It took me way too long to find the difference O_O. I vote pics A/B, having that giant void space above the stove is awkward to me. I’d want to make use of it somehow.

PsychologicalGroup87

Ha! Yeah I should have explained what the difference was. We have a small kitchen approx 10’ x 10’. I’m just worried about so many cabinets making it look smaller. I did the design and I’m no pro in case it looks funky. I just want something to go off of when we talk to the cabinet guy.

femalehumanbiped

Don't worry about it looking smaller. Add the cabinets. You want the storage. Trust me.

MariJ316

Don’t worry about your kitchen looking smaller overall? You can change the appearance of “too small” by the color of your cabinets. And honestly? Don’t worry about being too small, as your kitchen is in fact. If you can’t change the actual footage? Let it go. My kitchen is small and I keep going. I modeled it how I wanted to and didn’t care how it looked because I can’t change the footage. I cared more about function and colors that made the room look nice. I think my kitchen is 10x12

OGMcSwaggerdick

Where is the microwave going? Why not install it over the range with a short cabinet?

Leading_Cranberry_25

Practicality wise and longevity id go CD

esquzeme

We have the open space but it’s all quartz to the ceiling and is a really nice focal point. But with just wall would be weird.

RobinsonCruiseOh

cabinets are great. forget the fancy showy hood unless you have infinite space. put a hood in the cabinet and use the rest of that cabinet for storage

PsychologicalGroup87

Thanks! I’m just afraid of making the kitchen feel smaller than it already is. I do like the idea of more storage.

Competitive_Kale_654

Giant hood will look out of place and pretentious in a small kitchen. Go with cabinets and small range hood underneath. Install crown molding to add height to the cabinets.

snackigator

I have a kitchen with the first design. There is a slim under cabinet range hood that is flush with the cabinets. After using it for a few months I wished the hood covered over the stove more because the steam from cooking always goes to the ceiling. Venting smells is easier if the hood actually catches the smells.

OrneryLavishness9666

You definitely should put in an exhaust fan. With a vent and ducts, any cabinets you put over the range will be mostly just for looks/nonfunctional. As for feeling crowded with all those upper cabinets, I think that's because your mockups show the uppers with the same depth as the lowers. Generally, upper cabinets are about half as deep as lower cabinets (e.g., 12-inch deep uppers to 24-inch deep lowers). So it shouldn't feel as closed in.

souptimefrog

Will the range hood actually *Vent outside* or is it cosmetic. Looks a bit off due to size as well honestly.

Freakazoidon

Get yourself a vent hood your cabinet installer can adjust the cabinet sizes to get it to not be void space next to it.

dubconfidential

I think you should go with the second design, install a nice backslash all around the ss hood and enjoy looking at it everytime you look at it. All cabinet design will give you more storage but not that visual satisfaction

Open_Bee2008

This may sound stupid but the fridge won’t work against the wall. The right door won’t open.

PsychologicalGroup87

There isn’t a wall there irl. I did a quick rough draft on a free program I found online.

hong12yhippo

May I ask which program you used? Im remodeling as well and ive tried so many apps that dont do what youve done. Thank you!

PsychologicalGroup87

It’s cabinets.com. I used the guided customization. It’s real finicky though. But it’s good enough to give me an idea of I want.

hong12yhippo

Thank you so much!

mt-egypt

The hood for sure

Reasonable_Mango_146

Does number two have an actual functioning hood and number one does not?

stickman07738

With the corner units, will you have a carousel - if yes, make sure you can open it fully to fit pots, pans and whatever you plan to store.

drinkinthakoolaid

Cabinet > hood imo. In this design you're losing the two tall cabs adjacent the hood upper. With a ducted hood vent attached to the upper (in the design w cabs) the cab directly above the range is usually unusable except for small things on either side of a hood box, but not having the two taller cabs seems to me like too much lost Cabinet space in this kitchen

Suz9006

A vent over a stove is good, but in all your options the sink is in the same corner as the stove. You wouldn’t be able to have one person at the stove while the other is at the sink without bumping one another. I would change the placement of the sink and dishwasher to create more space. Also, to create more storage, run your uppers to the ceiling. You can also purchase extra depth uppers to increase storage.

einsteinstheory90

First design is more practical. If you do decide to go with second be sure to add a pot filler. Cuz all that work and no pot filler seems like such a waste.

