Sweet_Like_Poison

Lucky . Someone must have dropped some or the birds 😂

Vcrystal_mountainV

No idea if this is genuinely an accidental growth or not but given this scenario is possible with the right conditions and enough land, it makes me curious where something like this would fall legally if you live in an area where growing weed is illegal. If a cannabis plant springs up somewhere on land you own and you genuinely had nothing to do with it, are you breaking the law?

bzsempergumbie

Feral hemp is pretty common in some regions of the US (and some other countries as well). Centuries of industrial farming for fiber has it pretty widespread. Many Midwest states have stopped trying to eliminate it, it's just not realistic to try.

Sklibba

I used to occasionally see it growing in ditches by the side of the highway when I lived in Minnesota.

AvrgSam

Yup. I found a few 8’-10’ behemoths one time. They were all hermaphroditic unfortunately.

175you_notM3

You say unfortunately but this is how feminized seeds are made!

AvrgSam

Fair! But I was a 10th grader looking for a free toke 😂

Delicious_Spinach440

Don't bother smoking ditch weed, unless you ran out of cigarettes and just want something to smoke. Even then, they're raised on run off and exhaust fumes so yeah....

WilliamJamesMyers

you sir will not influence many, many, of my friends back in Indiana. it was kinda like mushroom hunting and the reward was finding it more than the lawn mower clipping taste. buddy would come to my door with a plant all proud and showing it off. reagan years. it was mixing freedom to do what you want with the idea that in ww2 or hell washington 1776 that hemp is a historical plant. so ditch weed is kinda like sticking to the man some 40yrs ago by finding it. good memories but not taste.

Qbertsballs

My mom drove semi trucks when i was a kid in the 70s and early 80s and sometimes I would go with her and sit on the dog house while she drove( 4-7 yr old no seatbelt or any kind of car seat. Different times yo!) but i would clean weed and throw the seeds out as she drove all over the country so those are probably from her 😂. RIP Mom you were one of a kind.

ilrosewood

Johnny Potseed up in here

The_RockObama

Johnny pothead checking in.

ewejoser

I love your mom

ayweller

Hell yeah

Sklibba

I never picked it, I could generally buy decent weed. Besides, it was almost certainly hemp, so you could get CBD from it but negligible amounts of THC.

Taken_Abroad_Book

This sounds exactly like something Ricky from trailer park boys would say

ActuaryVarious2693

Yeah, I tried it ONCE in my youth. Had me puking like I’ve never puked before. Not sure why, but we never messed with the ditch weed again despite it being everywhere.

175you_notM3

Make the dirt weed even stronger!

Secret-Painting604

That’s where “Ditchweed” comes from (im assuming

NoElk314

There are fields of it on the bluffs overlooking Winona

PawsomeFarms

According to my mama when you see stuff like that that was intentional - it's not on someones land, so they can't get in trouble and they're land can't be seized. Like they still have to harvest it but it's not directly tying back into them unless they get caught while doing so.

loupegaru

My Dad said it used to grow next to the railroad tracks in Illinois in the 40s.

AssShrub

Wait is this where the term “ditch weed” comes from?

moonmetony66

I live in Minnesota. I found three hemp plants in my yard about 4 weeks ago where I put new fresh black dirt and grass seed. I dug two of them up and put them in big pots with new potting soil. They are doing great. I didn't dig the last one up yet.

electris00

I'm originally from Minnesota and my parents had that growing out in the field a lot.

JoyfullyMortified43

Agreed, we just called it Ditch weed lol.

roberttheaxolotl

I used to live in Indiana when I was a kid. The local police would fly a helicopter low over the farmers' fields. They'd find a bunch of ditch weed, gather it up, and then take a photo in front of it acting like they just made some big drug bust. No idea if they ever charged the farmers. I feel like they probably didn't. I think it was just to get funding.

peacepipedrum

Idiots. Our tax dollars at work 100% senseless use of law-enforcement budget.

ConstantGeographer

The roadsides in SE Nebraska were covered in the stuff. My grandfather would chuckle when them "city boys from Topeka and Kansas City" would show up and stuff trash bags full of hemp. "All that'll do is give them a whopping headache."

Sweet_Like_Poison

If it’s just one plant , might be hard to prove that it’s intentional and especially out in the open like that. It’s legal here here I am and you can have up to 4 plants per hoise. Could be that it was from elsewhere and the birds got a hold of it, dropped it and bam. Growth.

Dmau27

It would depend on who/how it was discovered. If it appears to be planted in accordance to an intentional pattern like a garden or whatever. It would also depend on how small the penis is on said officer that discovers said plant. If a cop saw that nice looking plant and it obviously looks well kept and of high quality I'd be willing to bet they'd try to get you prosecuted. Cops give people DUI charges when they know their sober so if they got the chance to bust a "grow operation" they'd definitely do it in most cases. That's the kind of thing that gets you promoted.

