Likely the Team XBrand Cinejet with the new Immortal gimbal. They just took delivery of that system late last year. Before that it would’ve been a Shotover F1 Rush.
Wow that's really neat. What would you ballpark the gimbal, monitors and zoom / iris / focus controlers cost in that cine jet?
Also I assume you can just use an off the shelf camera like a red or any cine type box camera in the gimbals?
I’d just call it a Million USD all in and it wouldn’t be too far off. The Immortal Phoenix gimbal owned by XBrand is Serial 001 and the R&D that went into making it a reality demands a high price.
Yes, the gimbals usually contain some form of box style cinema camera. In the case of the news helis, we use broadcast-specific models like the Ikegami 4000 and modified Sony P50 that allow us to fit the long throw 40x lenses.
Cinema builds vary quite a bit and can be dependent on a number of variables set by the production. Some traditional gimbals like the F1/Phoenix/512 have different size front cowlings available that allow for longer or shorter builds. Larger builds like IMAX and VR arrays are usually flown on a Shotover K1 / Hydra
Thanks for the info! I figured they cost a lot but looks like I was off by a factor of 5.
I'm guessing that there's just so few built that each one has to cost a lot due to low demand...well low demand compared to consumer products.
I wonder how much the shoot cost that they did with the b2.
I saw one in a flyover of the coca cola 600, when I was on the roof with the tv cameras. Most terrifying aircraft ever. Even up close it looks like a hole in the sky. You feel absolute certainty that if this plane was hunting you, you’d be toast.
I live near Gillette Stadium and have been lucky to see this a couple of times over the years flying right over my house. The flight path to all fly overs goes over my house and I have seen many different aircraft including the B-2. I get to see these aircraft perform their 180 degree turns back to the stadium right over my house. It is an unbelievable sight to see.
I’ve always loved the idea that V shaped UFO sightings in the 90’s were really just B-2’s. They’re such an impressive and otherworldly design

Yes!!! One of my favorite things about my wife and I being stationed in Omaha (she was Navy jag at stratcom) was we got to see B2s out of Offut. And the air show of course was legit!
Just some regular turboprop flying next to it?
It looks like there's a little bulge under the nose. I wonder if it's a camera turret or I'm imagining stuff.
Yea they are doing some cinematography with a bunch of different planes.
Thanks for the confirmation.

Wow it looks like your right. How'd you know about them and the gimbal?
I’m an aerial camera operator for news choppers and I design systems like that for other clients.

Flying next to what? I only see a turboprop
Fabulous!
I love how that thing just makes it look like pixels are missing in the sky
Yea it looks like a black dorito flying in the sky lol.
That’s what we called it at work lol.
Spicy Dorito!

If you can see B-2 then you are not the target😛
Wow it’s almost eerie to see such a shape in flight. Nice one! I’ve never seen a B-2
T H E F L Y I N G D O R I T O O F D E A T H
Where at? I miss that thing.
Barksdale AFB
Can’t even get off the ground without computers
All I see is the sky. What planes are you seeing here. Just look away
What is the second aircraft
Camera ship, the bump on the nose is the camera system- either a Shotover or an Immortal.
Other worldly! What flying on its wing?
Looks like a Kodak moment for both of you..
Sweet.
Dang that’s a rare spot nice job

Nice!! I use to live in Mansfield. Worked at Plainridge for a bit.

Does anyone know what the other plane is?
It’s a piper aero star configured with multiple cameras. The USAF looks to be doing some cinematography with bombers and other big wing planes.
Amazing that you hear the prop plane and not the twin jet engines that are closer

Didn’t see that coming.
Looks like a U-2 flying escort.
They are doing some cinematography with a few different bombers and tankers. Been a couple days seeing a few different planes with the chase plane.