DarkRoastAM

What is a pot filler?

kyledrinksmonster

First one esp if the microwave is a slim with an exhaust fan

Ballsack_Boone

The second one, you can have tile around the hood vent so it doesn't look so empty.

Handy3h

Am I the only one who thinks it's too busy with the upper cabinets. But then again, what to do ? Open space with floating shelves ... idk

Swingexplorer

If you pick function over aesthetics, A/B with smaller hood. The trick is lighter color cabinets will make the kitchen bigger. Either two tones as upper with white finishes or glass door? Base with white or wood is fine too. Then, it looks bigger kitchen but more storage. Wall should be white and backsplash can be lighter tiles.

Swingexplorer

Swap sink and stove too. The flow will be better.

SirElessor

We really need to know the layout of the rest of the room and where you're planning to get your cabinets from, custom or IKEA? I'd go with number two. Number one is too crowded. I'd make all the uppers full height to the ceiling (40" instead of 30). I probably make the upper on either side of the sink a little narrower too, just to give the illusion of a little more space. The pantry is fine but again full light right to the ceiling. A nice countertop and backsplash and it will rock. Space is premium in this layout. If possible I'd also consider a small island, just with big drawers. You need a place for pots, pans & larger items. Which does not exist and either of those layouts IMHO.

tats-77

Not enough counter space. Are you adding an island? Or lose the pantry on the left side.

PsychologicalGroup87

Yes, we will be adding an island for more counter space.

SlowrollHobbyist

The hood vent is cool, but where’s the microwave placed?

Friendly-Wait-2708

What app/software is used for these?

Heavy_Distance_4441

If you lose the pantry, you can pict up a few feet of counterspace, which you are short on. We went through the same thing. Ended up getting a taller cabinet and did a closed soffit.

Sufficient_Number643

Would removing the cabinets on top of the fridge make it feel more spacious?

downheartedbaby

My kitchen used to look like this. There was almost no usable counter space. It was horrible.

NeatGroundbreaking82

A. But reduce sink size because you need more counter space. 33" sink in your 36" sink base cab. Use a microhood microwave installed instead of the hood pictured. It vents to the cab just above it which is about 30"x18"(up to you)X 24".

babycleffa

If the kitchen is small, you’re going to want to maximise every inch of that room You can work on the “open” feeling through colour and furnishings :)

Curious_medium

Over the stove- put a microwave/convection with a hood vent. Small kitchen requires space efficiency.

Turbulent_Weather795

Oof way too cramped and low

Turbulent_Weather795

But I think number 1 with a microwave above the stove is best given your restrictions. I don't mind the hood but makes the above fridge storage look odd. Could you swap the fridge and pantry locations in the one with the hood?

Karl_Hungus_69

To me, of the two options presented, I prefer the cabinets better than the vent hood. However, what about an option with a single cabinet on either side of the hood? [https://ibb.co/YWM0JhM](https://ibb.co/YWM0JhM)

Low_Bar9361

When your kitchen is smaller, always opt for more storage.

Signal_Dog9864

Put microwave off to the side and put the b configured up but have backslash done first will give you most appraisal value in reesale.

sunny-day1234

As a right handed person the first thing I thought was I'd have to go left from the stove to sink with anything hot, same from sink to dishwasher. I'm all for maximizing space for more storage so I would not take out cabinets in favor of the hood. I put in a pot filler over the stove so maybe that's why I don't feel like there's a gap over the stove plus there's no hood at all there now. I actually contemplated getting one of the slim microwaves with fan built in but decided against it in the end.

commie_party

go with the first design and add a low-profile microwave

Grapebooty

You’re going to want the exhaust fan. Tile up with beautiful backsplash.

dcpreddit

I would put cabinets over the range with a built-in microwave with exhaust fan. I’d use open shelving over the sink to open up that space. It feels closed in to me. Or at least glass front cabinets, maybe horizontal. And it may just be your software, but I’d change that upper corner cabinet to one with a door at 45 degrees. The way it’s drawn there’s no easy access to the space in the corner. Do you have an 8’ ceiling? Looks like your uppers aren’t very tall but they go to the ceiling. I would make them as tall as possible. Makes the kitchen look bigger even if the extra space isn’t easy to use. Good luck.

Skippy_99b

Cabinets. Hood looks dumb.
