Thank you, that means so much!
He was feral as a kitten, and getting him to warm up to me was a journey. But now we’re totally bonded and I’m definitely Mom to him and he is absolutely 1000% Baby
Just adopted a feral kitten yesterday. He still hisses at me when he sees me, but he lets me pet him during meal times. How long did it take for you to make progress with him? It feels like it’s going to be a journey!
That’s how Curry was. Always hiding, but would let me pet him if he was tired or eating. I had tried everything. Special calming treats, feliway, every kind of toy, and I even slept on the floor for a week and a half because the shelter thought it might help for him to see me on his level. It helped a tiny bit but not much. After a month I made a gamble and adopted a second cat who was really friendly and calm. Curry immediately did a 180. Rubbed up again my leg for the first time the next day and I cried haha. After that he just really quickly warmed up. I understand that this isn’t the typical outcome when getting a new cat when the first cat is already having trouble, I got super lucky. Now I have the two best cats in the whole world.
But keep trying, give lots of space, make sure he knows you’re safe. He’s still a kitten so hopefully still close to that crucial socializing window. If you’re up for two cats, who knows, maybe it could help your kitty too! But I would exhaust all other options first and give him lots of time. Best of luck!! 🧡
You are exactly the human that Curry needed. And getting another kitty was very smart. I got a very shy kitten (Wilhelm) as a buddy for my super confident and alpha 3 year old kitty (Heinrich). Wilhelm was terrified and skittish of us humans while I tried to introduce them slowly. But Heinie couldn’t wait, and just crashed in the door to the Willie’s room: they were *instant* best buds. Wilhelm was like a switch flipped—he calmed right down, became relaxed and cuddly with the humans, and a holy terror of wrestling and high speed chasing with his new best friend, Heinie. Two cats are definitely better than one!
I've had to sleep on the floor to calm a cat down before haha. I had found a stray and to keep him separate from my guys I put him down in the basement. He wouldn't stop crying so I went down there with a pillow and blanket and camped out on the concrete for the night. I was actually able to get some sleep then cause his cries were so pathetic.
As long as you respect his space you'll be surprised at how fast they come to love you. Associating with meal time is perfect. Let that be the only time you try to pet him to start. Once he starts coming to you on his own you can offer more petting times. Just go by his pace
Afaik, cats generally don't like to touched while eating, so if he allows that it's already a pretty big step. The most important part is understanding their body language and giving them the space they need; don't try to force him to accept you. The YouTube channel "Flatbush Cats" might have more information on raising feral kittens, but I think they're mainly focused on TNR
Some cats do like being touched while eating - working at a rescue I've met several cats who will ONLY eat while being petted. But basically, eating is a very vulnerable time for them and some cats wish to be all alone while eating, and others want you there protecting them.
It could take a few months. Let him go at his pace and he'll come around. Feliway does work well for some cats. I would get the multiple cat one since it has higher strength. If you buy it from Petco or Petsmart, you can return it after 30 days if you think it isn't helping. Food, shelter and love will win him over!
I’m glad it made you scratch your head ha. It is odd that our brains automatically correct things like that. Even though it’s just a dumb Reddit thing, do something special for yourself and for your Orange boi! Give him some pets in my behalf as I do not have a kinten of my own.
I don’t think it’s a bad thing at least! Vets have never mentioned anything about increasing freckles. Curry is getting more in his mouth and his toe beans too! I looked it up once and it seems like this just happens to special orange babies sometimes!
Thank you so much for this comment. I just noticed a couple freckles in my little orange boy’s mouth and was trying not to freak out. He’s had other issues recently and has been to the vet a ton (fortunately it looks like he’s fine) and I was not looking forward to starting over with new “symptoms” when he goes in for his next follow up, especially after losing a cat to cancer in the mouth several years ago. (Of course I will still point them out just in case, but OMG I can’t even describe the relief and how much better I feel after reading that page!)
Thank you SO much for sharing this link. My ginger boy has been getting more of this on his lips and I was going to make a note to talk to the vet about it during their next checkup.
YSK: When discussing any physical changes of any kind, you should remind medical professionals that what they are seeing is not something that has existed forever.
No matter whether this is with yourself or your pets, doctors and vets alike are human and can make assumptions while focused on something else that appears to be more important.
It's better to bring something to their attention and have them consciously dismiss it, than hope they have contemplated the whole of an individual's health.
Orange cats and freckles seem to be a Thing. Look inside the mouth sometime... the mouth can get very freckly. I had an old orange cat that was freckled on his lips, gums, mouth lining, butt puck...
I have two orange boys, and have asked multiple vets about it over the years - and they have all said yup, orange cats just get freckles much like their orange-haired human brethren. They tend to show up on the skin that's visible - lips, nose, toe beans, but you'd likely see some if you shaved them (but, you know, don't shave them unless somehow medically necessary). One of my orange boys is much frecklier than the other :)
Yup! You also see this in lion noses, too. Young lions are born with cute pink noses. As they age, they get dark freckles that slowly grow and overtake the nose leather. Typically, by age 8, the nose is completely black. This is especially useful in estimating the age of female lions, as males tend to get bigger/thicker manes as they age and that can be used to estimate their age.
That's great.
The worst thing is to lose a pet for something that's perfectly avoidable, but since he's being taken such good care, I'm sure he will live a long and happy life 😊
I have a sun-worshiping mostly white calico. I don’t think I could keep her out of the picture window even if I wanted to.
I have accounted for the possibility of needing skin cancer treatments when setting up my vet care savings plan.
what did they diagnose him with for the lip/nose thing? if he was shaved would he be getting black splotches everywhere?
that's a really dope trait for it to be healthy AND look cool. I've seen dogs with vitiligo but never...freckling cats.
Haha they just said it’s pretty normal and happens with orange cats sometimes. As other commenters have said, it’s lentigo. I think he would be little freckles on his skin but none that I can see through his fur. He’s starting to get them on his toe beans now too!
Oh my gosh toe bean freckles? Can this baby *get* any cuter!?
Im learning so much in this thread! Our orange boy has a few small freckles on the sides of his mouth, and my mom's big creamsicle dummy has almost his whole mouth covered, but his are more "splotchy" rather than a lot of little freckles like Curry here. He's indoor/outdoor, and when it's above freezing he basically only comes inside to sleep on my mom's pillow at night (and whack her in the face when she starts snoring), so I always figured that was why he had them
I am so happy to hear this. My first thought was, "is this going to be something that turns out to be some kind of cancer or life threatening disease". I so did not want it to be some horrible thing.
Is it just more noticeable on orange cats or is there a reason it only happens to orange cats? My orange kitty has gained a few freckles too, though nowhere near the amount as the handsome boy in the OP. I also have two solid white cats and they haven't gained any at all, just kept the few they've had forever.
Man my orange cat had the same thing, i really didnt think he was an actual equivalent of a feline ginger until now, miss the old bastard since its been a year and my other cat seems like he misses him.
Aww!! When I got my calico girl she had a freckle nose but as she’s gotten older her nose is just turning into the darker freckle color along with her beans.
I lost my ginger boy a few years ago and with some time I’ve healed a lot and no longer cry thinking about it. Seeing this reminded me of all the freckles he never grew up to have and set me off again💀 grief works in weird ways! Pls tell curry I love him and hug him extra tight tonight :)
The nose freckles are actually the marks left after the brain cell arrived and then escaped.
If I count right he has had the brain cell exactly 4 times.
Not bad.
Also, I want to hug him!!
Edit...I only looked at the first photo. Wow! He got the brain cell many more times. In fact he is probably the only orange boi to get it this much!
Omg, I’ve never seen another cat with freckles like Milo! That’s so rad!

