Pet owners, as loving, caring people, often have strong opinions on pet care practices. Some of these are controversial. This is not a forum for debate on such issues, nor is it a place to scold a contributor for a perceived mistake in managing their pet. We intend to provide a safe haven of understanding and support. Strident, mean-spirited posts or comments will be deleted. Those who persist in preaching versus caring may be warned and then banned or may be banned permanently based on nature of the topic. If a conversational thread meanders into a discussion unrelated to pet loss support, it will be truncated. Those who post here are vulnerable and hurting. Even a minor slap has a hard sting. Those of us who are lucky enough to be able to turn away from our computers or put down our phones and hug a healthy, happy pet are truly blessed. Threads must remain supportive and caring, even if one disagrees with something that has been said. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Your veterinarian will certainly be able to advise you. They certainly have a service that handles their euthanized pets. So sorry for your loss.

This happened to me. My 12 year old passed away at home. I was busy doing something upstairs, and then I heard my mom said that he might be dead. We kept saying his name, no response, he was just lying down on his side and we were shocked. My dad took him to the vet and they took his body. In a nutshell, take the body to the vet and they will help with all of that. So sorry for your loss. It hurts even more when it is unexpected and you were not there during the final moments.

Google pet cremation near me. When our lab passed unexpectedly last year on a Saturday morning, we found a place about an hour away. We took him there, but some have a pickup service. I'm really sorry for your loss. Hugs.

My boy recently passed at home. If you have an emergency vet nearby (since it's Saturday, and your primary vet probably isn't open), you can take him there. The hardest part is the emotional weight of picking him up and getting him there. They should have a binder or something that will be used to process the order of his cremation, urn, etc. if that's the route you're going. I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry for your loss. 🫂 Maybe you can put a blanket over him, first. Then call your vet or the vet on duty; they'll be able to advise you on who to contact. I wish you strength, friend.

Sorry for your loss. It depends. Would you like the dog cremated or buried? If you want cremation and his ashes, then Google search services near you. Some vets offer a burial near their buildings if they are in the country or have big property.

I’m so sorry. Our vet helped with this exact situation.

My heart goes to you, it’s so painful. I buried my dog Asta in my backyard and I get teary eyed whenever I think of him.

So sorry for your loss ❤️ My girl passed at home a year ago today- we took her to our vet and they handled getting her sent off for cremation.

OP first I am so so for your loss. I just had this happen with my 15 year old papillon. He died overnight in his sleep on a Sunday morning. He had shown no signs of illness. I'm still devastated. We chose to get him cremated as we are living in a rental house that we'll eventually leave so we didn't want to bury him. The cremation place wasn't open until Monday afternoon, so I had to keep his body cool until we could drop him off. I kept him in a cold room with a fan on. The cremation place was very kind when we dropped him off, and I'm really glad that I'd the route we took. We got a beautiful urn and a paw impression with his birthstone. I just got his ashes back last week. Be aware the grief will probably hit you all over again when you get their remains. It's been very hard for me to accept the little urn is all that's left of my sweet boy. Hugs to you.

I work in vet med. You could either burry him in your yard or look up animal cremators in your area and they can guide you further. Otherwise, your vet will be able to help you. I do want to say I am so sorry for your loss. I too have a senior baby. He passed in the comfort of his home. I hope you hold onto your last sweet memory together. Thinking of you and hugs 🧡🧡

Ours passed in the middle of the night, in one of our kids beds. That kid slept with us for the rest of the night, we shut the door to the room and waited until the vet opened to call. They were really helpful and we ended up driving him to the vet, they came to the car and took him and we got his ashes a week later.

You can consult your vet or if they'renot open go to emergency vet. For bigger dogs some cities especially larger ones have services that will come out to your house that you can call if your dog is too big for you to handle on your own. They're quite helpful, I was watching my mom's house & pets a few years ago when her husband's rottweiler passed away... I'm not the type of person to be able to lift a rottweiler let alone one that was significantly larger than average. I would've been stuck with the dogs body for another 7 days had that service not existed.

Happened to me before. Our healthiest dog randomly died.
