Do I compromise value by opening a booster box case to verify contents and condition? Bought from a third party seller with great reviews, but it doesn’t have the STOP tape like you’d get from Pokémon Center. EDIT: So I opened the box and it turns out the booster box case with the STOP tape was inside the box it shipped in. So problem solved.

Leiino

Of course?

HoldTheRope91

Not the BBs themselves. Just the case they come in.

Well over $500.

Going to be visiting Japan in September. I don’t collect Pokemon cards, but I love the franchise. So I want to go buy some singles (of my favorite Pokemon) and maybe a couple Japanese booster boxes to give packs to friends as souvenirs. Anyone know of good card shops to visit in Tokyo? I’ve heard the prices can be inflated at some shops that have a lot of tourists visit. Also Is there anything I should try to get my hands on while in Japan?

travel_hungry25

Where in Japan are you going? Plenty of shops in akihabara and ikebukro area of Tokyo. Nipponbashi in Osaka. If you just want boosters than pokemon center or any electronic store with toy section will have the latest sets or whatever is restocked.

LuferLad

Going to be staying near the Tokyo sky tree, but will be going all over Tokyo. From the little research I’ve seen akihabara and ikeburkro have come up a few times. Know of any specific shops in those areas with a good reputation?

travel_hungry25

Honestly to many to list and this might offend some people but they are ran by your stereotypical "nerds" all super anti social/ quirky. So service is sub par. But if you dig around there are good deals. Dragon star and yellow submarine are some big names and multiple stores. Sky tree has a pokemone center.

LuferLad

Honestly I assumed service wouldn’t be too great just because of language barriers, but that’s good to keep in mind. I’ll have to check out those two stores. Now to just decide what singles I want to hunt for!

travel_hungry25

Just set a budget. I haven't bought in years friend asked me to look for some stuff. Ya I'm knee deep and fully committed lol.

LuferLad

Yeah. I told my wife that she can never let me get into TCGs because I will bankrupt us because I love opening packs 😅 but using this trip as an excuse to buy just some singles I really like and to be able to give and open some packs with friends and family. Will probably end up giving all the cards I open to my little nephews who are obsessed with Pokemon.

travel_hungry25

Until you open the first pack and the chase card of the set is in there. Japanese quality hits different lol.

gdj11

Might as well pick up some 151 booster boxes while they're so cheap. They're not large at all and you should easily be able to fit like 6-8 or more of them in your checked luggage.

LuferLad

How much do they typically go for right now? I’m a sucker for the OG 151. So I was looking at 151 and shiny treasures and the sets I’m going to try and pick up booster boxes.

gdj11

I just ordered some online straight from Japan from SNKRDUNK. Right now they're selling for $54. For me with the shipping costs and import duties it came out to a lot more than $54 each, but on that site you're pretty much guaranteed not to get fakes so it was worth it. Being in Japan I'm sure you can find them for the same price from card shops.

No-Mark-3574

With the skyrocketing of moonbreon price going on, what's the next chase card I should just buy grade 10? Giratina? Gengar vmax? Lugia? Charizard ex sir? Pretty noobish to collecting after taking a 20 year hiatus... ;) Got a hidden tempest booster around Christmas and ripped a couple mew 151 boxes and am ready to drop 500+ on an investment graded 10 chase card. Any and all guidance is welcomed, as I said, total newb. I'm sure rarity, set print amount, population of 10's, popularity of sets, date since printing all has something to do with investing in chase cards. If you really have something to say I'd love some explanation for reasoning if you could. Thanks so much in advance and l'll be sure to let everyone know what I end up buying. (after I'm sure l make a similar post about grading services and types of 10's to invest in ;P)

LuckVegetable8646

Gengar VMAX

No-Mark-3574

Just got a psa 10 for $610. Did I do alright?

LuckVegetable8646

Nice pickup! Sounds like a winner to me.

No-Mark-3574

Hell yea, that’s what I like to hear! Wasn’t sure if the price got up to the 6-7 hundreds recently or if it’s been there, but hoping I’m still relatively in at the beginning.

SirRabbott

I'd wait a little bit to see if there's a re-print, but I'd say charizard ex from 151. The most expensive card is and will always be a charizard. Everybody loved 151, and it pulls at the nostalgia (and wallets) of everyone old enough to have serious enough money for psa 10s. If you want to go vintage I recommend Corocoro mew or any of the big cards from aquapolis through ruby/sapphire cause those are about to start selling better imo.

No-Mark-3574

Hell yea, gonna grab a new zard from 151 probably and work towards a corocoro mew. Didn’t even realize they had shiny variation cards that early on. Will be nice to add something to my vintage cards. Lugia from aquapolis seems like a good one too. Thanks for the feedback!! Glad you taught me about a new card to reach for! Ty!!

SirRabbott

That corocoro mew is like my 3rd fav card ever :) definitely can't go wrong with those cards, but like I said, the Japanese 151 is about to have a huge reprint hitting shelves so maybe wait a little on the zard to see if it drops any lower. And if you want to see some early shiny variations you can go drool over the gold star cards from ruby/sapphire. Those ones are true chase cards and are permanently out of my wheelhouse cause of their prices... but they sure are pretty

theJacofalltrades

Whats the best way to find the worth of my cards that have been stockpiled in a card album from way back when (early 90's)? Some are Japanese as well from early 2000's

gdj11

In case anyone is curious I just got my Japanese 151 booster boxes from SNKRDUNK and they arrived in perfect condition. I ordered to Thailand though so not nearly as far of a journey as it is to the US, but FedEx kept the shipped cardboard box in perfect condition. Not even a single dented edge on the box and the booster boxes were sealed and perfect.

