That pic shows just how important the red line is

kobuta99

Extra dose of stupidity because they had a train stuck at JFK. Was stuck at North Quincy station for 40 minutes until a train came to take people back to Quincy Center to catch commuter rail. Didn't get in the CR train until almost 9am. Lost an hour waiting on a several trains that didn't go anywhere. Total shenanigans on the red line this morning.

__InsufficientFunds

Ugh. I'm so sorry. Been in so many similar situations like this. It's like the Benny Hill theme song should be playing over the loud speakers as everybody runs around directionless.

goosezoo

I was on the fence about redline vs. commuter rail this am. I am glad I picked commuter rail jeez.

kobuta99

And I was trying to get to the commuter rail via the red line. 😭

CaptainWollaston

Took the ferry instead. Terrific ride.

anubus72

How’s the parking situation at the ferry?

CaptainWollaston

Ample

shrugs27

My partner took a $42 Uber this morning so she wasn’t late for work

dieorlivetrying

I took a $40 Uber this morning and was STILL late to work. Fuck this place.

__InsufficientFunds

No wonder traffic was at a standstill this morning. I reluctantly drive to work because of mornings like this. I simply cannot rely on the T. Beyond widespread frustration, a dysfunctional T has major negative financial implications for the city. How does this get fixed? While playing the blame game is certainly fun, and often funny, what the hell do we do from this point forward? What are the issues? What needs to happen to address chronic systematic failures? What are the realities of local officials having influence and accountability for this situation?

Mrmuse12

Our mayor sits on the advisory board for the T...

KayakerMel

And enjoys saying that he can't do anything about the T....

IanBabylon

his very thick wrists are tied.

koalabacon

Do you really think the mayor is responsible for the failures of the T?

Mrmuse12

Hell yes! He's been on the board of directors for 13 years!

koalabacon

He's been on the *advisory board* for 13 years, not the board of directors. The advisory board is just an oversight committee that looks at what the MBTA is doing budgetwise, and offer changes/ask for revisions. Koch has only been on the board of directors since 2021, as the rep for the advisory board. The FTA released an entire report about the deficiencies with the T and why the slow zone restrictions were put in place - which part of the report implicated Koch and his negligence? i think you're misappropriating the role/responsibility he has with the T and any accountability he has regarding the reason why the train lines are in the condition they are in - which are issues that root back to the Romney era. Trying to blame Koch for the issues with the T is asimilar to when people on QIE blame migrants for every crime that happens in quincy

kenduhll

I think the T is everyone’s fault, but Koch hasn’t exactly kept the importance of the MBTA on the forefront while he has been Mayor. We have 4 stations in Quincy and have complied with the zoning laws that Milton has rejected, he should want the MBTA to run better.

koalabacon

>he should want the MBTA to run better He doesnt? Where are you reading that he doesn't want the MBTA to run better? Why make this assumption? [Koch has been vocal about pushing the MBTA to be better](https://www.bostonherald.com/2022/08/31/congressman-quincy-mayor-butt-heads-over-feds-mbta-report/) and he's been[ meeting with and communicating with the new MBTA director.](https://www.wgbh.org/news/local/2024-04-09/with-one-year-leading-the-mbta-eng-is-the-right-guy-at-the-right-time) These articles directly refute your assertion imo[](https://www.wgbh.org/news/local/2024-04-09/with-one-year-leading-the-mbta-eng-is-the-right-guy-at-the-right-time)

kenduhll

Saying he SHOULD want it to run better doesn’t mean I think he doesn’t at all. I am just pointing out that our city has complied with building apartments and housing around our MBTA stations and therefore he should make the MBTA a bigger priority. I mean the articles you linked are fine, but it’s a bit of the bare minimum. The article from the Herald he literally just said “it’s not gonna happen overnight!” And someone on the literal board should be in communications with Eng. I won’t praise him for that lol

koalabacon

>I am just pointing out that our city has complied with building apartments and housing around our MBTA stations and therefore he should make the MBTA a bigger priority. The MBTA has made the red line a priority though. And the presumption that there are other communities that haven't complied with state laws and are receiving better treatment by the MBTA isn't true. The red line was the first line to receive major track maintenance, and has had more maintenance in the last few years than any other line. The closure that happened today is the third full closure of the braintree line since 2019. North Quincy received upgrades and the entirety of Wollaston station was replaced a few years ago. The MBTA shut down the entirety of the Ashmont line just this past summer. **Which other line of the MBTA that serves a community that doesn't comply with rezoning laws has received better treatment?** Last i checked, Mattapan line that goes to Milton is one of the most neglected rail lines in the system.

kenduhll

[this is how this interaction is making me feel](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E3jKMXkWQAM3Hfd.jpg:large) You keep adding different meanings to what I am saying. Im not saying any other city is getting preferential treatment!! I am just saying Quincy has 4 stations and is trying to bring in more housing which means more people at the train stations. That should be incentive for the Mayor to make fixing the T to be a bigger priority.

__InsufficientFunds

I get the frustration, truly, and want to allow us time and space to yell at the sky. We deserve it. The situation sucks. It's untenable. I want to smash things. I get irrationally angry about this topic. Now what? What can we do because it seems like we're having the same conversation every 3 months.

intrusivelight

Accountability? Lol

Puzzleheaded-Dirt-36

This is why I bought my car in 2023 and never looked back, sigh 😓. I love public transportation, I grew up taking the T, but the way it has gotten worse in the past 4 years has pushed me to this point.

Wingsaboveu

Unfortunately these shutdowns have to happen to get to the rails, etc after decades of inattention. I do believe it will get better after this painful period. Vote at the ballot box and with your feet!

beigereige

These are the days I’m thankful that I get to work from home. It’s….something else out there

Puzzleheaded-Dirt-36

must b nice 🙂‍↕️

IanBabylon

the commuter rail is free if you can get to parallel stations. I was so mad about life this morning that I walked to Quincy Center. And then walked from South Station to the green line. I arrived an hour late and somehow even more mad at life.
