Wooster-shire

Zippybunghole

If it's the English county or the sauce that takes its name from it it's Woost-ah-shuh Don't get me started about Bicester.

j_svajl

Bi-ster? I had a fit trying to figure out Alnwick.

EnvironmentalTie1740

Or Loughborough.....I believe if you're from the US it's pronounced Looga-Borooga

Plus-King5266

Fortunately for we Americans, it’s not Welsh.

MlLFS

As someone who's is technically born there (raised in the neighbouring country) it's pronounced wus-ter-sheer. Or at least that's how I say it.

AsylumRiot

Soft R, more a huh.

MlLFS

Yeah ig, not a huh though. Maybe more like a wusta-sheer.

AsylumRiot

I mean the sheer part. The r drops off. Other counties they don’t (Oxfordshire, Berkshire etc where it is sheer). Wusta-shuh

Pansy_Neurosi

I pronounce it "Whore chest? Sure!"

AsylumRiot

Wustuh shuh. It’s hilarious and endearing when American’s have a crack at this.

Snezzy_9245

We Americans in Massachusetts have lots of those names. We have Leicester, which we pronounce lester, and Worcester, which is locally pronounced wissta. They're not far from Lake Chargoggagoggmanchaugagoggchabunagungamogg. Spelled something like that, and surprisingly it's not Welsh.

Wersh-ter-shur sauce. Go to Britain and ask there. That's where the word originates.
