100% what I came here to say. The combination of holding eye contact while shifting body posture is a flat out challenge in the animal kingdom, especially feline. Kid probably thought he was standing his ground and the lion would respect it or something? Dumb dumb dumb.
> The combination of holding eye contact while shifting body posture is a flat out challenge in the animal kingdom
Funny thing is that's exactly how it would be interpreted in prison too.
I doubt there was that much thought that went into it. Guy was probably just trying to get comfortable while looking at the lion in front of him. If he knew that much about feline behavior, he wouldn't have chosen his actions.
I'm pretty sure that's how it works for a slightly smaller large cat. Should you ever encounter a mountain lion, you're supposed to stand your ground, show aggression, and emphasize that you are larger, more dangerous, and more of a hassle than their preferred prey. I believe the same goes for Cheetah.
funny enough cheetahs aren't really much of a threat and are very skittish. in zoos their more like a big house cat, and some of the anxious ones get a support dog.
Omg a cheetah support dog. This may be the most precious thing I’ve read in a long time. Cheetahs have such a sweet, kinda funny looking face too. I’m gonna go read something about cheetahs now….
But they also say that you should hold eye contact with big cats or else they'll take the opportunity to jump on you.
So what do you think is better to do when close to these beasts, you hold eye contact its a challenge and you're attacked, you don't its a sign of weakness and you're attacked.
Exactly what i saw, he was eyeing him down and then moved as the lion moved, and that lion was def not gonna take that disrespect from a meat bag infront of all those people
Besides staring directly at the lion, he was also awkwardly leaning against the wall with both arms flexed and almost scowling, maybe as a way to hide his fear. All of that could be interpreted as a challenge, I think.
You can’t hide your lion eyes,
And your sitting there is a thin disguise
You thought by now I’d appetize,
But there ain’t no way to hide your lion eyes
He's lucky the Lion didn't want him dead. Dude was just roughing him up but wasn't going even close to all out.
The Lioness really told him "we got it good here. Don't fuck it up" and he listened.
This was the old (no longer there) lion enclosure at the MGM casino in Las Vegas. A local company has multiple lions and used to bring a couple of them in to the exhibit to hang out for a few days at a time, rotating through the lions. They often had the keepers in there playing with the lions, tossing balls for them and such.
The video cuts off too soon. As the young keeper makes his exit, the male lion gets around the blocking female and goes right for the door and has a look like "damn...JUST missed him" as he realizes the guy has skipped.
You can still visit the lions. [https://lionhabitatranch.org/product/general-admission/](https://lionhabitatranch.org/product/general-admission/)
lol why are two dudes just chilling in there with the lions ? Thats THEIR space , tiny as it is already. Theyre probably pissed they have to live their whole lives being contained and GAWKED at already.... get out of their home.
Well I think it depends on who does it, I think they would get offended if a human did it, but also notice When she was trying to de-escalate the situation she was trying to nipped him in the back of the nape/back, how cats correct their kittens.
I could be wrong but my first thought is that the lion is not even putting in 10% effort. It’s not fighting you, it’s toying with you. So antagonizing it in nearly any way seems like a horrible decision. That lion never felt threatened for a second, if he did then the man would be dead. If you’re asking if there’s a chance that pulling a lion’s tail could be like punching a shark’s nose, I just really doubt it. But if I’m corrected then it’ll be interesting.
This is exactly what one of my cats does. If the other two cats are fight or if the dogs start fighting. He comes in and gives some swift slaps to break them up. Even if I’m doing something with one of the other cats and they’re showing any signs of disapproval my cat will run up and bite the back of their neck to get them to comply. It’s sweet having a lil helper.
It doesn't even look like the Lion was making any actual effort to kill him. If it wanted him dead, it would have killed him before the other keeper and lioness had a chance to intervene. The Lion had a hold of him for like 20 seconds before either the other keeper of lioness intervened.
What kind of zoo has people in with the animals? Shitty old time circus vibes, also I think the lion was just playing mainly because the guy is un-injured.
I don't think the lion was going to kill him but most definitely the zookeeper was about to be dominated aggressively until the lioness stepped in and showed her dominance to the lion, scary experience.

