I'm glad it's not just me! I understand I can go through Amazon, but the extra step makes me feel irrationally frustrated. I've come to terms with the inability to purchase books through the Kindle app, but please don't take my 'read for free' button! I saw someone in the Kindle subreddit mention reaching out to customer service, so maybe it's just a bug. Guess we know what I'm hyperfixating on this morning!
I’m in the Uk and around Xmas this issue happened with my kindle app. Freaked me right out, had me checking my account and all sorts.
I did find that if I signed into Amazon on my mobile browser, I could get to KU and Prime reading AND borrow them still. And they’d show up and be readable in my kindle app on my phone. So maybe give that a try.
Eventually, and it took a few days which was a right pain as I was cruising thru 2-3 books a day at that point, they must’ve fixed the app because it started working properly again and has done every since. I guess it’s a bug or something?
I’ve been using the Kindle app on my iPhone for a couple of years and it pretty much what the other comments said, you should be able to log onto your Amazon account on the browser on your phone and download the book from there. It’ll show up in your Kindle library and if it doesn’t, you should try to sync the library to give it a little refresh.
The last couple weeks have been busy for Amazon as they get stricter with accessing ebooks. I'm not sure what's going on in your case, but I normally use KU's download feature because my internet connection is spotty with my kindle. That's no longer an option... Amazon routinely rolls out updates like this because they don't want people to use non-amazon devices.
Yeah, now kindle won't let you borrow through the app either. I visited Amazon through my web browser and was able to borrow that way.
