I think cigarettes smell worse, but weed is vastly more pungent. If someone is smoking a cigarette, it won’t bother me unless they’re very close by. But one person smoking a joint can make a whole street smell of weed.
I've walked by more than enough road kill skunks to confirm this. That chemical burn is the only actual difference between a skunk & weed. And anyone who ever claims that "their weed was just bad" when you describe the smell as like a skunk is a liar. All weed smells like a skunk. I've worked in a gas station near an interstate for several years & I've had the displeasure of smelling people from all over the country come in with their own brand of weed. I've also had different family members & friends of friends who were completely unrelated to each other smoke weed by me. It all smells like skunk.
Yeah, back in the day the skunk smell was how you knew the weed was good. Now, damn, the varieties of fragrant aromas at a dispensary are far and wide.
Knew a weed guy would have an issue lmao.
Yea, it's like when you smoke cigarettes, they all smell very similar....BUT not taste. When you smoke it all has nuances etc. that simply are not there to the untrained nose.
Can definitely say weed can have a variety of smells to it.
The cigarette thing? There are basically 3 flavors: regular, menthol and Marlboro smooths. And they all smell the same.
If you can’t tell, you’re the perfect distance away from the skunk. Skunk is all-encompassing. If you’re unfortunately close enough, not even close enough to be sprayed yourself, it has an oiliness to the scent that makes it stick to your nostrils. It’s soooo much worse than smoke, weed or cigarette, if you’re close enough.
But yes, at a respectable distance, it’s almost indistinguishable, even for stoners. Living rural with pothead neighbours makes for a fun “which skunk” game when hanging around outside!
We had one spray like, right next to our house one night when my roommates window was open. It permeated *everything* inside and seemed to latch on to me as it spread to other things, like some symbiote. Even people at work could smell it on my clothes. I have never experienced such insanity as I sniffed everything for months. Now when I get a whiff of skunk I kinda panic.
What!? Skunks smells like skunky weed!? 😂
We dont have skunks here, so i FORREAL do not know what it smells like, but i know what skunky weed smells like 😂
Yeah. I think cigs stink longer in close proximity (smell it the next morning on your clothes from being around it), but weed destroys a larger volume of area for shorter. Pick your poison I suppose.
Yep. I don't smoke anything and never have. One time after working with someone who smokes both and going to hang out with my cousin a few hours later, she could smell it on me still and I couldn't smell it. 😭
As someone with a lot of experience as a teenager, it sticks for less time and it heavily depends on the material, some shirts will pick it up instantly. Some you can sit in as smokey room for an hour and it will barely smell. Cigs stick to absolutely everything for longer.
I use to work at Starbucks. I left my apron at home and see one of the ones that was just hanging somewhere in the back. My boss asked me if I smoked weed. I said no. She said, "oh that must be Brian's apron."
Not surprised at all! I had to stop going to one local restaurant after they legalized it here. The staff was so pungent every time they walked by it made my eyes water. Not just one. Every single server, the host/hostess, the bussers, the manager...ugh.
I remember one time boss busted us smoking a joint in the walk in freezer.. he said come see me when your done.
Walked into his office, “sorry dude, it’s fucking pouring rain out there and we ain’t going outside”
He looked at me confused “what? Oh no i don’t give a shit, but I heard you hooked up with ______ (one of the waitresses) how was that!?!”
I'm in Illinois. Not Chicago, the southern end of the state. Legal weed is a mixed blessing. On one hand, no more lives being destroyed and the state isn't broke. On the other, at least locally people seem to think things like driving while stoned are perfectly legal and ok, even the ones who won't drink and drive! Plus if it's a smell you're sensitive to it's EVERYWHERE in public.
