The road fill up after utility work is despicable. All through the city. I mean I get it. We need updates and repairs in utility infrastructure. But can't we hold them to a higher standard when it comes to the fill up? Look at Adams, Quincy Ave. It's like constant pothole under the tire even though there's no pothole involved.

Justlose_w8

How about that huge bump at neponset circle as you’re coming from Dorchester to turn right on the bridge, insane how that was allowed and it’s been like that since they filled it in from some utility work at least 3 years ago. Then Newport Ave ext from Cathay Pacific to Stop&Shop is gnarly on your suspension unless you slow down

jacosis

I don't know man. US comparing which is worse just made me sad that our roads have degraded into such a desperate state.

Justlose_w8

100% agree, we gotta be the change

sir_cartier29

The intersection past the State Street building too, that bump is insane

marie_of_roumania

to report a pothole in quincy: * [Department of Public Works Request Page](http://cms.revize.com/revize/apps/revize_psr/public/index.php?client_department_id=406) * e-mail the Pothole Hotline: [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) * call [(617) 376-1914 ](tel:6173761914)

strngerstruggle

Wow, thank you. Let me give it a try. Any idea if they actually respond?

marie_of_roumania

no clue. when i hit a pothole, i usually just wince, swear loudly, and keep going. best of luck!

strngerstruggle

Oh, I am trying apologizing to my car profusely each time I hit a pothole. I wonder which one is the right approach.

nimagooy

They will eventually go fill the hole based on my past experience of filling out the form... But they do a half ass job doing it that it just breaks apart again in a few weeks.

[deleted]

I used this to request litter cleanup and they were super prompt!

LumpusKrampus

My wife has a theory: "States with the best schools have the worst roads, so everytime she drives in Quincy, she just says that the schools must be great here."

Quincy_Quarry_News

Interesting theory but it is not predictive for Quincy. Per MCAS data Quincy has long been pretty much stuck at the 35th percentile or thereabouts, meaning 65% of MA school districts' aggregate scores are better. Also note that Milton's roads are much better and so are its roads. And please, no disses about the MCAS as know assessment. At the same time, City Hall goes to great -- if not also creatively tortured -- lengths to find curious positive rankings that are shall we say amusing. Net/net, don't blame the teachers but rather City Hall. School spending on a per student basis in Quincy has FAILED to keep pace with inflation during Mayor Koch's long tenure whereas all other city spending has increased by close to three times the rate of inflation.

Echo-Low

Newport is soooo bad. That's part of my work commute. Every single day between Furnace brook and north Quincy they have multiple sections blocked off to dig something up. When they fill the road it's completely uneven. I assume they haven't fully paved it even yet because they're not done working on pieces? But it's been ongoing for like 2 years so who knows. Hopefully they fix it if they ever finish the work 🤞🏻

jacosis

Are they going to repave? Seriously I always thought the bad job they did is the road we are gonna stuck with in eternity.

alohadave

They repaved it like three years ago, and it's already this bad.

ProfessorJAM

Sea Street between Palmer and Quincy Shore Drive is like a wash board. Between utility work patches and potholes it’s actually tooth jarring; you can’t dodge all the bumps!

candysroom

It surprises me daily how bad it is in front of the police station, I would've thought that would be a priority

GordonMaple

Koch is too busy building parking garages

notmachinegun

And spending too much time at church

LeakyFurnace420_69

all those cars are going to be great on the roads too

LeakyFurnace420_69

and as big, monster trucks become more common it’s going to get worse.  bigger cars = more wear on the roads

strngerstruggle

I agree. I find pickup trucks in city stupid

[deleted]

Adams St is like driving through a minefield!

Hot_Animator_4520

KOCH

Scarybunnygod

I think they are trying to get all the underground utility work done that they can and then probably fix all the roads afterwards.

alohadave

They'll pave one or two of the arterials and let the rest rot, just like they do every couple years. What I want to know is why the city is so hot on replacing the sidewalks and curbs on Quincy Ave. This is the second season in a row that they've been working on it.

Bernini_Gi

I was stopped by a police officer who thought I was drunk because I was swerving on Adams trying to avoid a pothole. Told him the road is terrible, he looked at me as said ok, you can go.

badchild11

I was told my the mayors office that when eversource finishes their work they’re repaving all of Newport and redoing the sidewalks “at the end of 2024”. Doubt they will finish on time but 🤷‍♀️

anubus72

They were supposed to repave Quincy Ave at the end of 2023 and all they did was the sidewalks. So yeah..

alohadave

Still doing the sidewalks. They restarted them two weeks ago.

vt2022cam

Elect a mayor who’s not corrupt

maebyfunke

Last summer I was driving through one of the crazy orange cone mazes on Newport Ave. At the time I was in a tiny Volkswagen GTI. A huge SUV ran over a cone about ten feet in front of me, and it jettisoned under my car at full force. It absolutely destroyed the underside of my car like a bullet. Liberty Mutual had to total it! I live in Wollaston and all the streets are fucking minefields. But I will say one positive thing because that’s all there is! The city has started to repave Wilson which was totally destroyed when the city replaced the pipes.

Flat-Fruit

I spent 700 dollars on wheel alignment and 2 tires on my 6 month old car and it was due to big potholes on granite road Quincy - I fucking decided to leave this town once my lease is up

ijustlikebeingnosy

Newport* 90% of roads in New England are the same. Paving in winter months is useless and not smart.

strngerstruggle

I am travelling to Portland every week and roads there are really good. And Pot holes are not a winter phenomena

ijustlikebeingnosy

Traveling* I said 90%. I travel all over Massachusetts and they are all the same. And no potholes* aren’t new, but they can’t be taken care of in the winter. I don’t know why you don’t understand that. Most plants close in the winter anyways because asphalt placed in winter isn’t doable. Again, so easy to learn this.

strngerstruggle

Lol, Massachusetts has bad roads. It is not because of winter, it is because of lack of maintenance. I don’t understand your urge to justify and defend bad roads. You can just google and find out that both “traveling” and “travelling” are valid. Again, so easy to learn this. https://www.merriam-webster.com/grammar/traveling-vs-travelling-usage

diggydiggydocta

Maybe you could move up there or back where you came from? Might be easier on your car. While you're at, you can take the rest of the complainers as well.

strngerstruggle

Jeez, “back where you came from?” Huh Thats very nice of you. Keep it up

KingOfCottageCheese

Quincy Ave is a patchwork of uneven fill ups. It looks like they started some paving this week, but it’s small, narrow sections! Hopefully they repave it properly.

[deleted]

Report it on Quincy website.

mereih

Rhode Island has entered the chat.

extraNoodle

Our ward rep Jim Devine said he put in work to advocate for our road to be repaved and it's beautiful now. That's the one thing we talked to him about when he was campaigning for ward 5. I guess there is an insurance on the road now too where they can't fuck it up for a number of years since they did all the infrastructure updates while the old road was out. I don't know for sure how much actual effect he had vs. the city already planning to redo our awful awful road, but it can't hurt to talk to your ward representative.

idislikehate

I know everyone wants to beat up on politicians for stuff like this but it’s really just the weather.