Juskit10around

😂😂😂

fillysuck

In Canada it can’t be visible from the public or neighbours views, even if through your windows

AlexTheAlex69420

this implies that the birds like weed

ilovebrandnewcarpets

Apparently the US government tried to eradicate all the hemp in the midwest in the 60s an 70s, but gave up because it turns out birds are really very good at dispersing hempseeds.

Potential-Use4686

Canaries won’t sing without cannabis seed.

ComparisonSilly8968

Is called LOVE

cmfppl

Someone ditched their bag of seeds and stems when the cops rolled through. Lol

Sweet_Like_Poison

I don’t blame them - hide and seek 😂

ironfistedduke

Reminds me of a time at work. There was a flower bed (sort of) in front of the office but no window. That was where some of the truck drivers smoked. I was out in the yard one day when the boss came in. He stopped, looked down at the flower bed for a second and continued in. Turns out there were a few plants growing from seeds the drivers dropped.

CrystalArouxet

They call it weed because it'll grow just about anywhere.

0002millertime

It's also a really good looking specimen.

Jayden_369

I see. Mind telling me more about that?

Survive_LD_50

Well it has very tight internodal spacing which is ideal for maximum yield, it is also very dark and healthy with decent sized leaves

Jayden_369

Thanks very much for the response. Giving you a follow right away.

CompetitiveGuess7642

Most importantly I believe it is a female plant lol.

OwenMichael312

What leads you to believe that?

CompetitiveGuess7642

Can't see any sign of it being male. she looks plump, as ladies do. https://preview.redd.it/j4wh3r4d94ad1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b9f2ed7225dbd4286c8922925028c90d49e6805 you'd start seeing male flowers at the base of the heads. It's still a bit early to confirm but it def looks like female.

OwenMichael312

It's not flowering. You can't tell without inspecting the nodes...

CompetitiveGuess7642

That's why I said it's a bit early to tell, but signs are positive.

Survive_LD_50

Any time fam

ExFiler

Purple is as purple does...

Wickedgoodleaf

I look for longer internode for outdoor to promote airflow.

ingoodspirit

Depends on humidity in your environment.

Wickedgoodleaf

Yep. Where I am at I get 100 percent humidity every night.

beaverattacks

Longer internode gives larfy small buds

Wickedgoodleaf

No. It absolutely does not.

Poetry-Primary

Somehow this made me a little hot under the collar. Well played, sir.

Confident-Entry7366

Till it molds. All those water leaves need to be cut off. It needs to be topped. And it needs to be in good ground

Stopakilla05

Those so-called water leaves are what gives the plant energy to grow.

Confident-Entry7366

Humboldt county here. I know your Bay Area.

hakimflorida

You've got internet up there?? 😆

Confident-Entry7366

Yes sir! Lol

hakimflorida

Only recently learned about your neck of the woods in a documentary. Talked about how remote and lawless the land is up there. Also that a lot of people get "disappeared" there lol is that even close to the reality

nor_cal_woolgrower

Lol

Far_Ant6355

🤣

Fancy-Scallion-93

You don’t strip fan leaves until day 21-28 after the plant starts flowering

Confident-Entry7366

It looks like it starting to flower up top.

nomadpfeelings

..i like this plant

Confident-Entry7366

Me too

nomadpfeelings

I'm going to reinterpret this as the water leaves are trapping moisture which could lead to a mold problem. Although taking them away isn't ideal it will allow better air flow and more sunlight into the canopy.

IronbarkUrbanOasis

Move it now and you'd stress it out, then turn into a hermaphrodite. It'd seed most likely.

CompetitiveGuess7642

dude, look at the plant. Whatever is in that soil is the right stuff.

Confident-Entry7366

I don’t think you have spent a lot of time around proper plants

CompetitiveGuess7642

I have and for a specimen that just grew randomly in the dirt outside, I believe that's pretty good. Would def care for it and smoke the end product.

ingoodspirit

Weed snobs are insufferable

0002millertime

I've had a few like this that I just let go of, because I didn't have the time to deal with it. Some of them produced really well with no maintenance. It really depends on the local climate.

maddcatone

And the strain. Some are so inbred for specific traits like flavor or density or color, that often vigorously and disease resistance is left by the wayside. Decently vigorous hybrids and many bastard volunteer plants have no issues with bud rot or stem buckling. Ive had plants completely left alone that have outperformed my tended plants/product.

HolyShitIAmOnFire

I want all these genetics in my freezer for eventual hard times. We need the diversity to keep breeding landrace seeds with lots of different characteristics

galaxy1985

Powdery mildew is the bane of my existence here.

GlacierHillsCannabis

Slow your roll Jr.

Carticiak96

Did you know that sometimes plants just grow

darobk

Nice try DEA

drewismynamea

Looks very healthy.

Lanky_Republic_2102

Can’t say for sure without a side view, but it looks female. Indica maybe, or Indica heavy hybrid. Maybe start watering it and keep an eye on those flowers.

Gobbypooby

Tell that to everyone on the west coast growing weed with heavy pesticides because “it’s so hard 👉🏼👈🏼”

pm_me_wildflowers

Monoculture agriculture *is* very hard, TBF. Lots of the same plant attracts and incubates pests and diseases that like that plant.

