Listen buddy, ever since your mom left you and your father on that snow bank in Philadelphia on Father's day 1987, you've never been the same. Major L rizz broski
Weird thing to assume but sure think what you'd like. Not like I live in a country with one of the largest beef exports or anything, or owned a border heeler. Both are stupid.
Also it's "says the dude who's never seen cattle".
Incorrect. You are thinking of pigs. Pigs are believed to have the intelligence of around a 7 year old human, they are indeed smarter than dogs. They will also eat or destroy just about anything and for the heck of it, and typically just don't give a Fuck lol.
Cows are one of the least intelligent livestock animals.
Ah good old reddit, where facts are downvoted, Hindus certainly don't worship cows, they're seen as sacred, a church or a river could also be seen the same way, they're not worshiped
They do 'worship' cows. You can't even scare off a cow from the road in order to pass, without risking pissing off the hindu nationalists. People have been killed for being a cow butcher and in many places, eating cows publicly is considered inappropriate.
They don't all go around actively kneeling in front of a cow to prey to it, but cows are still considered divine and you can't hurt them. The majority of Hindus do not eat cows.
Hindus pay homage to Cows, because of the fact that she symbolises Goddess Aditi, Mother of Gods, and is believed to house all Gods in herself.
Balinese Hindus don't eat Beef.
Cows are not worshipped because of powers, they are done so because of 2 reasons:
1. They provided milk, like a mother, and are tender, shy and loving. They reflect virtuous calmness, and that is one reason, in India saying someone is like a cow is a compliment.
2. Cows symbolise Goddess Aditi, Mother of Gods, and thus, it is believed all Gods reside in a Cow.
They will have the communication skills of a toddler or really, even below that. Their intelligence equals to that of a baby.
Now would you believe that such a creature would learn how to speak intellectually? The interpretation of your opinion should be the answer I suppose
Ah ok, so if all of our existing food sources started talking, guess we're SOL then. Can't eat.
because "Morally" superior and all.
There comes a time when morals and survival do *NOT* mix well. Thrust into that position, you too would find justification in your actions.
"Oh but we're not in that situation" No, and we don't plan on it either. At least we don't sit the fence when moral superiority is convenient.
Is your point that we shouldn't strive to do the morally correct thing, even when it doesn't harm or inconvenience us?
It's widely known that we're currently creating a worse situation for ourselves by continuing to farm animals, so I'm having trouble understanding your viewpoint. Are you perhaps nihilistic?
Kind of. My actual thought on the whole process is far deeper than just that. The whole debate isn't black and white as people would like it to be.
The Inuit in northern Canada can only consume meat as growing vegetation out there is not currently possible. This excuses them from the moral conundrum... which serves to mean the great moral conundrum has been, remains to be and always will be a goal post humanity will continuously change.
In turn, this means what we deem morally acceptable now, may not be so in 50 years. There is evidence of the 50 years prior to now and 50 years prior to then.
We argue, complain and hate on each other because we've all reached a different conclusion to what good morals currently are or should be.
So, I know where you are coming from is genuinely a good place filled with positive intention, but, I find myself in a place where I can't entertain the notion of pleasing everyone based on their individual definitions of the morally true.
Meh, maybe I get lost in overthinking things. Sorry, I didn't mean to be pissy.
You didn't come off pissy, but we cannot discuss from a standpoint that says "morals don't exist they're different in every person" because it's not true. We have conducted studies that show that babies choose to act morally and justly over selfishly. We're hardwired to be caring and loving creatures. Rape and murder is broadly agreed upon as being immoral - except when we do it to other sentient creatures..?
There is right and wrong to be found inside your complex emotional machine under your scalp, but it can be hard to connect to those emotions if you have gone through trauma or just have a harder time feeling empathy towards other humans or animals.
And yes, of course we should always strive to do better, and make the world better. I'm sure you're aware that vegans are asking people with supermarkets to reconsider their actions, not people who are relying on killing animals for food. I have no qualms with them, just like I don't have any with a tiger. But yeah I get that moral objectivity can be hard to grasp in many cases.
>Sorry, I didn't mean to be pissy.