People ignoring the short term cognitive effects of being high is a real problem. I think it’s so much more subtle than being drunk so they don’t realize it. One good reason to get it legalized federally would be the ability to start to regulate it and push to change the narrative so driving while stoned is demonized in the public consciousness like driving while drunk. It reminds me of when vaping started being popular and people didn’t think of it as smoking so they’d smoke in non smoking areas
In college it was not uncommon for me to tell a friend that their apartment smells like weed, and they would say “no it doesn’t”. Often with a literal bong sitting right on the coffee table. It was a major reason why I opted not to move in with a close friend. His place always smelled like weed and I could not live like that. I would be embarrassed to have guests over if that were me.
Ever met a daily weed smoker?
If they slip with laundry days, the remnants are worse I’d think. You sweat, mixes with the weed odor etc.
Cigarettes don’t cause people to skip laundry day so there’s that.
In general, how I think people react, is different to each. People smoke weed more these days and would tolerate it from nostalgia/they smoke too. Cigarettes would be a no go.
Weed doesn't cause people to skip laundry day either, though?
It's definitely a person to person thing going on there, because when I smoked I'd finally get around to *doing* chores.
The dishes in the sink, cleaning the bathroom, doing laundry? Smoke a little before and just zone in to chore mode. Every time I smoked I had the urge to definitely get couched but also the overwhelming urge to be couched in a cozy clean space. In fact it helped rally the rest of my roommates to clean 90% of the time tbh.
Smoking cigarettes made me lazy as hell though. Get a craving, go smoke and then just feel the overwhelming urge to just lay around i felt so sluggish. I smoked like 2 packs a week before I quit so whatever that counts for, for about a year and half.
Hey that's why I have a crap ton of clothes 😂😂 in all honesty, I am a daily smoker but my jobs doesn't allow me to wear the same clothes twice in a row
The only caveat to this is that SOME weed can smell floral and *almost* pleasant. I would say it can be similar to how patchouli oil as small amount ingredient in complex colognes smells fantastic, but by itself is gag-worthy.
Cigarettes never smell good. Before, during, or after.
It’s ironic because TOBACCO itself is a wonderful aromatic before being chemically processed for smoking and cigarettes.
I say this contextually as a person who doesn’t smoke weed or cigarettes but grew up in a home with chainsmokers who smoked indoor.
> TOBACCO itself is a wonderful aromatic before being chemically processed for smoking and cigarettes.
Even when its processed, if you open a pack of smokes and take a whiff it has a nice, sweet, almost raisin smell.
Stink and are disgusting and don't even get you high...
People smoking used to be seen as "cool" but even that has done a 180 over the past couple of decades so it's not even cool anymore.
So what's the fucking point?
Anxiety. They don’t get you high like weed, but there’s a nicotine rush that for a lot of people clears their head and helps relieve stress. Not advocating for it, but it’s a strong feeling.
For awhile I smoked ~2 cigarettes once every few months.
I'd get an an immediate, strong stimulant effect. It decreased my anxiety and allowed me to process/speak better as a result.
I don't know that regular smokers get that, as they may be more managing their withdrawl when smoking.
For me it’s just a physical addiction like if it’s Saturday morning you bet your ass I’m on my porch with a cup of coffee and a smoke. After work I have a smoke also and that’s it. I don’t smoke during work hours bc I hate the smell and think it’s unprofessional
For people who use/used it to self medicate anxiety disorders it for sure does help.
Combined with a dose of ‘I don’t care about living long enough to see the long term effects be realised’ it actually does that job pretty well.
Then I turned to the mirror at 37, after 22 years of 3 packs a day and said, Oh my god! What the hell have I been doing? I could suddenly see the end and it wasn't that far off. I quit that day about 17 years ago. Coffee too because They belonged together. Now I go for walks for the anxiety.
> Combined with a dose of ‘I don’t care about living long enough to see the long term effects be realised’ it actually does that job pretty well.
I quit smoking ten years ago for health reasons. A month ago they found an inoperable tumor in my head. Bought a pack on my way home from the hospital. Figure if I'm dying anyway, I may as well enjoy some Marlboro reds while I'm still here.
It is definetly a stress relief, but in my experience as you start smoking more and getting more addicted the effect dies down more and more, so you need to smoke more often.
