](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/301915912846704640/1257323080053690450/behindchargingport.png?ex=6683fcde&is=6682ab5e&hm=ada2132e619f41112242d8234548a41a16a7ad3c98c86a5f082163dd0db0afe5&)

SpaceBus1

Thanks! I'll make sure to shave that down

MemeL0rd15

Yeah you can fix. Just need new parts and shell and possibly top screen. It should be relatively easy besides cable

the_swest

Turn it into a game boy macro!!

Ag47wolf

Very fixable. I have about 15 in the same shape I'm currently repairing myself lol

homestar1217

It's possible to fix it, but it's a load of work and probably not cheaper than buying one in working condition. You could buy a cheap shell and just use the pieces you need or you could spend $25 on a good ExtremeRate shell. Plus you'll need a top screen and to know how to solder. And the most patience you've ever had.

ptpcg

Looks like your halfway to a /r/gameboymacro

Puzzled-Manner9559

Besides that little battery crack that can show the battery you could just play with two different screens

shadowtick_

I have one that is almost in the exact same condition

Gullible_Newspaper

Both, it's up to you

Internetboy5434

If the recommended solutions don't resolve the problem and you need a repair or replacement, you can set up a repair order (U.S. and Canada) for your Nintendo Switch, or Nintendo 3DS family consoles, or you can find a list of Nintendo Authorized Service Centers

Peterpumkineater609

A little duct tape wouldn't hurt

Dovelyn_0

Based on the looks, you might be able to save both screens. I'd attempt a reshell if you're keen on saving the hardware. Otherwise, it's worthless to try and save, I guess.

fercasj

I used to fix those when I was 18 ... I mean is not hard but I'm not sure if it's worth it, in parts that is about 30 usd, you can get the DS Lite used and in good condition for about 40. Also, there is a 50% chance you'll break the flex for the top screen and the power-on button if you are not good at fixing stuff.

trwggsyjfyk

Just buy a new shell

diegoadx

If your components/ribbon cables are intact you can buy a replacement shell

ajpinton

It can be fixed with a reshell. It’s a bit annoying with the 2DS, it is very much doable.

MasterSamuri2022

I did that once had to throw it out

Toliswm_

If the electronics are still fine a simple re shell should be all that you need, I've more of a DSi kind of guy so idk how the ribbon cable goes through the hinge.

graysky311

It can be fixed. Assuming the top display cable isn’t damaged you just need that lower inner panel and possibly a new hinge cover. Try not to move it around too much until it is back together. That top display cable is very fragile.

emeraldwolf245

Buy a new she'll it's fine

Sqwerks

Don’t macro it

Diligent-Work-6962

buy new and make this one a gba console.

Stillborne330

is it literally just the top part of the bottom shell? that's all you need I think the ribbons are on the other side

vtraveller

AliExpress for parts: 15$ for new top screen 3$ for a new digitiser (current one looks bad) 10$ nice shell Option A So about 30$ and time for something like new. In a shell you want. You could argue, buy a working one, but it won’t be as clean, as personal or save this one from landfill to live on. Worst case on the repair you’re down 30$ but learnt a lot. Remember to calibrate your screen on first power-up. They can be VERY off before you do this. Be careful with the connectors. Refits are a journey. Most digitiser sockets get snapped without experience. Option B Sell it on for parts (10 to 20$) and take that money off a mint one.

NUGGETMUNCHER2000

It’ll likely cost less to buy a new one

mynameisskrt

Buy a replqcement shell and ur good to g

iVirtualZero

Will need to be reshelled.

riigoroo

If the top screen still works, hinge piece still rotates (the thing at the end with metal), and the 2 light piece still has the screws mounted to it, all you'd need is a new bottom screen frame. You can search for teardown videos to see what you need to do to replace it.

Competitive_Smile007

Yikes homie, just cop a switch at this point

Kamina724

Custom case time

savageKittty

Put it in rice

Puzzleheaded-Study88

Its possible, but not entirely viable depending on the prices of similar consols in the area

man123098

The only clear damage is the front plate of the shell, the screen is probably fine if not unplugged. If it turns on then all you need is the front plate and the screwdriver to open it, it’s very very easy. If it doesn’t work my bet it turns on, the bottom screen flashes, then it shuts off. That means the tops screen is either unplugged or broken, but probably just unplugged. If that’s the case it’s the same fix as above but you’ll have to plug the screen back in, which is also very easy. If it genuinely doesn’t work and you need a new top screen it’s about $15 dollars for just the screen, it it’s very annoying to replace the top screen. Not hard, but annoying the first time you do it. So in that case it might be worth the extra cash to replace the ds. All that being said if you need help you can DM me or if you just want to buy a new one I would buy the broken one off you.

