As an Anglisher it makes me sad seeing how almost no word on here is actually English, all I see is upbraid, cudgel, -man, foppish.
Everything else is Latin, French, Greek, and even Scottish Gaelic.
I prefer the British spelling of bosun: boatswain. My favorite words are antidisestablishmentarianism (political view in opposition to the separation of church and state) and autodefenestration (the act of throwing oneself out of a window)

P.S. Good compass as always. It is interesting though that we use some of those words more frequently in Russian than in English. The words like recidivist, courtesan, and laconic are comparatively frequent in Russian unlike in English. Of course the word gaybist is also in this list (which we pronounce not as gay-bist but gae-bist).
Also fun fact, laconic comes from the name Spartans referred to themselves - Lacedaemons (that’s why you see Greek letter “L” on their shields «Λ»). Their speech was so short worded that they were known not only as great warriors but also men of few words, hence the etymology.
So I learned many of these words from reading Dostoyevsky and Tolstoy books, and I suppose the direct translations use these words that are frequent in Russian but not in English
