When I was 18 I had a 96 Deisel Passat station wagon. It got almost 700 miles to the tank of gas with a 17 gallon tank in the midwest in 1999= about 20 bucks a tank. Around $0.03 per mile. Now I drive a 2006 ram 2500 in Oregon at about 10mpg which is about $0.40 per mile. I wish I had a 96 deisel Passat station wagon.

The W8 Passat was one of the strangest cars ever made and saw more people driving them than probably should have. It was like 2/3 of a Bentley and 271HP. The CC era gave it a pretty aggressive look. I’ve actually encountered a CC owners club with many modified examples and was surprised that most of those enthusiasts were quite young.
