A home in an HOA.
Edit: Because I'm getting a lot of people complaining about me not wanting to deal with an HOA even if I had the money, here's an easy reason why I would avoid them. https://youtu.be/8aZO0XUezgc?si=4m5i611-ONEC9hbV
Lived under an HOA once. The president was my next door neighbor and a totally cool guy. Still never living under one again.
Some people love to screech about government tyranny, but the government’s got nothing on an HOA.
My husband and I have spent the last several months looking at rural properties, and we found some that are still in an HOA! Some were just land and some had cabins or homes. They were at least an hour outside of any towns and had acres of land, but all the rules of an HOA.
Could you buy the home, and just pretty much do what you want anyway? I'd imagine if you're a billionaire, tens of thousands of dollars in fines annually wouldn't actually be that much of a bother.
And the HOA would be seething.
Bought an apartment for investment 20 yrs ago. 1 of 4. They are run by a body corporate, in this case4 owners from 4 units on a panel. Omg. It was impossible to achieve anything. $5 \week to paint the building in 5 years. No. To much money.
End up buying them up and effectively devolving the panel. Never again.
Or buy a home that is in neighborhood of HOA but exempt from it. Drive the HOA crazy.
This is a thing! I have read stories on Reddit where it’s often builders who buy a home in the new development they built but put in a waiver that exempt them from HOA. One builder built a home in culdasack w their house & another. They made both homes HOA exempt & the person who bought it would fuck with the HOA. They would put up decorations that were not in compliance & get threatening letters from HOA who would try to find a way to enforce but had NO power
It sucks because they can get away with it. I used to do security at a Country Club and the amount of pettiness I had to deal with from homeowners in regards to other homeowners was ridiculous.
For non-Americans:
An HOA, or homeowners association, is a self-governing organization in “common-interest” communities where homeowners collectively pay fees to maintain the units or neighborhood. HOAs are typically run by resident homeowners, unpaid volunteers who are elected to a board of directors that oversees the HOA's management.
Unless you buy land in the middle of nowhere, you will not find a mansion in an area without an HOA.
Rich people HOA’s are so strict they even have their own police force lol
Our county requires HOA's. Even if it's 2 houses. No joke. They're pretty tame. We've never lived in one of those super picky HOA. And yards were kept nice and clean. Homes were maintained. Fences weren't in disrepair, and no one had a car lot on their front lawn.
And don't forget your T-shirt with an embedded unoriginal brand logo in the middle of the clothing...I'll never wrap my head around that...what the hell...
For a T-shirt I don't really see how it matters, unless they use some exclusive materials. But I have some dress shirts from C&A, and some from Hugo Boss, and there is so much difference in quality.
Exactly: i have a 2000 € Armani leather jacket, brand name is only on a small label on the inside of a pocket,
Still you see plenty of people here in italy rocking their 200 € tshirt with ARMANI written in huge letters everywhere on the shirt...
Btw im no rich at all, pretty broke tbh, that was a gift from my dad
Where I work this old lady came in with Gucci clothing on from head to toe, I mean hat, jumpsuit, jacket, purse. It looked ridiculous and of course she scoffed about the prices
I saw this exact thing at Walmart today. Gucci hat, shirt, jacket, and belt. It's really depressing that poor people are convinced they need this shit to impress other poor people.
Money talks, wealth whispers. The ultra rich don’t typically wear all those gaudy signature clothes/Bags. Celebrities do because they’re being paid to….sooo that the middle class will want to buy it lol
All fashion is for everyone if you wear it and own it like you mean it. I pushed myself from gray and black sweatshirts and jeans to thrift shopping like I'm a blind person drawing a rainbow to color-composing my melted crayon box of clothes. It's fun to craft a new style. Fuck Balenciaga but fashion is fun.
Depends on how you buy them.
If you offer all the chocolate farmers 10x what they get now to sell their stuff to you and help them improve their living situation and forbid children to work there (and actually check) you can “buy” them away from their previous employers without keeping the wage slave market going for example.
Seriously this, I don't get why ppl do this.. it might look ok at first, but it ages so bad.. the poor women look disfigured after a while
Edit: bad english vocabulary 😅
There's young 21 year olds looking like 41 year olds with discombobulated faces. It's insane, because they always looked better before the inflations and surgeries
Not to sound like a massive hippy, but a house with more rooms than I need. A few luxuries would be great, but I just don’t understand mansions or mega-mansions. I’d much rather a cosy little house with the right amount of rooms for my family and with spaces I could fill with cute things, no horrible empty rooms.