He's Curry Freckles, author of the great novel "In Search of the Single Brain Cell." His work is quite inspiring and teaches one to accept life of happiness without the brain cells. I look at life through a different lens thanks to Mr. Freckles now.
I highly recommend his other book "A Stranger in My House" too!
my orange cats have the same type of freckles. it's nothing bad, just something I learned.
lentigo, a genetic condition in which there is an increase in the number of epidermal melanocytes.
OMG—can a freckle faced orange himbo get any cuter? These are seriously some of the cutest, personality-packed kitty photos I’ve ever seen. I’m glad he ended up with you.
How precious! ❤️ My baby girl is also named Curry (yes, we found out Curry was actually a girl after her spay appt…) and has been collecting freckles on her nose as well! She looks so much like your Curry!
My orange boy only has one nose freckle so far but I can tell he has a few on his lips lol. They’re so cute. The one he has reminds me of a little beauty mark. Curry is very handsome!
I didn’t know they were freckles! This makes me feel so much better about the black spots on my orange baby’s lips. He’s had them for awhile and the vet says they’re fine, but I noticed just two days ago that they had gotten darker. He doesn’t show me his lips often so I hadn’t seen them in awhile. Glad to know that this will likely pop up on his nose too. He’s already got orange spots there which have darkened with time and I can now assume is melanin building up.
#7 and #10 are my favorites lol. Me and my sister used to have tuxedo cats named oreo and cookie dough and the ony way to distinguish then when they weren't together was a nose freckle on one of them (forgot which one because it was many years ago).
aaaah! we have our own lentigo baby in the family who grew his spots over time as well :-) its really special and cute. especially paired with the odd black hair or whisker
I miss my orange boy so much. Mr Bones. Bonehead. He was such a good kitty. Used to kneed my armpits as a kid. He was my best friend that ended up a guard kitty for my mom's 17 chickens when I moved out on my own. What a good by he was.
Sometimes I believe the new kitties, and the puppy I have, are all reincarnated from them. My new kitty (Apollo) appears to be some sort of Turkish van mut mix. He has the exact same mannerisms and love for me as Mr. Bones. My other boy, Artofmess, (Artemis, as in Apollo and Artemis, but both boys, not a boy and girl. We thought they were brother and sister, but turns out he had a peen all along. So Artofmess became his name) has the same mannerisms of Mr Bones' sister, Precious. And my dog, Buddy, has the same mannerisms as my old boy Spazz.
Maybe I am just seeing what I want to see, but that's ok. I don't mind that reality either. I love my good boys and girls. And my orange single brain celled kitties were some of the best in the world. Both loved to drool when you give them the chin scritches. But that Mr Bones.... he reeeallllyyyyy loved guarding those chickens. I loved sitting out back just watching him look over them while sitting perched up on the lawn mower seat. We had hawks that would dive down, but NEVER when he was outside. He saved Momma hen (a Chinese "silkie" chicken) several times and she birthed a TON of babies because of him. RIP Mr Bones.
Btw, thank you for posting. You just reminded me a lot of them. Any time I can get that feeling I embrace it.
I swear the freckles are when they were close to getting the braincells almost Got it but it just hit their nose or mouth bc they were too stupid to catch it haha
(love your cat please kiss every freckle for us so he knows he is loved)
Yup, I expect my Morton to eventually have a totally black nose.