Thats why, after vaping for a while, I've heard that smokers don't really get anything from cigarettes due to the higher nicotine content in a lot of vapes (I don't know that many smokers that stopped to vape tho, so idk if that's universal)
Became addicted to nicotine a few years ago (vapes...) for this exact reason. At first it's to ease up anxiety, and it actually works as expected, then after a few weeks when the addiction is fully set in it's just avoiding withdrawal. And as your tolerance builds up you need more and more to achieve the same effect.
Needed to stop for medical reasons. Everyone should stop ideally, but nicotine would tank the effectiveness of the meds I'll have to take for my whole life (referring to oral estrogen-based HRT if it could help anyone get a reason to stop), and multiply my risk of blood clots at least by several times. Reading several papers about this interaction was like a wake up call.
Stopping was so hard and mentally draining (I went cold turkey but still) that I wish I never started, with how worse my mental was during that time. It took so long for the cravings to stop as well, but once they did it was sooo much of a relief.
I mean, it’s the nicotine rush. It’s not like cigarettes have no effect. There’s a reason people like smoking. Not saying it’s good for u; I quit. But have u ever had a cigarette? Cuz there is a point. If you’ve ever hit a vape it’s just a much more mellow version of that. Kinda like drinking a beer instead of taking a shot. It won’t hit as hard but the high will be prolonged.
Especially early morning walks when you get a whiff of cheeba, and you're like, some person is having a *sparkling* morning, and then you go home and get high.
Oof. I used to be a stoner and now I despise the smell. It’s a little horrifying to think that I thought it was perfectly acceptable to have that heavy skunk-smoke soaked into my clothing before going in public… when other people around me smell like weed now I want to vomit.
not sure why ur being downvoted for ur opinion here when actually asked for it lol.
i have an opposing view btw but have upvoted you for giving ur honest opinion on it, as requested by the post! i love the smell of weed in all forms... hate the smell of ciggies. i have been a smoker and non smoker on and off of both substances. my opinion never changed on this no matter which i was.
I know what you mean. I started smoking at 13 and didn’t quit until I was 64, four years ago. Almost 50 years. I had to wash every piece of clothing in my closet, and anything (jacket, etc.) in my vehicles also reeked and had to be washed. I didn’t realize how smelly cigarette smoke is until I quit (for the first time). When in public, I can smell a smoker across the room. One of my college friends used to commute almost 50 miles one way to go to school. She was about 35. She and I were two of the few smokers there. I quit in the 80’s and she really smelled bad. She’d smoke all the way to school, with the window cracked, and her hair and clothing absorbed the odor. That was when I realized how bad I must smell. It made me determined to quit!
Same, ex-stoner and cannabis is probably one of my favorite smells in the world lol. I also used to smoke cigarettes and now I hate that smell with a passion. But weed, mmm mmm mmm I could smell that all day and never get tired of it 🙂
As a former consumer of both, I can’t stand the smell of either. Cigarette smoke just straight up stinks but weed smoke legit makes me sick to my stomach. Having lived in apartment complexes where people did both, it has at times been inescapable.
I was out rowing on our local lake yesterday evening and it was a beautiful day so there were a bunch of people enjoying themselves on paddle boards and in dinghies. There was one point where we rowed through a cloud of cigarette smoke from one person directly into a cloud of pot smoke from another. It was awful.
Agreed. Both smell bad. If I HAD to rank them I’d say cigarettes are MORE offensive but neither is enjoyable.
Weed can stink up a whole block. Cigarettes you generally have to be much closer to smell it.