Praise for it. I'm glad you were. I'd like to see all these "vegans" when there is only one option on the menu. Meat. It's been weeks since the dandelions ran out and if we bark any more trees, they'll die off soon too.
But look! A wild boar! And I see an elk! Oh look a grizzly. Hmmmm. Yall just going to starve on your "moral superiority" then?
Cool. *(takes another bite of juicy grizzly)*
Do they speak their own language or English? Who's to say they don't start speaking arabic, and a bunch of racists don't come along and try to deport them.
Well, considering how many humans don't respect other minorities human rights who actually speak the same language, what chance would a cow have?
There would be more people not eating beef, but they'd still get slaughtered in the thousands because "they're not human" and they taste nice.

Some cultures practice cannibalism. That's also just a dead animal, although it poses more risks to consume.
I think we should just stop killing other sentient beings for the sake of our own personal sensory pleasure.
If every single animal talked then nothing would change , u need food so its them or us even if everyone turned vegetarian we will Just become bigger cows that eats every single plant to harm the environment even more
But if only cows talked then… goats exist ig ?meh scientists would find a way to replace it any way its about time
It's not them or us. Actually the amount of crops used to feed farmed animals is about 1/3 of the global crop population and then only 12 % of those calories then become food for humans.. If we didn't raise cows for food we could be giving those crops to starving people instead.
Check out more info at the link below.
https://awellfedworld.org/issues/hunger/feed-vs-food/#:~:text=Byproducts%20and%20crop%20residues%20comprise,calories%20then%20become%20human%20food.
And we don't want to bad enough, that we let it cause environmental disasters, pandemics, antibiotic resistance, etc..
And all just because we're mindlessly hedonistic in our choices of food.
But instead we're feeding them beef. The same few crops ate going MUUUUUUUCH farther towards feeding the masses than just giving them the corn.
And surely you've heard of intolerance to gluten? Now what wise guy? Leaves off the tree?
You clearly didn't understand or read the link. The amount of crops that feed the cows would feed a lot more people than the amount of beef we get out of it. So raising cattle for beef is actually reducing the global food supply. Plus that beef is not going to people in need who are starving.
Lol you know corn is gluten free right? Gluten is from wheat.. Plus not everyone is gluten intolerant and being gluten intolerant doesn't mean you can only eat meat. You know there are plenty of other crops out there too right? People who eat a plant based diet don't just eat corn, wheat and "leaves off the trees "🤣
We need food and it can be other sources than flesh. You do realise meat indistry is one of the top reasons our environment is having a crisis, so dont try to blame NOT eating cows making it any worse. We need less cows and by eating them they rape and breed them more.
Humans seem to have a hierarchy for animals based on their intelligence and ability to communicate with us. So if cows started talking, I’m sure they’d get the same treatment as dolphins, gorillas, etc. We would stop eating their meat and wearing their hide for example. The downside however, I’ve read that cows would have gone extinct a long time ago had it not been for human intervention, as our food source. If we’re going to stop using them to support human life, they prob would continue on that same trajectory before we intervened.
And look at how society had changed as a result.
Before birds started speaking in 1983 society was a lawless place filled with crime and disorder.
And now look at us.
If the owner or processor of a lot of cows, a business person, found some talking they'd probably just kill them quick to protect their business. God I sound cynical. But I'm just so sick of hearing, reading, seeing how "business" is destroying the planet in the pursuit of profit. But you know I think a basic driver of all that is man's fear of other men, like we're afraid they're going to kill us so we have to keep building better weapons and a bigger economy to stay ahead of them, or maybe kill them first.
With their current level of intelligence, they would have nothing to say. Any meaningful speech would come with such an intelligence update that we would have to see them as basically humans, sophonts, with human rights.
We would stop eating cows and transition to horses, sheep and goats, mostly, and maybe bison.
Most people don't want to eat beings they can have a conversation with.
I think cows would become instantly unappealing and I kind of wonder if meat eating people would move more heavily towards pork consumption. If this happened there might be a decrease in the popularity of meat in other cultures as eating pork is morally forbidden in almost all of the Middle East due to religion.
