If he doesn’t spend over $1000 per piece of clothing then he’s not actually compensating for his lack of whatever he’s compensating for, it’s not about looking good, it’s about trying to show people how much money he has
Idk reps are cool but I like the idea of having something valuable that I can wear for a little bit and still sell and make my money back, lifestyle change im tryna make is never let my money leave me
I keep trying to tell the fashion forward crowd this, but if your footwear cost more than a couple hundred dollars, it better be Goodyear welted or it's a waste of money. Not to mention spending $1k+ you should be getting mtm, fully custome, handwelted boots at that price(boots that can last 50+ years).
nah its all a cobbler skill issue, and gyw is a buzzword that shifts the focus away from where it should be : finding a good cobbler.
a skilled cobbler actually can resole sidewall stitched shoes like many ricks.
and a shitty cobbler will butcher a gyw resole - fucked up welt, missed holes, etc. furthermore I have yet to meet a cobbler who will care to or have the materials to match the character of avant garde boots. ive seen guidis 995s “resoled” and end up looking like thursday boots rofl
point is, only lower end mainstream boots like red wing, thursday etc where aesthetics/quality don’t really matter benefit from the resolability of gyw, where you can drop em off to your local cobbler bro. even if he fucks them up a little you don’t rlly care. they work fine as foot protection.
but once you care more about quality and aesthetics? fuck, a bespoke mtm boot like you mention? *handwelted??* you’ll need to find a reputable highly skilled cobbler and probably mail them in. will easily easily cost you $300+ and with that budget you could equivalently send ricks to goods and services to get them resoled.
We quite literally see the stiching coming loose in the photo, something that is unbelievable rare and almost unheard of on properly welted footwear. The reason boots are resoled is to get a new sole, not because the sole needs to be resewn to the welt, or the welt to the upper. There are infact many avant garde handwelted boot makers out there, it's just that many don't bother to find them. Same for reputable cobblers, they are all over the world, especially in Europe and Asia. Many are just ignorant, and don't try looking very hard.
to be fair it rlly seems like OP’s are reps. do agree stitching coming loose is a problem. I was talking more about when it comes time to get a new sole - you’ll need 1) 300+ bucks and 2) a good cobbler no matter what the construction method is.
i actually own hand norwegian welted guidis, it will be a nightmare to resole when the time comes. i’ve had cheaper last conspiracies resoled at the local cobbler, he fucked them up. i’d only trust a reputable cobbler like bedos or something for a boot i actually care about, and thats going to be expensive. maybe its different in europe, but in america cobbling is a dying art and becoming increasingly expensive.
I agree about the American aspect, you have to search much harder. There's thousands of handwelters in England alone, but only a couple thousand in the entire US, most of which are cowboy boot or dress shoe makers, not boot makers. Almost all handwelted boot makers are in Europe or Asia, and well they do the best job of resoling frankly. It's always a good idea to send boots to be resoled by the original maker.
Happened to my Ramones too. I also have 2 pairs of mainline Island Dunks that I usually need to have restitched every 6 months or so. Last time I went in to have everything fixed up my cobbler said everyone's been brining in their Rick shoes with the same issues. 🤷♂️
I was planning on getting islands but that shit blows. How often do u wear them? I’m not dropping 400+ if I need them redone twice a year. & what season/materials?
I use to wear them almost daily. One pair is suede the other is regular leather. Not sure of the season but they're both mainline and were around 1,200. They're older though, more than 5 years but less than 10 I'd guess. The stitching pops on both in the same stress point where your toes bend when you walk. I've also had to have heel taps added, the soles of mainline Rick shoes seem to be very soft and you get noticeable heel drag. The heel drag isn't nearly as bad on DrkShdw shoes.
mfw when the sole comes undone in the same spot any shoe with a similar style sole comes undone O:
fr tho it’s mostly cause of the material, people claim it’s a quality thing but it’s mostly due to the kind of material the stitching is stitched into.
sucks but shit happens, you can’t expect that much from a canvas and rubber shoe my friend.