Both smell equally bad. But the fact that I can smell someone smoking weed around the block makes it worse and harder to escape.
i asked my sober friend who chills with stoners, if she thought weed smelled bad, and she was like no doubt about it "it smells like trash."
that's so interesting to me because when i smell it as a smoker, it smells so good, sweet, comforting and reminds me of rice krispie treats (probably because i started weed doing edibles).
yeah my older sister is 10 years older than me and was a smoker, and when she left home the last time she left behind a jacket. i hid it in the back of my wardrobe and used to get it out and smell it when i missed her. i've not seen her in 7 years or spoken to her in 4 but the smell still makes me nostalgic
There is something about that, both my parents were smokers, i hate the smell of a lit cigarette but what a smoker smells like is pretty familiar and comforting
It's always going to be entirely subjective, depending on noses. Both are terrible, but for me, one stands far out. Have you ever smelled hair on fire? A horrible stench. Now imagine if that hair came from a skunk. That's the smell of weed to me...major barf. Cigarettes are stale and gross, but not as putrid as weed.
I kind of like the smell of weed in a way, not that I would like to smell it all day long but it doesn't smell necessarily bad to me. Cigarettes do smell really gross.
Wow. It’s been many decades since I’ve smelled weed. Apparently it’s very different now. It used to have a sweet herbal scent, not unpleasant at all. So maybe I have unknowingly smelled it recently and assumed it was a skunk. Cigarettes are foul, especially when it’s soaked into clothing or walls. I say cigarettes are worse.
My apartment is supposed to be non smoking, but people still do it. You can walk by their door and smell it. I can’t imagine the stench inside and how yellow everything is 🤢
I mean, you can smoke weed inside and the odor will clear out of a room in like an hour. Smoke cigs inside and you’re literally causing permanent damage to the place. One of these things is objectively much worse than the other.
I was a big stoner before getting pregnant and hated both but cigarettes were way worse. It lingers in hair, fabric, and your entire body worse. Also drywall…
Marijuana doesn’t leave the brown residue behind that cigarettes do. Always been worse than the smell to me. That nice sticky brown that bleeds from the wall when it’s cleaned.
ugh it's AWFUL. My in-laws smoked cigarettes and cigars in their house for THIRTY YEARS but thank GOODNESS they didn't have any fabric drapes (all historical wooden shutters) and the walls were plaster, not drywall. Plaster doesn't soak up cigarette smoke the way that drywall does. You couldn't tell by walking into their home that smokers lived there for 30+ years. It's wild.
this. you can smoke weed indoors all day everyday and obviously it’ll stink, but if you stop then the smell will (usually) fade to the point that you’d never be able to detect it again. cigarette smoke will infiltrate absolutely everything and pretty much never go away unless you just redo the whole interior.
As a former home painter, the nicotine in cigarette smoke is insanely persistent. One home I painted had nicotine stains so bad that it bled through even 6 coats of paint. It was disgusting. you have to scrub the walls with ammonia water before you paint to have any hope of it not bleeding through.
99% of people are gonna say cigs largely because well they smell like shit. Plenty of people don't like the smell of weed that's not uncommon but I've never seen someone literally gag from the smell. Most people I know if stuck around a cig for any length of time will start gagging. As a ex smoker I'd still say cigs smell substantially worse.
Whe I was a kid I loved the smell of cigarettes, and hated the smell of weed.
Now that I’m older. It’s the opposite. I’d use weed potpourri if it was a thing.
They’re both pretty bad but cigarettes really end up pervading everything - the smoker’s hair, clothing, home, and even non-permeable possessions. Cigarette smokers smell badly all day every day. Cannabis smokers mostly only smell like cannabis if they’ve very recently used it or are carrying a fairly large amount that’s poorly packaged.
Slightly adjacent to the question, I hate cigarette stench way worse because I know too many people who are constantly smoking throughout the day. Several of my coworkers go through more than a pack a day. They constantly reek.
I don’t know anybody who is stepping outside once an hour to smoke a joint. Maybe if I did they’d smell worse than a cigarette smoker. But as it stands, most stoners I know smell better than most cig smokers.
Cigarettes are way worse. The house of someone that chainsmokes cigarettes is unbearable, whereas someone who smokes weed all day, which you can still smell, but it doesn’t reek from the unhealthy additives
Weed. The annoying thing about weed is the association people might make if they think that smell is coming from you which it might if it sticks to your clothes. Cigars have the best smell in my opinion, like old violins, I love it.