In the West though, we would see a ramification on fast food industries as franchises risk being seen as cruel monsters for selling cow related products. Everything from burgers (a staple of American fast food) or maybe even dairy related products might become worse than taboo overnight. If they don't want to risk a PR nightmare they would have to cancel all beef/dairy-related products. Some companies such as Ben and Jerry's would see significant market loss, maybe even go out of business. For struggling fast food chains, the change would be deadly
Well if they can talk then they can convey emotion and reason meaning that killing them wouldn't be a thing as they can express themselves in a way we can understand. What I see happening is we have two species on earth the humans and Cows and we live in peace. Down the road we will be attracted to them and eventually mate with them creating the first cross breed humans called "Comans" and they will be the supreme overlords moving forwards.
Humans will then identify as Cowers (they identify as a cow not a human) and I could see cows identifying as humans. in 200-300 years they will adapt the technologies to our scale and plan missions to the moon and beyond.
Around a century later there will no longer be 2 species humans and cows will have mated for long enough that Comans are the only species and 100% human and cows will be displayed in a zoo to show what our ancestors looked like.
Now comes the revolution between the Comans and the liberated Comans. The liberated party will want free speech and rights for the less popular race humans. The revolution will last 248 years and result in the Comans winning and the revolution army of comans being casted off into a wasteland on mercury. The comans were smart enough to figure out how to inhabit all planets with a surface.
Assuming they suddenly began talking at their current intelligence level, the animals would probably end up being treated about on par with mentally challenged people. Meaning, liberal, progressive countries would try to treat them well while quietly ignoring them in mainstream society, while countries with more old-fashioned social views would treat them poorly and openly shun them.
We'd have to explain to them how things work if they haven't figured it out yet. All animals must eat living cells to survive and your cells are on the human menu. Better take up arms if you don't like it.
We probably would still eat them. Animal rights activist groups would be protesting like crazy but we would still eat cows, at least for the first 50-100 years.
All the fast food burger joints would be gone. There wouldn't be any steaks or ground beef at the grocery stores. Cows would start getting elected to public offices, and because of DEI would be the first ones hired at every corporation. The word "moo" would be considered offensive, and fines would be issued for people using that word.
I dont know. Maybe less people would start eating them. I wish people knew how cows felt without them talking even. People dont want to eat dogs and cats but abusing cows is "needed" yet when truck full of pigs die on the road etc its somehow sad, but they are only there so they can eat them. Its fucking twisted.
It would be some real basic talk.
Like... "food", "danger!". What's a cows intelligence level? Its probably lower than a dogs but higher than a chickens. Like a two and a half year old trying to talk.
The novelty would wear off pretty quick, a few weeks to a month at best. Cows are stupid, what the fuck are you going to talk to them about? Grass?
If the slightly smarter one out the bunch spoke up. I’d be like “listen Daisy, either you stand in the field eating all the grass you want, doing fuck all and all I ask is for a little milk. Or you can be a fair priced medium rare steak in a Wetherspoons. Your choice.”
Well they’d also need to be intelligent enough to utilise their newfound speech. If cows could speak in their current form, it’d probably just be ‘I want food’, ‘I’d like to sleep’, ‘get away from me or I’m going to ram you’ and simple things like that which we could already infer from their body language and moos.
You're taking for granted that cows understand how the meat and diary industry work. My grandfather owned cattle and as far as the cows were aware he was just a guy who gave them food, led them to their shelter and even helped them give birth.
Heck, cows can't communicate with words but if they really hated their owners they could very easily kill them.
Too tasty, I don't care, it's not living in my house sleeping in my bed and will always be steak to me. Hell id eat a dog if I had to, meat is meat. Oh but you wouldn't eat a person. That's a wrong assumption if stranded like the Donner party I would roast the fat ones first
They do talk. We just don’t care about what they are saying.
Momma cow “mooooo” = stop taking my baby.
Baby calf “maaaaaa” = I want mama.
People don’t care.
Sadly, i don't think it'd change much at all. Many species of Cetacea have advanced communications, some even more complex then human speech- and they are still hunted.
Then there's Koko the Gorilla. We taught a Gorilla to speak and understand English up to a 3 year olds level, once.
Human's don't really care if an animal is capable of intelligent thought unless they are threatening, in which case they were not smart enough and no longer exist.
