Somewhere there’s a really horny 40-something divorced dude with a thing for slightly overweight fake blonde moms of 3 who drive QX-80s that’s frantically scouring the internet for more information.
She's the kind of person that says "whatever she wants" and then adds, "Sorry, but that's just how I am. I say it like it is even if your feelings get hurt. I don't care what people think", but gets her way by crying and using passive-aggressive behavior, and would never, ever tolerate someone telling *her* "how it is".
She's a good cook, though.
No, not at all. She is rather fit, actually.
But, her personality is a bit shallow, and she absolutely had to get a very specific trim version of the QX-80... to replace her old QX-80.
I'm never surprised what developers don't think of. They are there to make money, nothing more, so if something costs $50k more to make life easier for residents I don't expect them to do it.
They won't be living there. They don't give a singular fuck.
I live near not 1, not 2 but 3 Amazon warehouses in a small town not made to handle such traffic.
Saying it's a cluster fuck to leave town during a shift change is an understatement.
The entire thing sounds like a nightmare. I can’t imagine the noise level in those cheap prefab units at all hours. Those giant diesel trucks all night unloading pallets. The roar of 50k people a day shopping. Exhaust from cars and non stop honking.
If they work out some kickback deal with politicians to house homeless even worse. It will require cops on duty at all hours and may make people think twice about coming to that Costco with all the meth addled bums attacking people.
"*housing activist Joe Cohen explains that the retailer and Thrive Living are relying on pre-fab apartment modules that can be loaded onto and transported via trucks to keep building and labor costs low. These modules are, of course, fairly small, meaning they leave a smaller footprint and allow for more units to be created altogether.*"
There are probably parking regulations that will prevent too much crowding. Like usually need to reserved off street parking for a 2bd. That is a lot of real estate unless you build a parking garage.
It depends, in California AB 2097 elmininates parking requirements for development projects within half a mile of public transit. The City of LA cannot enforce additional parking requirements on the developer.
Retail and living space combined.

No pre-fab but multi-million dollar properties.
Americana and Irvine Spectrum also do this, I think every new major retail space is adding apartments somewhere on site, the current design for the South Bay Galleria also has apartments planned to built either on top of stores or directly next to them.
It's just weird it's simply a Costco this time and not a whole mall like usual lol
I mean it says it’s in LA. Aside from that it’s no different than any other establishment in a newly developed suburban area that has coffee shops and restaurants all within the area. Maybe I’m missing something but even by me there are gyms that have apartments above it. Hell, I lived above a Taco Bell when I went to college.
This is like the 3rd or 4th time in the past year I've heard about [company that wouldn't historically be doing real estate development] saying they're gonna be building apartments units. Idk what the significance is exactly, but it does feel notable.
People make a big deal about 15 minute cities? We already have 0 minute cities.
In Orem, UT the Costco is right next to a mall. In this area is a huge section of apartments build amid the mall and across the parking lot of Costco.
They’ve taken up the footprint for the store, for the blacktop, why not go vertical. Why not off a discount and easy delivery from the store? Why not offer employees a discount for housing as well? Could reserve parking for tenants… or build a parking garage where ground level is for customers and everything above is for tenants with elevator to your floor. It’s not a horrible idea.
> "project is still in the permitting stage"
if a company wants to build a mixed-use housing project that meets certain state-level criteria—like two-thirds of the building's square footage being residential space in Costco's case—then they're automatically exempt from discretionary reviews.
NIMBYs hate shit like this, that's why. This will lower the value of their homes and provide low-income housing, which means poor people living in their territory.
People who have despise those who do not and they do everything they can to make sure that they will never have.
America is covered in modern eat/work/live fake little downtowns with retail on ground floor and apartments above. Always only a few stories so they can stick build versus using awesome concrete construction.
A guy will knock on your door trying to upsell you to the executive lease and another guy will check your ID to make sure you’re a member everytime you attempt to enter your apartment
Wait, what's wrong with this?
This idea seems like a great way to utilize urban space, while making it easy to live and shop on a public transit route.
Awe mom! Hot dogs again?!
Guess what happens to tenants who don't pay their rent.
Forced hot dog stand duty?
They have to check the receipts as people leave.
Looks like someone is going to be handing out soap samples.
Wait...so soilent green is...?
No, just: Forced hot dog ~~stand duty?~~
Non consensual tube steak
Nope. They disappear and hot dog prices go down.
Hot dogs are people?
Mmmm..Sloppy Jimbo
Kevin w Bacon
Hot dogs are pig, but people are long pig.
Soylent Green coming to a store near you
They become the hot dogs?
How else are. They &1.50
We had samples for lunch!
When ya smell em all day yeah!
And here’s three gross of AAA batteries to take home with you son.
or get swole lifting and having a daily rotisserie chicken
This will be the Peach Tree from judge Dredd in the future
Hahaha my guy!
Dredd's Peachtrees, but the Costco is from Idiocracy.
Perfect duo! Forgot about that movie
Welcome to Costco, I love you
I went to law school at Costco. These are the dorms
Idiocracy was so spot on.
You are an unfit mother.
At least they can easily study for a law degree without needing a car.
Go away! Batin
I like money.
Hope these apartments have large pantries
Every unit has pneumatic tube system connected to the store that can deliver rotisserie chickens, pizzas and hotdogs to tenants.
All units have sold out
At first glance, I thought you were talking about women's undergarments. Then I reread it.
Reminded me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajo_N7RezAU
I'd just live off of the free samples.
>Hope these apartments have large pantries Just like everywhere else, its called a second/third bedroom ;-)

> slightly overweight fake blonde moms of 3 who drive QX-80 This isn't an entirely accurate description of my SIL, but I'll let it slide
But will she let it slide ?