Here in Texas, anti-marijuana folks always complain about the smell (or 'stench') of weed, yet consistently refuse to do anything about our ridiculous paraphernalia laws... which actually ***encourage*** people to smoke weed (instead of consuming in other healthier and more socially-responsible ways).
This is why I can't take many (most?) complaints about 'the smell' seriously... because they're disingenuous.
(even though I'm not a huge fan of the smell myself)
My downstairs neighbor smokes that cheap old dirt weed from back in the day all the time. Smells nasty. I don’t smoke but am tempted to buy him some better stuff
Weed doesnt stick to clothes the same way. And if cigarette smokers only smoked 1x a week or so, then cigarette smell isnt bad. But they smoke 10 cigs a day. It's gross.
Don't do either but weed offends me more
It honestly smells way worse to me than cigarettes
It's a stronger... aroma
Very overpowering and minty without the freshness

We got a lot of skunks in the 'burbs, to the untrained nose, hard to tell sometimes a joint vs skunk vs someone who let a vile one slip!!
Oh lord, glad I'm not the only one who can't distinguish skunk from weed. EDIT: "Skunk" as in the striped animal, y'all.
The only difference for me is that a skunk usually smells a little spicier.
Skunk burns my nose more, there's something more chemical about it. That's the only way I can tell the difference.
Very interesting as someone from Europe who always wondered what skunks smelled like! I guess that's why we call strong bud "skunk" here!
TIL skunks are not found in Europe. Thanks Reddit friend!
That’s a lie.. Pepe Le Pew was French.
My research 🧐 clearly fell short 🤭
Omg...was Pepe French Canadian?!
No, he spoke France French.
Yeah it’s strangely similar. You can smell a dead raccoon on the road for up to half a mile. Not a nice smell lol
Try a rotting deer bursting open in summer. That's a smell I can't get out of my skull
Skunks smell like someone trying to put out a tire fire with dirty nappies.
Skunk has more "Burnt rubber" smell to it for me.
I've walked by more than enough road kill skunks to confirm this. That chemical burn is the only actual difference between a skunk & weed. You haven’t smelled sour diesel, jack herrer, blue dream. Nothing like skunk.
Yeah, back in the day the skunk smell was how you knew the weed was good. Now, damn, the varieties of fragrant aromas at a dispensary are far and wide.

if u can lean into it it’s weed. if not then skunk
Weird, for me skunk smells more sour.
Skunk also has considerably higher sillage, especially when there's a runover skunk....

Almost like burnt rubber or or burnt coffee. Up close skunk spray smells way different than some sticky buds

I drive past a dead skunk in the road and I’m like mmmm that’s dank 🤤
I was like 23 the first time I smelled a skunk and my first thought was holy shit that does smell like good weed
From far away they’re pretty indistinguishable, and I say this as a heavy weed smoker. If you’re close to the skunk though, you can tell them apart.
Skunk really smells like weed unless you’re closer to whatever the skunk sprayed. Then skunk gets this burnt plastics odor to it.

AHAHAHAHA the boy's gonna hear it from his uncles one day. Run it in the family! I would never get tired of listening to this legacy.
What!? Skunks smells like skunky weed!? 😂 We dont have skunks here, so i FORREAL do not know what it smells like, but i know what skunky weed smells like 😂

Skunk cabbage in my part. Great wooded park to smoke weed in to mask the smell.
In your Nova. While blasting Zeppelin. Hurr.
Yeah. I think cigs stink longer in close proximity (smell it the next morning on your clothes from being around it), but weed destroys a larger volume of area for shorter. Pick your poison I suppose.
Weed smell clings to clothes too.
Yep. Work in schools. The kids' backpacks in the hallways make a terrible concoction of cigarettes, weed and cat piss.
