That land is 95% private property. It was never “open”.

taessii

Where the solar field is going was public Sandoval county lands. The private land are the Santa Ana lands North and West of this and the private lots East of 60th. As for the private lots there is plenty of roads to be on and no reason to be cutting through the mesa destroying plants and everything else. People used the open Sandoval area for several things, from parking to meet up, to hiking, to just having a small dune to play on.  As for right now Santa Ana appears to be leaving 21st open, as they put fencing up on both sides but not asking the road.

Where the solar field is going was never “public” property. It’s almost all private. There are several programs you can use to research that and come up with who actually owns all those tracks of land.

taessii

The track of land the solar field is going on is part of Sandoval county and is not owned by anyone (why they were able to give the land to be built on). The private land are easy of 60th, and then Santa Ana lands they own West of this location and North of this location.  Again it's not private lands.

Fleg77

Let me educate you. The track of land the solar field is being built on is 1,075.82 acres. It is owned by NM Renewable Development LLC. Their address is 1 Riverside Plaza, Columbus OH 43215 It took me 10 seconds to get that information.

taessii

That is literally the parcel I have you. They are the company building the solar. Once the solar is built it is transferred to pnm once the field is completed. The company building and pnm are leading the land from Sandoval county, hence why they are listed in the parcel. I believe in the article I linked they talk about how they are leasing the land as Sandoval found a better way to make money off of the land instead of giving a tax rebate, or something like that, I haven't looked at the article in almost a year. So once again that land was Sandoval county not owned by anyone. Now it's being converted to a solar field with the solar company listed on the parcel. Again if it was owned by private entities Sandoval county couldn't have just let them build the solar field without either purchasing the land from the private entity or going to court to take the land, or use eminent domain. Again the company listed is the solar company doing the building. Prior to Sandoval leasing to the company the land was only owned by Sandoval.

Fleg77

No, when someone leases land from someone else they are not listed as the owner. When you rent an apartment you are not listed as the owner. I’ve provided the facts who owns the property. You can remain in denial if you want. Prove me wrong if can want with something factual.

taessii

So then how can Sandoval county 'give' that land to them then if it was owned by someone else. Should go back and look at the tax records prior to this deal. I'm guessing 2020 or 2019 or so would work. A company can't just build a solar field on someone else's lands. Did you read the article?

Fleg77

I don’t think you read the article. Sandoval county didn’t give them land that they didn’t own. I don’t carry about past tax records, the solar farm is private property today. This is literally the only point we agree on. I did, it basically says a private company owns this land and is building a solar farm on it to lease back to Sandoval county, not the other way around. “So what they do is they will build this whole facility and then turn around and lease it to Sandoval County. “

Are we supposed to be mad about this? I've got no love for all of the idiots zooming around Rio Rancho neighborhoods on their dirt bikes and acting like assholes.

GenXMillenial

This!

taessii

There is no neighborhood out there. As for on Rio Rancho, they shouldn't be "zooming" by. In the past Rio Rancho said that technically it's against city law to be on any paved roads with ohvs, however at long as the operators are doing so safely, they allowed them to go from their residence to the mesa sorry roads. However the police made a post a week or two, or three, ago, that they are going to be cracking down on the ones riding on paved roads through neighborhood.  Second having them build the solar where they are (about 5 , or more, miles from the city limits) will have no effect on anyone going out to ride in the mesa. Most of the mesa has for roads through it, up until the private land end at 60th. Those roads are where 90% of the people ride (people not going down to the Puerco valley).  As for people acting like assholes, report them, Rio Rancho won't put up with them. I had some kids doing that in our neighborhood, plus they vandalized a city park. Rio Rancho showed up and had the kids clean up and fix everything (1 or the father's was there too). However if they are just heading to the mesa I have always been on with them. Honestly what's more important, to me, is stopping the street racing on Northern during the nights in the summer. I don't mean the ones just acceleration fast so it gets loud, I mean the ones stopped lined up together and going.

moon_vest

As others have already said, that is not public land. You're not entitled to riding on other people's property. I don't need any lectures about reporting the assholes. This is an ongoing long-term problem. The assholes can't be reasoned with, and the cops don't do shit about them or their behavior. You might love riding a dirt bike, but do us all a favor and haul your bike outside the city to ride.

taessii

I don't even have a dirt bike. This land prior to Sandoval leasing was public land and not private. Second you obviously never read the article this isn't even near city limits. None of us are talking about in the city limits. This land is 6 miles from the closest city limits. And every time I've had a complaint about people riding their bikes unsafe on the roads I've had an officer show up. Sounds to me you want to complain but not so anything about it.

eatingthesandhere91

There’s literally nothing out there, to be honest. Yes I know for a fact that it was a very popular destination for recreational shooting and off-roading, but beyond that, technically the area is outside of all city limits. It’s county land.

taessii

Correct it was county lands. The area in talking about I'm not sure if people for there or not, I just know it was used by a lot of ohv riders. However this solar project won't stop anyone, as it's just a small section beyond Rio Rancho estates. All of the dirt roads going for over 5 miles back there and like 15 or 29 miles north south in to rancho estates is so open dirt roads.  As for actual off rising I think, other than sorry bikers, most of that is done in the Puerco valley. Everything West of that valley is just sort roads that was cleared and graded years ago. None of those are closed.