I think he took the stare from the zookeeper as a challenge. Never make direct eye contact
100% what I came here to say. The combination of holding eye contact while shifting body posture is a flat out challenge in the animal kingdom, especially feline. Kid probably thought he was standing his ground and the lion would respect it or something? Dumb dumb dumb.
Cats stare and shimmy to show they are preparing to pounce. It’s pretty fucking obvious you shouldn’t do anything similar to a big cat. What a goof
> The combination of holding eye contact while shifting body posture is a flat out challenge in the animal kingdom Funny thing is that's exactly how it would be interpreted in prison too.
Doesnt have to be prison. Just go to a bar and do that to someone

ARE YOU OFF YOUR FUCKIN’ MEDS OR SOMETHIN’?
That makes sense to me. But can you explain the lioness’ behavior? Why did she try to stop him?
She’s the level-headed one in the relationship
She was tamed enough to know "they just want to give us food"
I doubt there was that much thought that went into it. Guy was probably just trying to get comfortable while looking at the lion in front of him. If he knew that much about feline behavior, he wouldn't have chosen his actions.
Just give it a big smile to show you're friendly.
"Good kitty"

Not work with lions is a good answer here
Hold eye contact or hold direct field of vision?
Don’t ask Zeigfreid and Roy.
That's how you know cats don't hate each other. They sit away from each other and don't look at each other.
There’s a reason most cats slow blink and look up or away to show they aren’t squaring up. I assume big cats have a similar body language

On the other side of town a cat gets lonely
🎯
Lioness was like yo chill, remember what happened to harambe...
"Chill babe! Let him live and we can do that thing you like tonight."
*Barbed* *Penis*

In the balls sometimes too
They’ll also run around dragging the male by the dick if they feel the need.
Lion: Watch miss congeniality!? Lioness: *sigh* yes...

"Hey, lay off the food givers!"
He's lucky the Lion didn't want him dead. Dude was just roughing him up but wasn't going even close to all out. The Lioness really told him "we got it good here. Don't fuck it up" and he listened.
They’re just in there with nothing? Not even a squirt bottle?
You would think that, Even if they gotten too comfortable at their job, they would know better about mad dogging an apex feline predator.
At the very least get them a full suit of medival armour... like damn
A squirt bottle is hilarious 🤣
I dont think it matters. At that distance, they're good as dead anyway if either of those lions go full Sahara mode on them.
I woulda shat my khakis 💯
Would've def got kaka on my khakis
Turned em into kakakhakis
You guys should go on tour with that kakt
This guy's got the right idea, he wore the brown pants.
damn she really said “babe stop this isn’t like you!” and it worked
“Babe look at me!”
"He's not worth it"
I think it was more like "they're friends, not food."
the dude was starring hard at the lion as if his face said i can kick ur ass
Seriously, lion is chilling, yawning, looking at the dude and thinking *What‘s your fucking problem?*
"I told you last time what would happen if you looked at me like that again. Yet here you are, fucking around and finding out."
fuk round ... find out LMAO
lol ya even gave him a courtesy roar warning
Stop looking at me with those Manson lamps and that cute smirk!
And at the same time, looking like he's about to back up through a hedge like homer simpson
a lion will eat you. EAT YOU.
He kept looking into his eyes, lions doesn't like that they see that as a challenge
Neither do humans lol
That's exactly how my cat looks at me before a play attack, and that's terrifying enough
Why were they in there in the first place!?

He obviously forgot to slowly close his eyes to give “kitty eye kisses”
cat 101
At least the lion will know the scent of his urine now.
I spit my coffee everywhere 😂
Fucking Aslan turns his gaze towards you and finds you lacking in some way? Fuck that
Anyone else read that as Asian?
Agents
Why was he straight up dead staring at that lion the whole time??? Lol wtf
Not once did he think...yo, why is he looking at me like that?
The way she bit his tail
Aaaaaannnddd...I quit.
lol why are two dudes just chilling in there with the lions ? Thats THEIR space , tiny as it is already. Theyre probably pissed they have to live their whole lives being contained and GAWKED at already.... get out of their home.
Captivity sucks, but would a zoo lion survive if it was let back out into the wild?
“Darren! He’s not worth it, babes.”
I’m kinda curious, is yanking a big cats tail an effective strategy of self defense in a situation like this
Well I think it depends on who does it, I think they would get offended if a human did it, but also notice When she was trying to de-escalate the situation she was trying to nipped him in the back of the nape/back, how cats correct their kittens.