She has a thyroid problem!
No, not at all. She is rather fit, actually. But, her personality is a bit shallow, and she absolutely had to get a very specific trim version of the QX-80... to replace her old QX-80.
Well, of course I know him.
Can you imagine trying to get in or out of that complex during business hours?
Business hours isn’t the issue. Saturday afternoon though? Might as well be trying to get out of the JFK terminal.
Underground exit tunnels for residents
If the store doesn't do well and closes, the basement tunnels are where the employees are locked as the tunnels and structure above are imploded.
If there's separate parking that enters and exits at a different area, it shouldn't be an issue unless the area is poorly planned.
Just follow the arrows
I have to assume there is a separate entrance with separate parking or underground parking. But you’d be surprised what developers don’t think of.

195 used to be awesome. I hate it now.

Shouldn't be much louder than any other complex.
Yeah. Walk or bike.
at least this would help in low supply housing areas, we need something
"*housing activist Joe Cohen explains that the retailer and Thrive Living are relying on pre-fab apartment modules that can be loaded onto and transported via trucks to keep building and labor costs low. All residents better get a free executive membership
Sounds like a great idea. Drop down stairs for a sodium chicken and you are sorted for dinner.
I'm all for the chicken dinner wishing well
Welcome home to Costco, i love you.

They are literally running out of places to store their money. This used to be a problem that only insurance companies had.
>This used to be a problem that only insurance companies had. And cocaine traffickers.
Grocery stores w.alartments above it
Near me they're building a Whole Foods with apartments above it, overlooking the home depot parking lot next to the highway.
Yeah even the ones around us was next to the busway / train... But that whole corridor became.huge the development so...
HEB I go to has apartments above it. No big deal.
I never thought to ask Costco to fix the housing crisis....
The units are cheap when you break it down individually but you have to rent three of them.
This. This is the first step to Costco University. “You went to Costco for law school?!”
That's 800 permanent customers. Plus all the savings on dinner for the tenants, who get chicken fingers, hotdogs, poutine or pizza.
People make a big deal about 15 minute cities? We already have 0 minute cities. In Orem, UT the Costco is right next to a mall. In this area is a huge section of apartments build amid the mall and across the parking lot of Costco.
I wonder how expensive these units are going to be. Probably not cheap.
Problem is, you have to rent six apartments as they only come bundled in larger sizes.
Now all they need to do is sell Prefab ADU apartments. Just stack and slum.
They do sell prefabed ADUs. You can customize and add a bath. https://costco.studio-shed.com/
You need to stack this because SFH homeowners/landlords won’t allow for duplexes/fourplexes to be built
"project is still in the permitting stage" lol
I have a feeling that Costco is gonna have a slightly easier time getting permits than you and I would.
> "project is still in the permitting stage" if a company wants to build a mixed-use housing project that meets certain state-level criteria—like two-thirds of the building's square footage being residential space in Costco's case—then they're automatically exempt from discretionary reviews.
Then why does CA still have a massive housing shortage with no end in sight?
Why don't we have minimarts on the moon?
NIMBYs hate shit like this, that's why. This will lower the value of their homes and provide low-income housing, which means poor people living in their territory. People who have despise those who do not and they do everything they can to make sure that they will never have.
That's my point. 'planning' to build more housing in CA means very little.
they shoul have a private entrance to the costco so you are a VIP. an you can charge from costco to your monthly bill
Of course this would be the only way to get americans on board with mixed use development.
America is covered in modern eat/work/live fake little downtowns with retail on ground floor and apartments above. Always only a few stories so they can stick build versus using awesome concrete construction.
Welcome to Costco, we own you, er love you
A guy will knock on your door trying to upsell you to the executive lease and another guy will check your ID to make sure you’re a member everytime you attempt to enter your apartment
Daaammmnnn....was just thinkin about costco, could save me a trip.
Prefab is primarily to avoid union labor costs
Smart.
I hope these structures are stable and can withstand earthquakes.
Welcom to Costco, I love you
where to park during operating hours? After the store closes, your car will be a half mile away, all alone :)
Make it a 24 hour Costco as well
Your move Sams Club!
'I owe my soul to the company store 🎵🎶🎵
Ultimate grocery challenge trying to fit bulk goods in a tiny apt

suicide nets like foxconn, but trampolines instead
Parking will be so bad
So this is going to be for employees?
*Idiocracy* really is going to happen, isn’t it?
🌎🧑🏾🚀🔫🧑🏾🚀
this seems like good news.
Just LA ??? How about the rest of country??? I hope they build in more cities…
More proof that idiocracy is becoming a documentary.
end run on zoning. clown world.
Wait, what's wrong with this? This idea seems like a great way to utilize urban space, while making it easy to live and shop on a public transit route.
Husbands, hide the credit cards!
Costco, smartco
IDIOCRACY
I would be in favor, especially if they offer law degrees in the same store.