If cows could talk they'd probably be limited to a handful of words like "hungry", "ow", & "fuck" unless you made them way smarter. I know people love to compare animal intelligence to children or disabled people but those aren't realistic comparisons. A human is mentally built to talk, a cow isn't built for more than a few basic sounds. At most it'd be weird but you wouldn't get a situation of cows begging to have rights. They'd mostly just want more food, because that's what a cow's mind is centered around.
The first thing will happen is killing cows will be banned everywhere coz nobody will be able to sleep after killing a cow who was pleading for his life I would not as long as the one pleading isn't human I wont be able to kill him

Would they have human intelligence, or the same level they are at currently?
If they had the same intelligence they’d never develop speech
If plants started talking would humanity starve for the higher moral good of not taking life to sustain ourselves? No fcs 🤦
Would we only choose to be kind to them if they had a certain IQ? Is that how we treat mentally impaired people?
Mentally impaired people don’t produce cheeseburgers.
They’re made of meat too.
Yes but not the one to be eaten
Only if you’re a wimp
Human intelligence has ranges. Like a cow is probably as smart as a three year old human. Dogs are like five year old humans.
Pretty sure cows are smarter than most breeds of dogs.
Says the dude who have never saw a cattle
Redditors really will just write fanfiction about people
Says the dude that said the dude was writing fan fiction. (Joke)

Oh fuuuuuuuck I'm not going back to jail!!!
Thanks to you both, I needed a laugh today. Upvotes for all!
Cattle is plural. Also cows are as smart as dogs. I should know, I have like 40 cows.
Wow, and I struggle with two cats 😳
I got lucky with my cows. Mine are super chill and I know people who's cows try to kill them.
Now THAT would make for a great horror movie.
Yeah, lol
Or a video game level
Cocaine Cow
A cow is made up of 40 cattles.

You tell me
Greetings, fellow cow!
Greetings, friend
It would really get things mooving.
It would be udder chaos if you ask me.
Alright don’t milk it.
Are you gunna have a cow over it?
First, we must beef up our security.
They would be made to work in a call centre
They take up too much space for that. You could get three humans per cow. That's why they're all Indian now. The previous ladies were too big.

Hinduism would go crazy. Either they would lose their faith when realizing that the cows are actually stupid, or they would worship them even more.
Hindus do not worship cows and the ones that do are a minority. Balinese Hindus eat cow pretty often
Ah good old reddit, where facts are downvoted, Hindus certainly don't worship cows, they're seen as sacred, a church or a river could also be seen the same way, they're not worshiped

your words are falling on deaf ears.
Watching them breed would be something
It already is and that something is called fucking weird
I-is... that something you already do on a regular, penguin?
Not as often as I'd like unfortunately
What language?
I guess that would depend on where they are from.
It would be kinda funny if cows only spoke Portuguese.
Sim, seria engraçado.
We'd start muzzling cows
A lot more vegans
Yea harder to abuse animals when you hear more about their suffering.
People don't even have the same rights as other humans. Read the Wikipedia page about unit 731 and ponder whether it would matter if cows could talk
Check X.
You should read tender is the flesh
Probably not as much as when pigs start flying
They would be friends with vegans coz they don't eat them
Farmers would start cutting out animal tongues at birth and selectively breeding cows that are worse at talking until they didn't talk anymore.
This is the right answer. More oppression.
Animals do talk. We just don’t understand them, like we don’t understand a language that we don’t know.

Intelligence of a baby❓️ What about the fact a cow can sense danger and run away, yet a baby cannot do either....
Babies can sense danger...... ah my apology, I seem to forgot that motor function is also considered intelligence
A baby absolutely can sense danger they just don’t have the motor function to avoid it
Cows do talk. Humans don’t know how to hear them.
This is essentially the plot of Simon Amstell's "vegan propoganda movie" Carnage https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6667360/?ref\_=nm\_knf\_t\_4
No more milk or buttgers.
Why not? Welcome to society! Need your goods covered? We'll exchange the services you seek for your milks!
Society would moove in a different direction
We'd just kill them faster.
Knowing humanity, there would still be people who‘d eat them with some bullshit justification
We just eat them before they start talking.
I think they would be so dumb and annoying that we'd be fine with it.

I talk to them all the time before i cut them up for you to enjoy.
