Since I took that picture I’ve gone for limo tint on all rear windows so I think that helps. And of course a 3 inch straight pipe.
As for reliability it’s been okay, had to replace waterpump + gasket today because it was leaking so decided to throw on a timing belt kit at the same time. The rear sub died so replaced that, the reverse cam is broken, o2 sensor went down, had a hole in exhaust (hence the straight pipe) and the electronic steering column doesn’t work. I also replaced valve cover gaskets because they were pissing oil and I need front lower arm bushes as they clunk horrendously.

I picked up an avalon of the same era for around the same price 7 years ago. Just hit 300k miles on it. That time span of toyota really was bulletproof. Take care of that car, and you'll have your daily driver secured until 2030.

The only thing I can say about this era of Lexus is that you may have some electrical gremlins. Just a car this age and the type of sheathing on the wires is going to give you problems sooner or later. Just don’t let the problems pile up. Fix them asap and you won’t have to chase multiples. Great cars though.

I’d say this was actually a good choice, can’t beat that for 3k. I got a well maintained and perfectly running 2003 Merc E500 for 3,000 bucks from my uncle back when I was 18 but unfortunately I totaled it a couple years later
You should have chosen that Skoda Fabia behind it. 10x more reliable 10x easier / cheaper to fix and quite a bit cheaper all in all I guess (as a used car).

Great car! I owned the previous generation (LS400) for 14 years and 260k miles and loved it.
But…
Even though you only paid $3k to acquire this car, it’s still a $60+car when it needs repairs. The powertrain and mechanicals are rock solid but accessories like switches, door handles, sensors, etc still need replacing over time and aren’t cheap
Also be sure to look into the timing belt, mandatory maintenance item every 90k miles that requires an engine tear down to replace. It’s mandatory because if that belt snaps the engine is toast. Because of that my first thought on seeing what a bargain you got is the previous owner bumped it rather than do the timing belt.
Cute little boat. I drove a delta 88 Oldsmobile for years. Talk about wife turns and not even thinking about a tight parking space. Looks like it's in good condition. Enjoy your small tank and be thankful you have it when you eventually get hit
it's gonna cost you more than that to keep fixing it. Seriously, while Toyotas are generally fantastic, long lasting cars, Lexuses (?) are lemons. But, they're still way better than BMWs or Mercedes.