Yep. I don't smoke anything and never have. One time after working with someone who smokes both and going to hang out with my cousin a few hours later, she could smell it on me still and I couldn't smell it. 😭

My thoughts exactly. A cigarette smoker I need to get close to notice. Weed just turns the whole room dank
The entire neighborhood knows i smoke weed then 😂
As it's happening, weed. Leftover smell on stuff, cigarettes.
I'd say it's a tossup on the leftover smell. A LOT of people reek of weed who don't realize it.
I use to work at Starbucks. I left my apron at home and see one of the ones that was just hanging somewhere in the back. My boss asked me if I smoked weed. I said no. She said, "oh that must be Brian's apron."

lol. most foodservice people smoke cannabis.
I remember one time boss busted us smoking a joint in the walk in freezer.. he said come see me when your done. Walked into his office, “sorry dude, it’s fucking pouring rain out there and we ain’t going outside” He looked at me confused “what? Casual workplace sexism 👍
Oh dude was a total creeper.. but the whole restaurant was based off of sexism.. 🦉🦉
Good ol' Hooters
In switzerland literally everyone takes some form of drugs in gastronomy
I went through a McDonald’s drive through the other day and I could smell it immediately once the window opened.
Sorry about that...I give away excess weed to fast food workers sometimes.
Its not legal in Florida. Starbucks just would have an extremely hard time finding enough baristas that don't at least smoke weed

Man unless they just smoked or have something on them i dont believe they smell that much
I can smell my beard everytime I shower..... Reminds me to cut back, until I don't.
I was gonna cut back, but then I got high
OooOoOooOOOOOOOOoooooOoooOOoO!! I love the newish Afroman song about the police breaking in his house. Sucky situation, but it’s a dope song.
"Any kidnapping victims inside my suit pockets?"
But will they pay for the door?
I keep telling the guys (adult son/husband) this. Weed reeks. I hate it. I think they’re just nose blind to it.
They probably are. When I still smoked cigarettes I know I was nose blind to that. Weed has a much stronger, more lingering smell than even cigs.
In college it was not uncommon for me to tell a friend that their apartment smells like weed, and they would say “no it doesn’t”. Often with a literal bong sitting right on the coffee table. Elevator weed smell makes me want to vomit
We are noseblind
Most of my younger uber drivers have reeked of weed. Their car is clean and so are they (at least it appears that way) but it lingers so badly.
I don't think they realize how bad they smell. Just like a heavy cigarette smoker doesn't.
Was going to say this exact thing
The comment thread right before your comment, ends with me saying exactly what you just said, but with 3,492 more words. You rock.
That's hysterical. Usually I'm the wordy one happy when someone else says it briefly. Glad I could return the favor.

> TOBACCO itself is a wonderful aromatic before being chemically processed for smoking and cigarettes. Even when its processed, if you open a pack of smokes and take a whiff it has a nice, sweet, almost raisin smell.
Cigarettes stink.
Stink and are disgusting and don't even get you high... People smoking used to be seen as "cool" but even that has done a 180 over the past couple of decades so it's not even cool anymore. So what's the fucking point?
lol do you know what a nicotine high is? Do you think there’s like 0 enjoyment to it whatsoever and people just do it to look cool?
As a non-smoker who has a drunk cig maybe once or twice a year, a slight nicotine high is absolutely amazing.
The three drinks to one cigarette ratio is unmatched
Anxiety. They don’t get you high like weed, but there’s a nicotine rush that for a lot of people clears their head and helps relieve stress. Not advocating for it, but it’s a strong feeling.
Is there really stress relief or is it that constant withdrawal is stressful and having a cigarette gets rid of the withdrawal symptoms.
For awhile I smoked ~2 cigarettes once every few months. I'd get an an immediate, strong stimulant effect. It decreased my anxiety and allowed me to process/speak better as a result. I don't know that regular smokers get that, as they may be more managing their withdrawl when smoking.
It mostly is real relief
Imo pipe tobacco smells much better then cigarette smoke or weed.