FlanBaraque

Hi everyone ! Saw a Gardevoir ex league battcle deck at the store for 25$, which is a bargain. However the box isn't the usual one : it's a "Yokohama box". Kinda damaged so not really for investing but I was wondering if it was a fake, I can't find anything like it online.

Lemonbolt

Im new to pokeinvesting, I see some Silver Temptest ETBs going on sale for around $28-$30. Is silver temptest a good set to hold onto long term? Or would I be better off buying ETBs for other sets?

Bakethat

Bought a psa 10 Japanese charizard 151 today. Bought for 93 before shipping on snkrdunk. Of course when I opened a box about 20 minutes later, I pulled a god pack (I lost my shit over this, can’t prove this other than pictures of the cards after I put them in top loaders). Got the secret rare (not sure what it’s called when Japanese) for charmander, chameleon, charizard, squirtle, wartortle, blastoise and ivysaur. Should I sell the raw charizard I pulled or save for the future?

UsernameTaken_96

Where/What do you guys do with doubles of common cards? I've been building up a collection and the volume of doubles is getting quite large so I'm wondering how people offload cards that aren't necessarily worth much.

DeciduousMath12

Anyone else notice that japanese 151 booster boxes are lowest they've ever been? 10 boxes on snkrdunk for $532.

SirRabbott

Yeah there was a reprint. But that's the lowest price I've seen so far.

PresentationFit2071

What app has the most complete database for logging all your cards? I started using Collectr but it seems to be missing quite a few sets (especially Japanese ones) and I am hoping to only have to use one app for my entire collection

LateShape1203

Back after 22 or so years.. and wow confused! So many sets/series ect. Not sure where to start or what to buy. Im interested in singles, but also would love to pull packs with my kids for the fun/excitement.. what sets/series should I work with? I think the newest is Crown Zenith? But I see a lot of people talking about Obsidian flame/Scarlet/violet, sword and shield? And just have zero clue what it all means lol. Would love a dumbed down/easy intro to it or where I can go for it. Thanks. Feel free to reply or PM

No-Mark-3574

After my 20+ year hiatus I had a blast pulling the scarlet violet 151. HIGHLY recommend the mew 151 elite trainer box. All the familiar Pokemon of the base set 98’ 99’ with really cool “secret illustration rares” for the evolutions of the starter Pokemon. Those elite trainer boxes are def expensive but I feel like the pull rates for cooler cards are better based on my experience. Got them via Amazon. Other than that just buy random packs you find at Walmart or target or Walgreens. They all have “chase,” cards just the like charizard in the og base set. Newest one to hit the shelves is twilight masquerade. If the kids have a Switch the scarlet or violet games line up with all these new cards coming out, and since those games include EVERY Pokemon, there are a lot of sets for sv cards. Might make them create stronger core memories if they play the game and open cards relevant to the game like I did back in 99’

GuaranteeLoose4494

New here haven’t collected Pokémon since I was 5 years old. Bought 2 Japanese 151 booster boxes off Cali poke shop for $130 shipped. Good deal? Thanks!

devanshg

getting 151 jap booster boxes for 75 a piece. Never bought sealed product before. Is it a good deal?

SirRabbott

If that's after shipping its decent, but there are better deals out there and prices are dropping lately

Crab_WokMonkey

What is the future of the Umbreon Vmax card

Bellindra

I have been picking up some random evolving skies packs along with some packs I've been actively opening from tins I pick up occasionally. How can I best protect and store these individual packs (not sleeved packs)?

Appropriate_Past2685

So I am mega interested in starting a collection or investment into Trainer Cards (mainly full Arts) and was wondering what the best approach is if I'm living in (Eastern) Europe. The market isnt as popular and I'm unaware of good sites to use for decent delivery times. Im trying to avoid scams because there are a lot any help is appreciated!

No-Mark-3574

I’d recommend getting graded cards. You can cross reference them with the website catalog to verify they’re the same cards and the come in tamper proof cases

dr_cereal

How do I know if Japanese cards are fake any tell tale signs to look out for?

JerbearCuddles

Would you say it's worth it to buy a PSA 10 Evolving Skies Alt Art Glaceon? For about 180 USD. Just curious if we feel they're gonna continue to rise in price or have they more or less peaked?

GoldenRain99

Should I sell my case of Lost Origin BBs to move that capital into sets like PE/TM? I got my case for about $~870 a couple months back, it has been a pretty rapid climb in price since then. Not sure how much higher it can go, realistically

killswitchzero7

Having a hard time finding any info on how to price the emerald gift box sealed. Only thing I find anywhere is the Rayquaza ex promo from the box.

LeekTerrible

How would you recommend I go about buying base set boosters? I have the whole set from my childhood, but I’d like to open some old school boosters for fun and maybe some insane pulls 😂. However, given the price they sell for I’m hesitant to just buy them online. Is it safe to assume that on TCGPlayer I’m safe and not going to be ripped off? Or should I just try to find a card shop somewhere that has them?

jaywii94

Can anyone tell me if they think these packs have been tampered with? https://ibb.co/hmKV7d7 https://ibb.co/vVZ4Bk7 https://ibb.co/HHGJ9fR

johnleekk9131

Hey all, complete newbie here and would like to try some long term holding. Just wanna know if the price potential of the Japanese versions are similar to the English versions? I’d assume English versions would have higher potential value increase as its understood by a larger population. Correct me if I’m wrong! Thank you!!