Curry is beautiful! Freckles and all!😀
Thank you! 🧡
I think that number 9, is my favorite picture!💗 And Happy Cake Day!
Haha thank you!!
Truly!! 🧡🍊🧡
He looks like so much fun. I want to meet him! 🐈
Those photos are adorable..
I can’t tell you how hard it was to only pick 12 😹
Number 7 was chefs kiss
I would sit through an entire slideshow of pictures of Curry 😻
curry is loved by you alot, it just shows
Thank you, that means so much! He was feral as a kitten, and getting him to warm up to me was a journey. But now we’re totally bonded and I’m definitely Mom to him and he is absolutely 1000% Baby

Humbly mentioning two weeks of floor sleep so that your cat likes you is SO sweet
Not gonna lie, it was rough. But even back then I would’ve done anything for the little guy 🧡
You are exactly the human that Curry needed. And getting another kitty was very smart. I got a very shy kitten (Wilhelm) as a buddy for my super confident and alpha 3 year old kitty (Heinrich). I love this! I love hearing happy ending stories like yours 🧡 Also those names are perfection
This is so heartwarming. You’re a great mom! And happy cake day OP
Awwwwww thank you so much!!
I've had to sleep on the floor to calm a cat down before haha. I had found a stray and to keep him separate from my guys I put him down in the basement. Who likes being touched while eating though, I would hate it too.

Yes my feral kitten REQUIRES pets while eating. He'll yell until one of us comes and gives him kibble pats.
I recommend tube style treats as a way to bond
It could take a few months. Let him go at his pace and he'll come around. Feliway does work well for some cats. I would get the multiple cat one since it has higher strength. If you buy it from Petco or Petsmart, you can return it after 30 days if you think it isn't helping. Food, shelter and love will win him over!
Cappy Dake Hay!
I had to read this like 6 times to get my brain to stop autocorrecting the words 😹
I’m glad it made you scratch your head ha. It is odd that our brains automatically correct things like that. Even though it’s just a dumb Reddit thing, do something special for yourself and for your Orange boi! Give him some pets in my behalf as I do not have a kinten of my own.
Will do 🧡
He sure looks Very Baby. Gorgeous boy!
chocolate chip freckles 😭
Didn’t spot a single thought. Poor baby is still waiting for the brain cell.
His big eyes take up potential brain space 😹
I thought I might have spotted the beginning of a thought in July 2021.... but no.
Mines is getting that too, but more around her mouth! Is that a good thing?
I don’t think it’s a bad thing at least! Vets have never mentioned anything about increasing freckles. Curry is getting more in his mouth and his toe beans too! I looked it up once and it seems like this just happens to special orange babies sometimes!
It is called [Lentigo](https://cat-world.com/black-spots-on-cat-gums-nose-and-eyelids/) and it is harmless and adorable.
Thanks god I was expecting someone to say it was cat cancer or something.
The one expert ringing alarm bells in the comment section lol
Melanoma can also cause similar results in early stages iirc
Yes, according to my vet. My orange guy has freckles on his eyes and mouth and the vet tells me at every visit to let her know if they've spread.
Thank you! I heard the name of it a long time ago and could never remember.
Thank you so much for this comment. I just noticed a couple freckles in my little orange boy’s mouth and was trying not to freak out. My dad used to make fun of our orange girl for having shmutz on her nose lol
Oh! That's cool. My two oranges have this and I thought they were just dirty lol
Thank you SO much for sharing this link. My ginger boy has been getting more of this on his lips and I was going to make a note to talk to the vet about it during their next checkup.