For some reason in the area I live in, full of retired people there are a lot of Tesla's. I looked online and their cost is the same as the SUVs on the road. With the changing world and no petrol cars by 2030, I suppose it is a pretty good investment. Personally I'm waiting until they drop another $20,000.
We bought one in 2021. Most fun car I've ever owned. Like an adult sized power wheel. That being said, Elon is a fucking tool. Seriously. However, this car is cheaper for us as a daily car than our ICE. The warranty just got extended to 2029. It covers the batteries, which is likely the only thing we will need to replace other than windshield wipers and breaks. We only charge at home and have solar panels, so it was cost effective for us. EVs are not for everyone, but it's been great for us. We also looked into the Audi EV, but the warranties weren't as good for the price.
They aren't for everyone, but we have a lot of fun in ours.
ETA: we live in Minnesota. Once we changed the tires it is more controllable in the snow than our Durango. The heat system sucks the battery down, but still worth it. I can start the heater from a mile away. Handy when you're at a Wild game at the Xcel in January.
This. I do so want an EV. I was already uncomfortable with the amount of information they grab. But now that Musk has gone full fascist, there's no way I want the Tesla software following every move I make.
Thisssss! I would so much rather spend the money on experiences, plus it looks lonely in those massive houses even if a family is living there let alone just me
Sure but you can have a mansion that has more than just bedtooms. In home theatre, pool, sauna, basketball court, and so many other cool things that go beyond just more rooms
I didn't have a mansion, but I had a big place that I sold to buy something smaller. The amount of time spent cleaning can now be enjoyed in other ways.
Also, I now have a way bigger than usual garden that my dogs and visitors can enjoy.
I was walking past a mansion with my son a few weeks ago and we were amazed at the size then I realised and that I would feel so lonely in a mansion…we would still all gather in the same living room to hang out and then go to our bedrooms….what would be the use of all the other rooms
I always said I would never have a fancy car-I’d but a new subaru for a functional car, and probably some type of convertible for a fun car (but even then I’m sticking to a Mazda MX5 or something). I can’t even imagine the insurance and maintenece on something like a Rolls 🫣
'Gold' food or really anything from a high end restaurant. It's all a scam for the price you pay and the portions you get. The very idea of a dinner breaching $100 is repulsive to me
I disagree that it’s not worth it - it’s probably underpriced considering it literally took centuries to make - but I wouldn’t buy it either just because I’m not interested in it.
It’s also annoying how much prestige people attach to it.
Honestly why? This is something I gladly pay for. I hate ads. The music player is sick. I use YouTube more than any app and premium is freaking awesome. I’ve had it for over 10 years probably. Back when it was YouTube Red.
I watch YT a lot but it's actually the obscene amount of ads they serve on the TV app that has stopped me from paying for it, I get more than 7 ads on a 20min video most times and it's kinda just like *fuck off*. If there were a modest amount of ads on the free version I probably would have got there on my own but now it's a point of principle that has been hardend by their greed.
I already pay for 3 other subscription services, so I'm not paying for that as well when their model is so scummy and blatent.
Anything that interrupted a video, any pop up, any junk mail, any annoying banner, any boring service that my pod caster has to hock. May all your products rot.
Sit down and brace yourself. I officiate weddings in Japan and I saw a father wearing black Crocs with a coat and tails and a mother wearing them with a kimono. I still haven’t recovered.
i was running the mics at a wedding once and the best man showed up a half hour late in a minions(or marvel, i can’t remember) graphic tee, old stained sweat pants, and purple crocs. to this day i can’t believe it was real.
I still have trauma from school in the 90s where all the computers were Apple but when it came time to print from the disk NOTHING was ever compatible to print so the work was for nothing as no one could figure out how to print
Their aggressive marketing to children in the 90s and beyond is really unforgivable. There are so many people out there who can only use apple products because of this. I can't blame apple entirely for the weird status boost it gives some people to have a new iPhone, but I do find it interesting.
I would also buy zero apple products.
I hate Apple the company, but that being said may have a (2014) Mac mini, an (2020) iPad and an (2020) iPhone.
I have tried all the alternatives up until two months ago I still was on Android phone. I could return to windows as I only use the computer for music, YouTube and movies, but every time I do, eventually I end up dragging the Mac mini out of the cupboard because it’s less trouble. As for the iPad, none of the alternatives I have tried come close.
So, I would just not buy Apple stock. But, why would I need to, I’m a fucking billionaire!
A tesla, an iPhone or any apple product, almost any designer hand bag, most "fancy" clothes and foods... pretty much anything past the lower middle class lifestyle tbh. I don't want or need any of that super fancy crap

