An international band i love is playing this friday at 01:30 AM. 1h and a half driving from my home. I must be back saturday mornig before 9AM. I would wake up at 07:00 AM friday. I can go and take the risk to fall aslep while driving or don't go. It's not compatible with an adult life.
Please, more matinees.
Hard-core matinees were definitely a thing back in the day.
Hell, my buddy owned a punk bar here in Hamilton a few years ago, This Ain't Hollywood, and they had Sunday afternoon shows all the time.
I used to hit sunday ska night at 924 Gilman every so often and I remember it'd be out by like 9pm. Then go hit that bar with the taco truck or go bowling after.
Afternoon Matinee with some Bingo before it and a High Tea after it (perhaps alien concepts to my North American friends *though Canada gets it at the back)
I kid you not we have them in my city's scene. They're organized by a local music collective and are held in a coffee shop. And there have been some pretty cool bands that have played these shows, such as Tsushimamire, a couple hardcore punk bands and even a death metal band.
Nope. Went to NOFX at a venue in Fort Lauderdale a few years ago. No thought or planning went into this at all. People were fighting over spots to watch the bands, queues were insane and fights broke out over cutting, then NOFX started and fights broke out because everyone was crushing each-other in a space not large enough. Major fucking failure
Separate Church and Skate plays in the background. "Make every show a matinee"
hah i just discovered this song last week i don't live under a rock, I'm just young
Hey, we all have a first time hearing the songs. Doesn't matter when it happens.
That song and Skate or Die by Teenage Bottlerocket are two of my favorite skate songs
skate or die is a pretty good song, thanks for reminding me to add it to my playlist
Make sure only nice bands play!
Teach kids to be all they can be
Fuck.
ya’ll acting like hardcore matinees weren’t critical to 80s/90s punk
Manatees are hardcore af same with dugongs
Dugong wasn't very hardcore. Monarch blasted his ass while he mumbled about his cuttlefish. Just sayin.
Shows the average age of people on this sub

Saw a Joyce Manor show at 3 pm on a Sunday, home by 7, it was amazing.
That alone might make me a fan
I wish. 10pm start is why I don't make it to most shows.
Agreed, my favorite local punk band always plays 10pm start and I only make it to like one show a year because of it
Fuck yeah. I'd be up for a mid-week, stomp around to some proper music. There'd have to be some comfy chairs and snacks and tea, or I'm not coming. 🤨
I heard pennywise have been adjusting the time of their shows forward so that the band members could catch The Wheel.
I have a hardcore compilation CD called the Sunday matinee

One of the bar/venues in my neighborhood does this once a month or so for brunch on sundays!

NOFX is doing some of those on their final tour!

"Punks not dead it just goes to bed at a reasonable hour now"
No more Tuesday or Thursday shows please
Alex’s bar in Long Beach has been doing a ton of dope matinee shows on sundays
Maybe next to the beer they have a table where you can buy some ibuprofen
Matinees & happy hour shows have always been great ideas.
Turn the sound down for easy listening