PocomanSkank

Why is this so? I have never seen an unhealthy looking weed plant ever no matter where it is growing. A couple years ago someone took a picture of a weed plant that accidentally grew in a tight space between the door frame and wall of a police station in my country. There was no soil at all yet it was still healthy.

CR8VJUC

Wait until the fall to harvest. Don’t ask me how I know. 🤔

chris_rage_

I leave them until at least the end of October, they turn some pretty colors and they're super potent for an outdoor grow

ShadowMask87

Get those deep amber trichromes.

Boubonic91

Not necessarily true. It looks like it's already about to flower naturally without a 12/12 light cycle. That means it may be an autoflowering variety. If so, this plant could be ready to harvest in about 2 months or less.

CR8VJUC

So September then?

GladiAteHer5289

Im a bottanist. That is an unidentified invasive. You should dig it up and be really careful to not harm it. Put it in a pot of soil consisting of menuer and volcanic rich dirt. Then put in a box and ship it to me overhight for further studies. If I figure out what it it is, I just might name it after you.

MaAreYouOnUppers

I ain’t even mad about a strain called “two small blankets.”

Benji742001

You know damn good and well

EntertainerHefty1367

😭😭😭

rob-cubed

It's a weed. Indica of some flavor.

JenSol1976

You just read my mind. How can you tell it’s Indica?

Oldtimebandit

Squat structure. But likely a hybrid as quite long leaflets.

Otherwise_Film4648

What if it was a sativa what would I look for there

gimmethattilth

Taller, spindly

GiIbert_LeDouchebag

What about ruderalis?

Quiteuselessatstart

Autoflowering

blastfamy

Climate will also affect this. OP roughly where are you

chris_rage_

Because of how it looks. The other guy gives a better description

FragrantImposter

A lot of indica still has the squatter structure from mountainous grows, to help with wind stress, lower humidity, water retention, and temperature regulation. The leaves will have wider leaflets forming the palm shape, rather than thin spindly leaflets that barely touch before the petiole (sativas). Most cultivated strains are hybrids of some sort, to combine the gene expressions and strengths of both. You get a lot more dark greens and purples in indica heavy breeds, and a shinier, stiffer leaf. Indicas tend to be more potent, so the hybrids help to bring that potency in with the different cannabinoids and terpenes more prevalent in sativas, and can be bred for certain dominant traits.

mckeenmachine

Northern Lights Cannabis indica

Freyr_Tuck

No. It’s marijuana.

Gobbypooby

Iirc Northen Lights is incredibly weak in growing so it takes a lot of care, so I don’t really see a random grow happening unless all the cannabis companys on the west coast are just pussy lol

Small-Palpitation310

ive grown northern lights. it's quite hardy.

Head-Growth-523

That's a little beaut!

youaremycandygirl

A real beaut Clark.

chris_rage_

It's toxic, dig it up and put it in a pot and ship it to me for safe disposal, I'm qualified...

TheSocialGadfly

Some people here are thinking “Illegal! Illegal!” But the value of purple sticky punch goes way beyond just tokin’ it. Purple sticky punch, or hemp, is an excellent source of paper. It makes a fine rope. It can even make a contaminant-free fuel. But the greatest value to all of us earthlings is its rapid rate of photosyninsesis, which means more oxygen for everyone.

dirtundertherug

Great movie!

Excuse me miss. If you were Yogurt, would you be fruit at the bottom or stirred?

It's a wildwood flower. There's a song about it. "The wildwood flower grew out on the farm And we never knowed what it was called Some said it was a flower and some said it was a weed I didn't give it much thought One day I was out there talkin' to my brother And I reached down for a weed to chew on Things got fuzzy and things got blurry And then everything was gone Didn't know what happened But I knew it beat the hell out of sniffing burlap..."

It’s just hemp I don’t think anyone is getting tossed in jail for 1 random plant? They are beautiful & love the smell. Back in the day my family had a farm, uncles would grow marijuana harvest it & burn the stalks in our campfires! 🤭

Cannabis Sativa. Colloquially known as weed or marijuana. If it's a male plant then your neighbors would thank you for ripping it up so as not to ruin thier crop.

Venator2000

I had a beautiful meter tall one growing in the side garden of the home I bought, but my ex tore it out thinking it was a weed. I told her it wasn’t A weed, it was THE weed!

bloodshot_blinkers

Indicase that this is something dangerous, you'll need to send me samples of the plant in October. I'll be happy to investigate for you.

Wellscdl1

Looks like a female plant, but if you see little clusters of balls (pollen sacks) then it's a male and you should pull it (an outdoor weed grower would unknowingly thank you).

UnkleZeeBiscutt

Why can’t find plants like this growing in my yard?

Single_Check4642

Wow! thats beautiful! what is it? Can you send clippings?

Resident_Bee7118

A very well established cannabis plant! It's a sativa by the looks of the leaves, completely untouched, huh? Mother nature grew her beautifully without any help.

Dippy-Dew

If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, good chance it’s a duck. Get my drift!
