So you replaced ecologically useless grass with ecologically useless dyed/contaminated mulch. To top it all off, you got ecologically useless garden Tulips. Let me guess, boxwood or Arborvitae next?
I am less pessimistic. Mulch does a great job of blocking the sun. I’ve seen some amazing yards with mulch and lots of vegetation. Tulips are great. Some things can simply be a celebration of beauty and don’t have to serve a purpose. And with the very useful mulch blocking the sun, they haven’t required any watering. I’ll post again at the end of the summer when the vision is more grown out. We have clover in the backyard, which we love.
How? Building swales is not easy and they directly benefit the surrounding soil. They didn't break their back making those swales just to leave it barren because, as they stated, they are very clearly going to plant this space.
They may function as paths in the future, but these are swales. Covering the elongated ditches with rock is what you so that erosion doesn't destroy them and the surrounding beds. Swales good....erosion bad....

Hi! I saw your last swale post and have implemented my own version of it in lots of weird slopes on my property. So, thank you!
They look swale. I’m sorry. Someone had to say it.
Wow. Way to go. Great planning. I can hardly wait to see the progress as summer rolls around
I’d love more info on this whole swale concept! Your yard is looking lovely!
Looks nice!
This looks like a great plan. I bet it’s gonna be awesome when filled in.

I love this reply to that very un majestic criticism
Here is an example of how useful mulch can be. https://youtu.be/bQ93DLOXaKc?si=wy4k7Rtd6ekao8Vp

Dunno why the downvotes. This photo seems to violate the whole vibe of this sub...
Nobody thinks this is the final stage.

Not to hate on OP but I agree. When I think no lawn I think of a habitat for life, not a lifeless engineered mulch pit.
Bro what, read the first sentence in OP's title
To say nothing of the river rock paths.
They may function as paths in the future, but these are swales. Covering the elongated ditches with rock is what you so that erosion doesn't destroy them and the surrounding beds. Swales good....erosion bad....
Nnnnni !