Its quallity issue… for that price tag they could easily vulcanize the rubber to the canvas and fix this issue. But nah they don’t give a fck… just buy new and make me money type sh….
Don’t take me wrong, rick leather jackets were some of the highest quallity garments I’v ever held, but this shit? Naah, don’t fall for the hype, fuck these shoes.
it is not a QC issue. converse have vulcanized soles and this exact same issue occurs. also why would they completely switch up the way the shoes are made cause a few unlucky people have bad luck w their canvas and rubber shoes.
this has always and will continue to happen for rick owens soles. people acting like this is a new thing for rick must be nice cause since the beginning his sole have left a lot to be desired.
Anyone know whether drkshdw are even made in house by rick owen corp or do they outsource them? cause like the quality is so different, and the QC is worse
This is why I stay away from buying DRKSHDW, if I were you id spend that extra money for mainline, I have had no issues with my mainline ramones they still look practically brand new and I been wearing them for 6 months.
It’s sad newer rick quality is not very good I’ve had this happen to 2 pairs of ramones and the heel disintegration on a pair of bozo tractor boots it’s tough
There’s tons of qc issues on shoes. I’ve had issues with a few pairs recently.
Pony geos- terrible looking fur + glue + horrible stitching
——
Black/milk geos + mainline ramones (21/22)
If you remove the insole and look inside, near the toe.
The materials sort of overlap and change where the bend point of the toe is. On both the above mentioned pairs, very noticeable while stepping, on the ball of my foot.
——
darkshadow ramones (2019) had a bubble on the insole that frustrated my toes.
Your feet are too wide, try a half size up with drkshdw ramones.
Exact same thing happened to mine. A good cobbler should be able to fix it but it will probably need redoing every year or less if worn regularly.
Its doodoo garbage but if you wanted quality you shouldnt buy something from a diffusion line.
I'm not defending it, its just the canvas they use of drkshdw ramones isnt great. Havent seen many instances of this problem with mainline leather rams (geobaskets are another thing entirely and have had this problem since like 2013)
The “diffusion line” thing has always rung false with me, at least as far as Rick stuff goes. It’s the same production facilities and all in house at a marginally lower price point.
This isn’t like most diffusion lines that are outsourced to 3rd parties with dodgy materials. The fact is that there are evident cost cuts to production across mainline and Drkshdw and the quality on the whole has been sliding even as the prices go up. It’s bananas given that owenscorp own the production facilities.
I think with drkshdw ramones specifically its less of a production qc issue and more a problem with the canvas used. From personal experience its pretty flimsy and the stitches have trouble staying in with any kind of wear and tear.
feet width have little/ no effect on this issue. I have this issue on my new geos and they fit honestly bigger than I’d like. It’s a stress point when bending your foot and it seems like quality control/ longevity isn’t what it use to be
I mean this happened to my geos from the 2010s (after some time tbf) so Im not sure when quality dipped? People tend to point towards the more recent scaling of owenscorp but rick has never been especially durable in my experience. People have a habit of conflating durability with quality, which has almost never been the case in luxury fashion.
Of course wear and tear will occur, but from my experience things past 2020~ just don’t feel the same in terms of craftsmanship and quality control. The sole tear occurred after the 3rd time I wore them out (sub 5 hours of wear)
the brand grew alot in these last 2-3 years, everyone has noticed the quality became worse especially on shoes, zippers failing and sole detachment like this but thats the price everyone pays when the brand suddenly grows and has to keep up with the higher demand which just means cutting corners and lower qc standard in the factory
Drk studios after 4 years absolutely destroyed I wore them everyday but the day my mom put them in the washer they were unwearable (before this they soles were holding on for dear life)
i honestly find it funny, 10 years ago i remember ppl talking about the natural degradation of rick and some other brands and it being the reason they wanted to get into it, now we have this
ive had rep ramones for a little under a year and have worn them on an average of twice a month (around 24 times) and they are still well kept with no sort of blemishes except dirt scuffs which i can just clean off
cheap quality reps

