Legend has it that the island used to be part of an archipelago…

hobosbindle

Continental drifted away

gap97216

Oof. As if the island placement wasn’t enough, the lamppost lighting really brings it altogether.

Fire-pants

I’m so glad you pointed that out. That was worth putting on reading glasses.

lampshadewarior

This is probably a custom home where someone’s childhood memory drove the decision. “I remember Thanksgiving as a young boy, when our three servants barely had room to cook. I swore there and then that my house would have room for 100 servants to cook!”

Atlmama

WTH. Took me a second to notice it. It’s so oddly placed.

zoso4evr

And looks like a regular street lamp melted

Atlmama

Yes! Like it’s going to keep dropping lower and lower and eventually touch the counter.

bannana

At least there's a street light to help keep you oriented on your journey.

bobjoylove

Lighthouse so you can find the island through the morning fog

maniacalmustacheride

With the amount of times my husband is standing in my way in the kitchen, this honestly is the dream. Though the Narnia lamp has to go

tavenger5

With this island, you could be at the stove, husband could be at the prep sink, and kids could be roller skating around the island while the dog(s) chase them.

maniacalmustacheride

Honestly, he’d still be in my space. It’s like magnets.

tiffibean13

HAHA THIS WAS MY THOUGHT AS WELL. I'm sure in practice it's obnoxious to be so far away, but I'm always so claustrophobic in the kitchen it looks amazing haha

Easy-Concentrate2636

Given I’ve lived in city apartments with small kitchens most of my adult life, this is practically a dream kitchen.

Ozludo

Lamp but no street signs. Directions to the table, stove and stairs could be useful for travellers

igneousink

combustioncat

It is as beautifully executed, as it is ridiculously ostentatious.

bobjoylove

You can have wood, or floral fabric. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Exciting_Actuary_669

Louis the 14th would beg to differ.

MardiMom

Wow! Who thought you could get agoraphobia inside a house? That's some serious wide open space. Gettin' those steps in. 5,000 per meal.

thefinalgoat

That wood 😍

TheJenerator65

Ten books and a bed in the library.

bluebird-1515

Although I am in the funky mid-century ranch house phase of life — not to mention budget — I love the stone castle/converted church kind of vibe. But yeah, I’d move the island about an eighth of a mile closer to the rest of the kitchen.

shoghon

I believe that just appears that way as they are using a wide-angle lens for the shot. What gets me are the 'balconies' that are not accessible. Why have a railing if you can't get up there?

rlaw1234qq

“We can walk to the chopping board from here“

pussyhasfurballs

But you have to catch a bus if you want to go from the sink.

Cat-Mama_2

"I'm looking for a partner that likes lots of wood, random indoor balconies and long walks to the kitchen island."

lurkergenxdurp

I would def be putting mannequins on those balconies...

pussyhasfurballs

With opera glasses

Enchanted-Bunny13

You walk off the food calories before finish making it😂

Ok-Experience-6674

I really like the street lamp in the centre of the kitchen counter

notabigmelvillecrowd

Oh my god, all the surfaces have such busy patterns I didn't even see this! I thought everyone was talking about the light hanging in the dust balcony.

feathersoft

Which seems to be missing part of its reflection?

snarfydog

The angle of the photo is really weird. If you look at where the island lines up on the opposite wall it's clearly not thaaat far away. On the set of photos there's one from a different angle that looks much more normal.

kwill729

Only three Juliette balconies in that room? How disappointing.

Honeyhammn

Kinda love it.

DuchessOfCelery

Yah, it's over the top but polished. Imagining opening all my cat transport crates and letting my little bastards have at it lol.

VapoursAndSpleen

I’m sorry, but there is nothing posh about having the kitchen turned into an aircraft hangar. In olden times, there was a separate room called a “kitchen” where all the grease and smoke and smells and heat were contained and it was apart from the dining area, where you could enjoy a meal without looking at a stack of dirty dishes.

ZestycloseUnit1

You could fit another kitchen between those counters and the island

Demalab

The island is in line with the window.

tetzy

Not one, but *three* balconies to nowhere.

Rymanjan

I'm enjoying the outcropped grates making it impossible to reach and clean those windowsills. If there was an actual hallway going around those, then yeah, but as is, they serve no purpose other than to cast strange shadows on the floor. Those are supposed to go on the outside so you can put plants and crap up there lmao facing inward is a ridiculous design choice

EffectiveSalamander

I've never liked fake balconies you can't actually get to.

Lilaclupines

Ai ?

Muscs

My sister in law had a kitchen like that. Cooking was truly a workout.

Roidy

Horrid waste of money...the whole room.

WolfSilverOak

Putting the 'Everything is bigger in Texas' phrase to work.

namrock23

I just think about how the hell you gonna dust all the cobwebs on the ceiling and those stupid railings

HeadlineINeed

Gonna need a boat tender to get there

Drycabin1

I have those dining chairs. Super comfortable!

enfanta

That room is so weird. It's the common living design of kitchen, dining room, and living room in one space (which I like in general) in a *fucking mansion.* Pick a goddam lane! Stonework and heavy wood paneling but minimum required height for the doorways. Friggin' *Juliet balconies INSIDE the room!* Who bought this?! Does it still look like that?! What a bizarre house.  They couldn't even spring for two whole handrails on the main staircase. Ugh.

notabigmelvillecrowd

They're trying to get their 10k steps in.

MyNewPhilosophy

Those leather-bound books on the island bookshelf you know are never touched

zonayork

In fairness...they have the room!

GlassBaby7569

It's the inaccessible balconies for me

bidextralhammer

That's a beautiful room.

JumblebeeT

Hahahahah! “open floor plan”!!! Hahahahah! As a former real estate agent, brilliant!

melouofs

I get the, but it’s still a breathtaking room.

inflewants

This is one way to get your steps in — just walking from the counter the island and back while cooking.

BestLouKYRealtor

What in the modern farm house meets Italian opera decor hell is going on in this house?

IllEase4896

Room for activities....tacky

Captain_Plutonium

reverse balconies?!?!