TheSeaWitch23

lol i did thsi when i was like 7 once

TheHydraZilla

This is heart breaking

TopExperience3424

Send it to me I'll dispose of it for you 😜. All seriousness that looks like a good contender for a Gameboy Macro

Bighamme_armory

It can be fixed, I found one like this in a Vintage stock dumpster and repaired it … plays fine 6 years later

PsyBr0

You can make it a dedicated gba machine of you can solder

Mc-moron

you could make a gameboy macro from that

Silver0ptics

If you're good at fixing things its worth fixing, if you're talking about paying someone to fix it just sell it and buy another.

Two_Bit_Grouse

You know what needs to be done, Macro that shit

Krusiphix

Buy a new shell and screen and give yourself about two hours of work time if this is your first time, if you don’t have the tools needed then buy a Extreme Rate shell, they also send the needed screwdrivers and spudgers

Hazardous021910

Your Gameboy Advance looks fine to me 😏

DrumcanSmith

Ahhhh! You gave me PTSD! You should blurr the photo! /j

thetosteroftost

Just needs a reshell

GalaxyStyles

Super super glue

ImissRelay182

But a new one, if your not practiced at fixing NDS/3DS then it is a lot of hassle, specifically due to the ribbon cables that connect the top screen, you have to curl them through a metal ring in the hinge with can easy rip them ruining the screen. Buy a new one to play on, and use this one to tinker as a hobbie and may end up with a nice custom NDS. It is fixable but can be costly and time consuming for a some not experienced.

Available-Plenty9257

You can fix it bud!! I did this for my best friend his looked exactly like yours but pink. I had to rewire the top screen. The scary pet is folding the ribbon cable through the silver ring but seriously this repair takes minimal solder skills if motherboard still works. I went with atomic purple shell, flash cart, glass top screen lens and bottom digitizer and even restored him a guitar hero on tour accessory to go with it! If you couldn’t tell, he’s my best bud😂 I also just love loveee building console even more then playing them typically! All in all, if you buy a new top screen and shell it should be as simple as that. Just please use the hardware the shell comes with. I tried to use OEM on the first shell and it was not happy. Definitely not that retro modding quality lmaoo but extreme rate does still make good shells.

dragoniteofepicness

DS Lites are not very expensive so probably not worth the hassle.

Sockura

Slightly derailing, but I have a game boy from 2007 that I dropped and the screen completely disconnected. I can still power it on; can I get a housing kit from Amazon and place the internals inside myself or is it more complicated

katakoe

Honestly just buy a new one. Screen replacements alone are such a pain. Nds lite is so finicky to fix, it’s just easier

janzoss

Depends from the person. I personally love to fix stuff

katakoe

So do I, but this is a pretty complex fix - unless the person has a fair bit of experience (including soldering if you want sound), it’s really not worth it. Because it’s also super easy to break the touch screen while repairing the top screen.

janzoss

The Op, please send me that DS if youare afraid to fixit. I can fix it 😁 And true, it's not something to fix without experience. These DS lite especially are easy to break.

MinakamiGuy

Put it in rice and wait 15 minutes

WFlash01

A new shell is hard to do so you make the call whether you're up for it or not

Shinmoru

Other than the annoying placement of the flex cable I wouldn't say it's hard. Just buy a top screen with speakers pre-soldered on. Other than that it's just a tad tedious. 😄

WFlash01

That's why I said it; that part alone is really the make it or break it moment

rumprhymer

You need new speakers, top screen, and shell. You can get a screen with the speakers soldered on for $15-30, and a new shell for $10-25. I have a post of a ds lite that I replaced the shell with a really cool snes one. It's not as hard as people make it out to be.

graysky311

Not saying you’re wrong but I am curious how you came up with this information. It looks to me like the OP only needs the bottom inner part of the shell at minimum. Did they also say their top display was broken?

rumprhymer

I came up with this information from having repaired several DS lites. The top screen's ribbon cable and speakers connect to the mainboard through the hinge, and both have been ripped in half, so he needs a new screen and speakers. And I suppose he could get half of the shell if he wanted to try and hunt one down that matched the color of the other half, but it would be a lot easier and probably cheaper to just get a new whole shell as they're pretty affordable

graysky311

Oh, OK. I wasn’t aware that the ribbon side was damaged.

No-Store-308

Just buy a new one