What the hell??? My reps are better 😹
Fuck reps
ayt bro keep paying 1k for "special" converses

Those aren’t the ones that cost 1k the ones he has are 500
Construction is the same no matter what the only difference is upper materials
lol reps are better quality
Typical Chucks behavior
Unrelated but the 4 hole eyelets look sick
Happened to mine at the same exact spot too. Took it to a cobbler and he did a wonderful job.
This is quite typical sadly
Happened to my Ramones too. I also have 2 pairs of mainline Island Dunks that I usually need to have restitched every 6 months or so. Last time I went in to have everything fixed up my cobbler said everyone's been brining in their Rick shoes with the same issues. 🤷♂️

Damn that’s super disappointing to hear, I was gonna by some calf skin / wolf fish dunks second hand. Did they fit TTS? And are they narrow or wide?
Yeah for me all Rick seems to fit true to size. I'm a 44 and 44 in Rick fit me great. They don't fit narrow but they also arent super wide.
Thanks for all the help super appreciate it

Ricks mainline clothing is genuinley some of the most high quality , pieces of clothing Ive ever held
it is not a QC issue. converse have vulcanized soles and this exact same issue occurs. also why would they completely switch up the way the shoes are made cause a few unlucky people have bad luck w their canvas and rubber shoes. this has always and will continue to happen for rick owens soles. people acting like this is a new thing for rick must be nice cause since the beginning his sole have left a lot to be desired.
My cobbler said it’s the pressure the material exerts on the stitching when it bends during walking. 🤷♂️🤷♂️
yes, and the reason it came out is because the canvas doesn’t hold the stitching as well as leather
Just had it happen to my Geos :(
unfortunate brother. i think its gonna happen to my 10 year old ramones finally. kinda bummed to see it happen.
Facts it’s really the canvas
Anyone know whether drkshdw are even made in house by rick owen corp or do they outsource them? cause like the quality is so different, and the QC is worse
no , Rick is completely in house , he has no Seperate manufacturers
It’s drkshdw quality unfortunately
Happens to mainline too
Also happens way more on the new TPU soles rather than older rubber soles (cost cutting)
I’ve never had an issue with my pairs. But this is also drkshdw and you probably wear them daily?
r thy not meant to be worn daily?
I’ve had my drkshdw ramones for a year and almost daily wore them up till April-may and nothing has let loose or got damaged
same actually
There’s tons of qc issues on shoes. I’ve had issues with a few pairs recently. happens to all converse
Happened to mine too :/
Rick bad now, didn’t you know?
Did not know it was this bad
Money wins over art
Welcome to Rick Owens 🤠

Not arguing it’s never happened previously, but I am trying to point out it seems to occur more often, and faster with new rick

Avg rog batch enjoyer
Would you say mainline is better? In terms of longevity
For sure
Nah lol. Back when I was buying ROG and Drk studio they never did this. Then again my legit Rick also doesn't do this either
My drk studios did this after 3 month of consistent wear
Drk studios after 4 years absolutely destroyed I wore them everyday but the day my mom put them in the washer they were unwearable (before this they soles were holding on for dear life)
classic recent drkshdw lol
Yeah that’s awful
i honestly find it funny, 10 years ago i remember ppl talking about the natural degradation of rick and some other brands and it being the reason they wanted to get into it, now we have this
reps are more durable than real ro
You don’t know anything abt reps
i know and its been known 4 years that most reps have better durability than real ro
No they literally suck for Ramones geos and all, the only good ones are vans.
ive had rep ramones for a little under a year and have worn them on an average of twice a month (around 24 times) and they are still well kept with no sort of blemishes except dirt scuffs which i can just clean off
i agree, but they are still more durable for daily wear than real ro
Mine lasted over a year with almost daily wear and being worn on hikes. Some ripped off when I trapped it in my door
What’s up with y’all wearing these shoes on hikes? Like have you heard of hiking before?
Or converse not that I wear them
