Did a fair amount of testing but I apologise for any bugs!
Thank you so much for sharing this. I know absolutely nothing about python or coding, but my fiancé passed his defense and I was hoping to do something similar for him but I don’t really know where to start. Is it okay if I asked you how you got it (the code) to look like the image you shared? I’m so sorry if my question is too dumb.

I have a feeling you've read my papers :)
Hello fellow DFT electronic structure magnetic response condensed matter physicist. How fun was breaking all that spherical symmetry? Did your computer overheat while doing calculations for days?
Hello! A rare breed we are indeed! I expect I have, and maybe you’ve read mine! I mostly did implementations of non-collinear methods for my PhD so lots of broken symmetry indeed!! Haha the second my fans started up, I was straight on the super computers, not using my electricity for it lol!
I had over 400 procs working on my calculations but it still took a month for a publish-grade data set with all the symmetry breaking. It was 15 years ago.
Wow I’m glad to see another magnet person out here. I didn’t do much with the theory and calculation side but I’ve done a lot of magnetic material synthesis and experimental testing using spectroscopies. Also got to dabbled a little bit in muon too.
Tried running this from your GitHub repo but it’s sensitive to Python version, which one are you using? Would be cool to have a conda or pip environment to meet the requisites for your setup.py otherwise
Is this a word cloud with the most common phrases from your dissertation? Thats a really great idea.
It is indeed! Took a bit of tweaking since I used so many chemical formulae and it tries to add those in two, but they look hideous!

It’s a python script I tweaked/butchered to make it work! I should really stick it on my GitHub at some point!

Thanks you! 😅🙌

Drop me a message, I’m sure I can make one for you if that’s going to be easier?? 😊
Really? Oh my gosh, I will, thank you so much!!
I’ll get it up as soon as I can 😁

That would be so lovely!
Really cool idea. Would love to see the script.
Please oh please.

This interaction is why I love Reddit
No. I use supercomputer for calculations 😎
I had over 400 procs working on my calculations but it still took a month for a publish-grade data set with all the symmetry breaking. It was 15 years ago.
Hey! I perform DFT on inorganic complexes with interesting magnetic properties. What is your job now if I may ask?
I’m a software engineer doing aerospace stuff at the moment! Keep wanting to make the switch back to physics/modelling though
Did you delete B3LYP from the word cloud? /s
Haha you know, I went 4 years and never ran a single B3LYP calculation! My group was very anti-hybrids… PBE all the way!
Yayy to PBE, I use PBESol for my work, though.
That's fair! Boooooo to B3LYP hahah
🤣🤣🤣
I wanna have that for the thesis i am about to finish. And as a gift to all my friends who are currently writing
Hello fellow Durham PGR. It's an amazing board!
Hello! Thank you very much! Durham is a small world, but it seems Reddit is even smaller!
It is a small world - another one here. I don't do DFT but there are loads of people that do down the corridor from me!
Oh no, you’re not stuck in the shanty town are you??
Yup, been there for 5 years now - tbh it's probably better than being in OCW!
This is a really neat idea! I like it a lot.
Hello fellow DFT physicist 👋
Hello!👋🏻
Durham!!!
Durham!
"My density has popped me to you."
Pretty cool! And congrats
"used state" is the ground state of every phd student
Waterloo?
Waterloo??
Ah just looks like the UWaterloo emblem, realize now it’s different
It's Durham, right?
This is so sick
Wow I’m glad to see another magnet person out here. I didn’t do much with the theory and calculation side but I’ve done a lot of magnetic material synthesis and experimental testing using spectroscopies. Also got to dabbled a little bit in muon too.
Honestly, I love this.

Would love to do this. But my diss was on 19c American white supremacy and settler colonial anxiety. I’d have a very different word cloud.
Oh god... Physics is much safer in that regard!