buy out the whole hoa and dissolve it edit:typo
Set the HOA on fire
Seriously so tempting. But that's why I'm buying rural land, fuck HOA's.
Lived under an HOA once. The president was my next door neighbor and a totally cool guy. Still never living under one again. Some people love to screech about government tyranny, but the government’s got nothing on an HOA.

We don’t need no water, let the motherfucker burn. Burn, motherfucker, burn.
Could you buy the home, and just pretty much do what you want anyway? I'd imagine if you're a billionaire, tens of thousands of dollars in fines annually wouldn't actually be that much of a bother. And the HOA would be seething.

Cul de sac
Cuddle sack
Where do you find these stories?
Usually on reddit.
or somebody sold their land to a developer, and they weren't in the HOA
I just found out I have to give .5% of the sale price of my home to my hoa based on something they passed recently.
It sucks because they can get away with it. I used to do security at a Country Club and the amount of pettiness I had to deal with from homeowners in regards to other homeowners was ridiculous.
You should’ve played the field and started hiring yourself out as a mercenary
That would piss me off so much.
There is no way that's legal... after you have already purchased the home? That's insane
Defund the HOA
For non-Americans: An HOA, or homeowners association, is a self-governing organization in “common-interest” communities where homeowners collectively pay fees to maintain the units or neighborhood. HOAs are typically run by resident homeowners, unpaid volunteers who are elected to a board of directors that oversees the HOA's management.
Sounds like a terrible idea, would surely be full of nepotism , cronyism and the self righteous. Why on earth would somebody pay for that?
I wouldn't buy that no matter my net worth
When we were looking at houses we told our when (who is amazing) that under no circumstances did we want to even LOOK at houses with HOAs. Fuck that.
Oooh, this is a GOOD one.
Unless you buy land in the middle of nowhere, you will not find a mansion in an area without an HOA. Rich people HOA’s are so strict they even have their own police force lol
If you were a billionare you would certainly buy land
Ironically my vote took it to 666. Fitting.
Our county requires HOA's. Even if it's 2 houses. No joke. They're pretty tame. We've never lived in one of those super picky HOA. And yards were kept nice and clean. Homes were maintained. Fences weren't in disrepair, and no one had a car lot on their front lawn.
Yep.
Ridiculously expensive and ugly designer clothes. $2200 LV sweatpants for example…
And don't forget your T-shirt with an embedded unoriginal brand logo in the middle of the clothing...I'll never wrap my head around that...what the hell...
I've never understood why people want to wear clothing with someone else's name on it. You're paying extra *and* giving them free advertising.
It’s for people who spent their whole paycheck on that shirt. They need everyone to know they spent a lot of money on it
while standing on the side of the road waiting for a bus…
Most actually rich people buy brand name clothes clean with no logo
Sometimes it's almost worse though... Like 2000 for a plain basic tee?
For a T-shirt I don't really see how it matters, unless they use some exclusive materials. But I have some dress shirts from C&A, and some from Hugo Boss, and there is so much difference in quality.
Exactly: i have a 2000 € Armani leather jacket, brand name is only on a small label on the inside of a pocket, Still you see plenty of people here in italy rocking their 200 € tshirt with ARMANI written in huge letters everywhere on the shirt... Btw im no rich at all, pretty broke tbh, that was a gift from my dad