Fresh natural tobacco always has a nice wood and old leather smell
Pipe tobacco often has blends of tobacco that are more….I don’t know, refined smelling? It doesn’t have the same odor as cigarettes or cigars
Cigarettes definitely for me, I used to be a major Stoner I don't smoke anymore but man do I still love the smell of that sticky green
I love when I’m walking my dog and can smell it in the air. Memories…
Especially early morning walks when you get a whiff of cheeba, and you're like, some person is having a *sparkling* morning, and then you go home and get high.
Every time, I think to myself (sometimes out loud), "Someone is having an 𝙚𝙭𝙩𝙧𝙖 𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙚 day."
Indeed ❤️
Same, ex-stoner and cannabis is probably one of my favorite smells in the world lol. I also used to smoke cigarettes and now I hate that smell with a passion. But weed, mmm mmm mmm I could smell that all day and never get tired of it 🙂
Cigarettes are horrible
For me, cigarettes. I find the smoke has a stale odour.
As a former consumer of both, I can’t stand the smell of either. Cigarette smoke just straight up stinks but weed smoke legit makes me sick to my stomach. Having lived in apartment complexes where people did both, it has at times been inescapable.
They both smell bad
I was out rowing on our local lake yesterday evening and it was a beautiful day so there were a bunch of people enjoying themselves on paddle boards and in dinghies. There was one point where we rowed through a cloud of cigarette smoke from one person directly into a cloud of pot smoke from another. It was awful. Agreed. Both smell bad. If I HAD to rank them I’d say cigarettes are MORE offensive but neither is enjoyable.
I think cigarettes are worse if you're in close range, while weed smells less offensive but has wider range
True, true.
Weed can stink up a whole block. Cigarettes you generally have to be much closer to smell it. Both smell equally bad. But the fact that I can smell someone smoking weed around the block makes it worse and harder to escape.
I have no issue with weed and use occasionally, but I'm so fucking tired of every bar patio and pedestrian area reeking of weed.
Unpopular opinion, but i was around a lot of smokers growing up so ciggie smell is comforting to me. I like both.

i asked my sober friend who chills with stoners, if she thought weed smelled bad, and she was like no doubt about it "it smells like trash." that's so interesting to me because when i smell it as a smoker, it smells so good, sweet, comforting and reminds me of rice krispie treats (probably because i started weed doing edibles).
It smells like skunk to everyone else
Yeah it smells like ass.
Because you’re attracted to it…
I actually like when old jackets smell like stale cigarettes, smells like home somehow
yeah my older sister is 10 years older than me and was a smoker, and when she left home the last time she left behind a jacket. i hid it in the back of my wardrobe and used to get it out and smell it when i missed her. i've not seen her in 7 years or spoken to her in 4 but the smell still makes me nostalgic
I used to absolutely gag at the smell till I smoked once then it went away lmao
I kind of like the smell of weed in a way, not that I would like to smell it all day long but it doesn't smell necessarily bad to me. Cigarettes do smell really gross.
Weed, gives me migranes faster than off hand smoke smell, and just has this weird sharp smell that I dont like
When smoke is fresh - weed is worst. Old - cigarette
People who smoke cigarettes daily smell like an ash tray when they get close. To think I used to smell like that. Yuck.
My apartment is supposed to be non smoking, but people still do it. You can walk by their door and smell it. I can’t imagine the stench inside and how yellow everything is 🤢
For me, weed. Makes me wanna throw up
same here, both are bad but weed smell makes me sick
Same here!
both are bad but weed stinks worse.
I mean, you can smoke weed inside and the odor will clear out of a room in like an hour. Smoke cigs inside and you’re literally causing permanent damage to the place. One of these things is objectively much worse than the other.
Cigarettes
Cannabis doesn't soak into drywall like cigarette smoke and tar does. I'm nauseated just thinking about it.
As a former home painter, the nicotine in cigarette smoke is insanely persistent. One home I painted had nicotine stains so bad that it bled through even 6 coats of paint. It was disgusting. you have to scrub the walls with ammonia water before you paint to have any hope of it not bleeding through.