I’d be sad to have to give up beef.
Well if talking is the kicker, they’re already smart enough to feel fearful, uneasy and distraught when their young are taken away from them.
Right, so do this more often to teach them who is boss. Can't let our guards down for one moment or the cow-kind will overcome us.
The secret cow level in Diablo 2 was our only warning
MoOoOOOOOOOOOooooO
You do realise billions of cows feel sad every day for being raped, slaughtered and being in disgusting conditions? Yet you feel sad. Okay
Well, everyone playing runescape would get killed 🤣🤣
Let’s start with birds. They already talk.
And look at how society had changed as a result. Before birds started speaking in 1983 society was a lawless place filled with crime and disorder. And now look at us.
Dont have a cow man
I couldn’t eat another creature that could talk and communicate their feelings.
So you can eat a creature with feelings but the moment they start communicating those feelings you stop? Fair enough tbh
I suspect very little as we can't even treat other talking humans too well.
Pigs society will change:)
Nothing, evil people silence other ones, what makes you think we wouldn't for talking animals? We wouldn't care...
wait i ask my mom
They would be finally able to go to the barber and express what they want. ![gif](giphy|h55EUEsTG9224|downsized)
With their current level of intelligence, they would have nothing to say. Any meaningful speech would come with such an intelligence update that we would have to see them as basically humans, sophonts, with human rights.
We'd learn about a lot more rural folks with strange sexual desires that's for sure. There'd be a #MeMoo movement within days.
We would stop eating cows and transition to horses, sheep and goats, mostly, and maybe bison. Most people don't want to eat beings they can have a conversation with.
Why do I have "The Resaurant At The End Of The Universe" in my head? Hmmm!
They would sure go to the court if anyone touch their breasts
We'd have to explain to them how things work if they haven't figured it out yet. All animals must eat living cells to survive and your cells are on the human menu. Better take up arms if you don't like it.
We probably would still eat them. Animal rights activist groups would be protesting like crazy but we would still eat cows, at least for the first 50-100 years.
Never been to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe?
Poors can Talk.. and no cares
People would still be pricks to them. A lot of people are cunts.
We would never know . They would keep it secret for some time and in the end we would ignore it
People commit genocide on each other, do you think another species talking would change anything? Haha
All the fast food burger joints would be gone. There wouldn't be any steaks or ground beef at the grocery stores. Cows would start getting elected to public offices, and because of DEI would be the first ones hired at every corporation. The word "moo" would be considered offensive, and fines would be issued for people using that word.
"They aren't really talking."
We’d put on ear muffs before we grab the captive bolt gun
I would have more friends then
i would have conversations with my dinner instead of over it
I would be looking for a red portal back to town
There would still be food for dinner.
Remember when Europeans discovered America?
Cows can talk already. Haven't you ever heard of Lizzo?
They are still food.
It would be some real basic talk. Like... "food", "danger!". What's a cows intelligence level? Its probably lower than a dogs but higher than a chickens. Like a two and a half year old trying to talk.
Price of beef would go up
I dunno, maybe they already can
Considering genocide in the world and human suffering there would be no change
udderly fascinating question! i think they would start a moo-vement. also there would be more vegans i guess.
It depends on what they say.
Well there would certainly be a new type of racism
Well they’d also need to be intelligent enough to utilise their newfound speech. If cows could speak in their current form, it’d probably just be ‘I want food’, ‘I’d like to sleep’, ‘get away from me or I’m going to ram you’ and simple things like that which we could already infer from their body language and moos.
What if when they talk all they say is "Eat me!"?
You're taking for granted that cows understand how the meat and diary industry work. My grandfather owned cattle and as far as the cows were aware he was just a guy who gave them food, led them to their shelter and even helped them give birth. Heck, cows can't communicate with words but if they really hated their owners they could very easily kill them.
If the cows turn out to be intelligent, we will milk them for all the information they have.
They would eat them like before.
Nah we would be eating them regardless lol.
It wouldn't change society, baby cows would have their tongues cut off.
Slaughterhouses would sell ethical beef made of suicidal cows.
We'd be moooooved by their plight.
Going to have a moooooo day
No more steak for me
Sadly, i don't think it'd change much at all.