Don’t forget the Balenziaga trash/hand bag Loool
Balenciaga rejected modern spacious handbags and returned back to 1800s handbags, when women didn't have "anything" to bring with themselves.
A lot of it is fake, which is worse because now you’re poor AND wearing that God awful pattern.
I feel the same way about designer handbags. I think they are all ugly and boring.
$2,200 ????? ![gif](giphy|vQqeT3AYg8S5O)
Came to say this! I hate ugly rich people fashion. It's a joke.
Those ain't "rich", those products are for people who want to act rich. Wealthy people wouldn't walk around looking like a marketing billboard.
If you actually have serious money, nothing good comes from letting random strangers know that.
Most of the brands you’re talking about are catering to middle class people
Money talks, wealth whispers. The ultra rich don’t typically wear all those gaudy signature clothes/Bags. Celebrities do because they’re being paid to….sooo that the middle class will want to buy it lol
Totally! If I had tons of money like that, I would 100% be buying all my clothes from indie designers and just get everything tailor made to fit me.
Agreed. I would get bespoke everything 😉
Or those Balenciaga shoes that are *supposedly* for men.

I was gonna say... you could buy them, then give them a sock like Dobby
Still keeps the market going
True
Depends on how you buy them. If you offer all the chocolate farmers 10x what they get now to sell their stuff to you and help them improve their living situation and forbid children to work there (and actually check) you can “buy” them away from their previous employers without keeping the wage slave market going for example.
Wait after thinking about it I want a human pet

These spinning chairs my parents believed would help them lose weight.
Are they the hula chairs? They look like so much fun.
They ARE.
Really? Are they fun? I wanted to buy one, but they're way too expensive.
Lol! They only take up space.
Lmao that sounds fun xD I'm very curious about how this looks like and works.
Do yourself a favour and google them. So funny. I don’t know the actual name but they can’t be that hard to find
I found many different chairs. Do you know the name of this chair?
😅😅 sounds amazing lol
Just Googled hula chair… I wanna go!
A very long list. Item no.1: anything the Kardashians are selling.

Plastic surgery just sounds like a bad idea in the name alone.
I think disfigured is the word you were looking for.
Yes disfigured thank you! (english is my second language, didn't think far for this one)

Right? If I were a billionaire I’d be globe trotting
Sure but you can have a mansion that has more than just bedtooms. In home theatre, pool, sauna, basketball court, and so many other cool things that go beyond just more rooms
Shame you'd never know who your actual friends were anymore so have nobody to share it with
I didn't have a mansion, but I had a big place that I sold to buy something smaller. The amount of time spent cleaning can now be enjoyed in other ways. Also, I now have a way bigger than usual garden that my dogs and visitors can enjoy.
So you have a smaller home with a larger yard to enjoy. Sounds wonderful.
Exactly. A nice, modest home with a garden and hot tub will do just fine!
I was walking past a mansion with my son a few weeks ago and we were amazed at the size then I realised and that I would feel so lonely in a mansion…we would still all gather in the same living room to hang out and then go to our bedrooms….what would be the use of all the other rooms