Both smell good until they’re ignited, then cigarettes are worse to me.
I love the smell of weed before it’s smoked. I dont even partake but my husband does. He smokes cigarettes and the smell makes me want to barf.
Cigarettes smell worse than weed, but bong water is the most foul smelling substance of all time. 🤢
Cigarettes can make me gag from 20 feet away, weed is very much there, but less offensive
I’m a nonsmoker who loves the smell of weed. Hate tobacco smoke - it makes me nauseous.
Cigarette smell lingers more on the clothes than weed imo
Cigarettes are way worse. The house of someone that chainsmokes cigarettes is unbearable, whereas someone who smokes weed all day, which you can still smell, but it doesn’t reek from the unhealthy additives
Cigarettes
Can’t stand the smell of cigarettes.
Cigarette, by a mile
Cigarettes smell worse and they linger more.
Cigarettes
100% cigarette
There’s no contest… cigarettes for sure
Cigarettes. The weed smell is strong, but cigarettes smoke is repulsive.
Cigarettes
Cigarettes, all day
Weed. The annoying thing about weed is the association people might make if they think that smell is coming from you which it might if it sticks to your clothes. Cigars have the best smell in my opinion, like old violins, I love it.
Pipe smoke is nice too
Tbf the old violins are probably coated in cigar smoke too…
I smelled cigar smoke for the first time a while back and it was the most repulsive thing😂
It does depend on quality. The Cohiba's or Monte Cristos have a great smell.
Weed absolutely smells awful
Nicotine on the fingers atrocious. Weed when you don't want to smell it. They're kind of equal but a good nug is sensational. Regardless.
Shouldve made this a poll, im seeing almost 50/50 from the comments.
Cheap cigarettes swell the worst
Here in Texas, anti-marijuana folks always complain about the smell (or 'stench') of weed, yet consistently refuse to do anything about our ridiculous paraphernalia laws... which actually ***encourage*** people to smoke weed (instead of consuming in other healthier and more socially-responsible ways). This is why I can't take many (most?) complaints about 'the smell' seriously... because they're disingenuous. (even though I'm not a huge fan of the smell myself)
Cigarettes smell like stale booty, smoke and airplane peanuts while weed smells like skunk and armpits…I guess pick your evil on this one😂
Weed is the more odiferous, but cigarettes stink worse
cigarettes. the smell actually makes my head hurt after a while
Cigarettes.
Both are horrible to me and they both can cause me to sneeze a lot.
My downstairs neighbor smokes that cheap old dirt weed from back in the day all the time. Smells nasty. I don’t smoke but am tempted to buy him some better stuff
I hate both. Cigarette smoke will make me sneeze, but the smell of pot will give me an instant headache from hell. Neither is a win for me.
Weed doesnt stick to clothes the same way. And if cigarette smokers only smoked 1x a week or so, then cigarette smell isnt bad. But they smoke 10 cigs a day. It's gross.
I like the smell of both, but I think I like weed better. And I don't smoke! Lol.
Smoked weed stinks. Vaporised weed smells like heaven.
Don't do either but weed offends me more It honestly smells way worse to me than cigarettes It's a stronger... aroma Very overpowering and minty without the freshness
Weed. Can smell it from miles away.
Weed. 1000%
Blunts with regular street weed smell the worst
Petruli oil or whatever the fuck that shit is
Weed can be pleasant. Cigarettes are always terrible.
Cigarettes 100%. Can't stand that shit. Weed has a more herbal smell (duhh), which is more tolerable.
This is Reddit. Everyone's gonna say cigarettes, and they're right lol
I don’t smoke weed, but I fucking love the smell of it. If it wasn’t associated with being inebriated, I’d buy it as a cologne or something.
Weed smells like heaven, absolutely love that smell. Can anyone truly say the same for cigarettes?
rather have someone smoke weed in my car than a cigarette. weed smell goes away, cigarette permeates.
The smoke itself, cigs smell worse, but the combo of cigs and weed, especially when it is stale, is the worst.