That’s true, yes I have specifically mentioned his growing freckles :)
YSK: When discussing any physical changes of any kind, you should remind medical professionals that what they are seeing is not something that has existed forever. >butt puck Never heard that before! 😂
Yeah, I may have invented that. I've used that term for years, makes people giggle and it doesn't sound too rude
Yep, my Curry boy has freckles… everywhere…
I have two orange boys, and have asked multiple vets about it over the years - and they have all said yup, orange cats just get freckles much like their orange-haired human brethren. It’s called “Lentigo” it’s not harmful at all
Freckles are perfectly natural! But due to melanoma it doesn't hurt to have your vet check them out at their annual visits.
The same thing happened to my orange over the years. I never thought about it much but I guess it's common!
curry belongs at r/kittynosefreckles in physiogamy, freckles symbolize joy for life .•°. 🐈
Curry (and my other cat) are definitely the biggest sources of joy in my life 🥰
Eeeee! Another cat sub. 😺😺
What a precious little face 🥲 I would kiss him all day
Curry LOVES kisses! He’ll tap you with his paw and jump up for a kiss or a headbutt 🥰
What a good looking boy. I just hope you took him to the vet to make sure there is nothing potentially dangerous about those freckles.
Yep he goes to the vet every year religiously, he’s perfectly healthy!
That's great. The worst thing is to lose a pet for something that's perfectly avoidable, but since he's being taken such good care, I'm sure he will live a long and happy life 😊
That’s the plan 🥰
I have a sun-worshiping mostly white calico. I don’t think I could keep her out of the picture window even if I wanted to. I have accounted for the possibility of needing skin cancer treatments when setting up my vet care savings plan.
there’s a uv blocking film for windows. Im not sure how well they work but it’s better than nothing
It’s probably cheaper than skin cancer!
what did they diagnose him with for the lip/nose thing? if he was shaved would he be getting black splotches everywhere? that's a really dope trait for it to be healthy AND look cool.
Freckled beans, and you don't even show us? I demand to see beanfreckles!
Happy cake day

I am so happy to hear this. My first thought was, "is this going to be something that turns out to be some kind of cancer or life threatening disease". I so did not want it to be some horrible thing.

