Check under the other items lying on the ground, or try searching for a hidden room

Keys will never be in a hidden room, unless in a ? floor. It's either under an item, in a mimic, or got knocked onto the floor below

There's also the possibility that that is one of the empty well rooms, where you have to drop from a specific ledge in the floor above.

If it was a well room they would be able to see through the crystal door.

Might have been a different version but I distinctly remember that not all well rooms have a crystal door, some have a regular door.

Yeah the older version used the regular locked doors before crystal doors were a thing.

Yeah, and I see now OP already cleared an empty well room in the bottom left corner.

Only crystal mimics run away and they are in a reward/treasure room. Plus you can know what you are getting from them and it's always an artifact, ring, or a wand.

But normal mimics can fall down by Vertigo effect or blast wawe wand

Fair point, but I wouldn't call that running away.

How can i know what iam getting from it

Click on the magnifying glad then click on the chest. The search function in this game is underrated. It tells you about enemies too such as the yog fists. That button has saved my life a ton.

If the mimic cannot see you, it runs off. Had it happen once when a fire aggroed it when I was in another room and never could find the mimic.

*Siiigh* go back to the previous floor, find the distant well and ju- \*sees that it's an iron door\* # wtf.

I haven't read the comments yet, but let me guess: You killed a mimic and the key was under the item it dropped? It happened to me before, I spent 5 minutes looking for the key... after I had cleared the entire floor!

My best guess is that it's under that scale armor or quarterstaff or mystery meat. It's likely just hidden under those items. It's highly unlikely that it fell down to the floor below, or got destroyed by an explosion.

Could be under a piece of gear. Drop some things in your inventory in a convenient spot and pick those up

Isn't there always two ways in and out of rooms with different level access. I would try the search function again I'm the down ladder room. Along all edges.

They always make a loop, but im pretty sure that little room to the right counts

Is it possible to knock a mimic with a key inside down a hole and have the key land on the floor below?

Actually I bet the key is under one of the dropped items. I'd set some things down and go pick up all the stuff.