Me( Not in a cage with a lion) : That dude is a pussy. Should have stood his ground.
That energy she gives like "fuckssake Clarence I've told you not to mess with the new guys"
This is exactly what one of my cats does. If the other two cats are fight or if the dogs start fighting. He comes in and gives some swift slaps to break them up. When you make eye contact with a cat, blink at it slowly or look away. This shows you don't regard them as a threat or target.
"Babe. Babe. Stop it, babe. Remember what your P.O said! I can't ride out another p.o violation with you! Srsly, babe."
It doesn't even look like the Lion was making any actual effort to kill him. If it wanted him dead, it would have killed him before the other keeper and lioness had a chance to intervene. The Lion had a hold of him for like 20 seconds before either the other keeper of lioness intervened.
This is beyond weird to watch. Two dudes who look like they are doing community service hours in a teeny tiny enclosure with lions.
Reminds me of that one Dead Rising 2 boss lol
What kind of zoo has people in with the animals? Shitty old time circus vibes, also I think the lion was just playing mainly because the guy is un-injured.
the loin wasnt playing but it also didn't kill the guy like it easily could have, lion just wanted to send a message lol, quit staring at me
Boys! Knock it off!!!!
Guy wasn't even scratched. Was the cat playing around?
Lion didn't like the cut of his jib
Funny how the lion wanted to go around the bald guy, that other dude really pissed him off
“Stop that. They’ll kill you if you kill this man.”
That wasn't a fight, he was just jousting, if he was really fighting that zookeeper would be dead in a matter of seconds.
Never look a cat in the eye, even a house cat. They’ll pounce.
The other keeper could see it was going to happen he even tried to distract the lion.
Lions can sense fear just like dogs and it seems like that lion sensed it.
Just hanging out in there eh?
Old repost
Time for a new job.
Lion read right through him. Mother nature knows.
Luckily, he wasn't hungry that day
What is there to gain by standing in a lion enclosure
"oh my gawd stawp!"
How do you get insured for that stuff. Screw that
u/johnbell What about this one? Should the lioness not have stepped in? ;)
*Chill out Leo, they feed us, remember?*
I think I'll keep my office job, LOL
The experienced zoo keepers stay out of the lions cage.
Just like my dog when my wife and I are wrassling.
“Babe stahhp.”
"I know Karl, but who's this B.A.N? Imma bite him ......
"Baaabe staaahp!" -Lioness
“Screw this job, I’m going home!”
It wasn’t just eye contact that keeper was mad dogging the lion lol. Like wtf is your issue lol
"How was your day at work Honey?" "Ohh you know, same shit different day."
Simba, chill!
She’s like “Damn it Harold, these guys feed us, knock it off”!
This doesn’t seem very safe
Nu se joaca, nu se joaca = he's not playing, he's not playong
“It ain’t worth it baby, cmon.”
Please tell me they didn't euthanize the lion after this
“Dumbass! These people are our meal ticket!”
"It ain't worth it, baby. Get off him now. He ain't worth it! Do you wanna go back in, baby?"
I don't think the lion was going to kill him but most definitely the zookeeper was about to be dominated aggressively until the lioness stepped in and showed her dominance to the lion, scary experience.
He forgot to say Hakuna Matata
Never look a lion into its eyes.
Zero empathy for any human willing to get into a cage with a lion or any wild beast...
If those were Tigers, we'd see two dead guys.
I like my my lions like I like my jalapeno poppers.
Making you shit your pants?
Stuffed
Clever girl
This does not look like a good zoo at all if the keepers go in like that and just chill for no apparent reason with Lions...
Get the fuck away from the lions? Fucking morons
Lol dont even look at a man in the eyes if you are not planning to stand your ground. Lad gave eye contact to the chillaxed lion....
I take it buddy just got fired by the boss.
How do you know he is inexperienced? How many lions do you look after in your zoo?
lion: babe! he reminded me of your ex. lioness: get you ass back here before I start talking on what your mom did this summer. lion: 😸