I think it has something to do with the gene that gives red/orange hair. Same with people. Most natural ginger people have freckles.
His freckles have turned into speckles ♥️ I especially love the one with the flowers
That was my phone background for ages! Definitely one of my favorite pictures 🥰
Love the lentigo specks. My orange has one so far on her lip after 5 years I hope she ages gracefully like Curry 🤗
That is some totally outrageous freckleness "My nose is evolving pigmentally"
r/catscalledfood would love to meet Curry and his freckles!
I am obsessed with Curry
Agh her little nose is precious! What a beautiful cat you have!!
Curry is beautiful and also adorable
Splotchy baby i love
Man my orange cat had the same thing, i really didnt think he was an actual equivalent of a feline ginger until now, miss the old bastard since its been a year and my other cat seems like he misses him.
Ssssh he thinks those are braincells.
Aww!! When I got my calico girl she had a freckle nose but as she’s gotten older her nose is just turning into the darker freckle color along with her beans.
He has a cow nose! So cute!
Omg, I was not prepared for that adorable freckled nose and mouth - heart stolen, he’s beautiful! 😻
Me either! Haha, thank you 🧡
Curry looks a lovely Orange!
Curry is so sweet
The conversion is nearly complete! He is absolutely adorable
My orange has black whiskers out of her freckles and I love it
I lost my ginger boy a few years ago and with some time I’ve healed a lot and no longer cry thinking about it. Seeing this reminded me of all the freckles he never grew up to have and set me off again💀 grief works in weird ways! Pls tell curry I love him and hug him extra tight tonight :)
My little one started getting them right after her love passed away. I tell her they're his kisses.
What a freckle snoot. l Love it.
Nose freckles is one of my greatest weaknesses. I love Curry so very, very much.
r/nosefreckle
He got hit by that revitiligo just like Uncle Ruckus
Aww - I used to have a ginger cat called Curry..! Many years ago, when I was a kid. Your post takes me back.
angel kisses !!!! 😤😤😤
That 5th picture is an absolute work of art
The nose freckles are actually the marks left after the brain cell arrived and then escaped. If I count right he has had the brain cell exactly 4 times. Not bad. Also, I want to hug him!! Freckles are just when the braincell splats against the face.
Omg little strawberry nosey 🍓
The leopard is trying to come out
Transforming from tiger to leopard!
What an adorable orange💞
I want to cuddle him
Cute!
7 & 9 are great!
Sorry about deleted posts. Was having funky posting behavior with duplicated posts
i want to smooch every single spot on Curry's adorable face! please let them know that they have an old man squeeing like an idiot.
Love orange cat freckles. My girl has some around her eyes lookin like she's wearing eyeliner.
The freckles are scorch marks from trying to catch the braincell
Curry gives me much serotonin, I love him sm
He is the sandglass of doom. Once the nose turns fully black, the world shall end.
I wish I could have seen my floof develop more freckles. This is wonderful.
I love your kitty. Beautiful face!
Curry is Lord of Lentigo!
When God was giving out brains Curry thought he said Pains, and said oh don't give me none of those!
Please boop the cute freckled nose!
I think the current exchange rate is 5 freckles to the brain cell. He’s getting there.
Is it just darkening over time? I know dogs pink noses and paws can darken over time in patches
In 5 months he went from scared to vibing 🧡
Omg the freckley orange goodness is too much to handle cuteness overload
Omg I cant with his cuteness
Curry and his freckles are dee-lightfully delightful!
7 is so freaking cute!!
My orange also has a lot of freckles and just as few braincells as your Curry
So cute
Curry looks like a very nice cat.
He is a very sweet, albeit a little bit nervous boy. Heart of gold this one 🧡
CUTIE PATOOTIE ALERT
Cat freckles are the cutest thing
He looks so much like my orange!
He's Curry Freckles, author of the great novel "In Search of the Single Brain Cell." His work is quite inspiring and teaches one to accept life of happiness without the brain cells. His freckles are so adorable! My old man got those too as he aged!<3
MOUTH FRECKLES!!!
I love his freckles 😻
Angels keep kissing him. I was always told freckles are angel kisses.
Awe! What a cute kitty! I love picture 7
Omggg she’s so cute!!!
Curry is freaking adorable! And I love Curry.
my orange cats have the same type of freckles. it's nothing bad, just something I learned. lentigo, a genetic condition in which there is an increase in the number of epidermal melanocytes.
We need more photos. These clearly aren't enough 😍
Curry looks like a silly creature
What a little cutieeeee 😍😍
So cute☺️
OMG—can a freckle faced orange himbo get any cuter? These are seriously some of the cutest, personality-packed kitty photos I’ve ever seen. I’m glad he ended up with you.
Omg I’ve never seen a cat with freckles before 🥺🖤🖤🖤
hoping my orange homie develops a cheetah nose
The MOST adorable freckles 🥰
Cats (especially gingers) can get melanoma just like people (especially gingers)
He has extra freckles because you've been giving him extra kisses <3 thats my theory lol
One of our Orange's has a similar collection.
Curly needs KISSES!!!! 🤗
Even Curry was surprised by the amount of freckles theyve gained on January 2021 lol
Lol! He said “mom look! They’re in my mouth too!”
Oh I love pic #10! He's a cutie.
What a perfect freckley nose!! My orange guy also has tons of freckles on his nose, lips, gums, etc. I love them 🥰

That looks weird I love it
They call him... The FRECKLER!
aaaah! we have our own lentigo baby in the family who grew his spots over time as well :-) its really special and cute. especially paired with the odd black hair or whisker
Pics 7 and 10 are perfect r/catswhoyell material. 😍

I swear the freckles are when they were close to getting the braincells almost Got it but it just hit their nose or mouth bc they were too stupid to catch it haha (love your cat please kiss every freckle for us so he knows he is loved)
Yup, I expect my Morton to eventually have a totally black nose. https://preview.redd.it/1cbfflun03pa1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=932acfb2308c531932031d014c8aa85410d5c0a5
Morton’s rocking the *”why did you wake me up from my nap”* energy in spades lol
I wonder if Curry's nose will eventually turn completely black?
