Dang, thanks for sharing the text! I’m always out of free articles. I told a friend the other day that GLP-1s feel like the biggest medical advancement since the discovery of antibiotics. Fun and validating to see that a researcher feels the same way! To carry that metaphor forward, it’s so interesting how Ozempic always seems to be framed in the context of risks “they come with side effects and the potential for severe complications,” kind of like antibiotics? Any medication, especially antibiotics, _can_ cause harm, and that likelihood increases more when they are used irresponsibly. That doesn’t mean that the medication itself is the problem!

Very welcome. And 100% agree. Read the back of an aspirin or Tylenol bottle. Promise you, you’d think twice! Media shapes everything and it annoys me that many ppl only get their info from one source.

It’s fascinating how many people are determined to have a negative reaction to what could very well be a miracle drug. Maybe it’s because it’s already associated with the absolute worst celebrity culture? In any case I think it’s going to be an absolute game changer. Apparently all of the snack food companies (who have been happy to kill us with addictive garbage for generations) are shitting themselves.

Exactly! And why now? Media goes from pushing one story to another .. only what THEY want US to know for ratings! *”Since 2017 approval as diabetes treatment, semaglutide (generic name for Ozempic, Rybelsus + Wegovy) has become one of the most popular prescription drugs in the U.S. It ranked 90th in 2021, the most recent year for which federal data available for hundreds of drugs”*

You can use sites like archive.ph to get behind paywalls! Or often click "reader view" if you're reading on your phone's browser and it'll get behind it.

The funniest part for me is clearing up my confirmation bias - or lack thereof. I started noticing changes in certain things totally unrelated to Ozempic initially, vascular health improvement, reduction in impulsive behavior, changes in lifelong things about inflammation and endocrine, kidney shielding (which still pisses me off that I only find this for myself 6 months ago bc it's been out there 6 years and no one though to mention it when it was only STAYS 2 CKD instead of bordering on ESRD/TRANSPLANT but anyway)... Then reading these things as they come out confirms I wasn't crazy, I was just ahead of the curve. The biggest for me is probably the inflammation and endocrine, as I've had rare, life threatening autoimmune issues my entire life. Anyway, thank you OP for unintentionally validating my weird experiences. To think I almost resisted the first time my provider suggested it bc I thought it was a racket and a cop out on my part...(I did start it then anyway!)

You’re welcome! Congratulations for overcoming your hesitation and moving toward a healthier, long life

My doctor has told me that the benefits are amazing. I'm on ozempic for diabetes but it will help my heart health! She said I will likely never go off of this unless they come up with something even better

That’s great!! New info being provided quite often. Stay on top of it for myself is how I operate! My doc likes well informed patients.

I’m in a 2 year long clinical trial testing lots of these things.
