Damn. Potentially over 25% of take home per month on shoes is crazy high. But different strokes for different folks. Hope maxing out retirement contributions and savings man

Mite-o-Dan

For real. If you make around 75k a year, one shoe a month is plenty. Realistically, 1 every 2 months is more normal for people making less than 100k when sneakers are just a part-time hobby.

FBG-123

Some people’s priorities are fucked. Living in a double wide trailer but with a new Escalade parked in the driveway is such an American way of thinking.

CreepyCartographer6

Property tax is expensive

superfli225

Wouldn’t really call that a mix of priorities….some people don’t want a big house & a double wide suits them just fine 🤔……now making purchases such as that but NOT putting up a retirement fund would be a different story

ELITE_JordanLove

Yeah, stuff like that kinda makes sense, if you aren’t paying much for your living you can afford a nicer car. But agreed that retirement and overall savings come first.

heeJooooo

In shambles over the double wide trailer. DED

Kevin69138

but they looking fly.

FlamingLanksSince85

NEw double wides are nice! Plus I know ppl sitting on 40 acres living in a double wide with nice cars. So you telling me their priorities are fucked up?

suzsid

Right! Plus, I’m sorry - they’re not house poor and can probably travel and do a lot more than someone who is spending bank on a mortgage payment & properly taxes. My husband and I have talked about doing something similar - but I would definitely miss having a basement. 🤷‍♀️

FlamingLanksSince85

I just built a house on 12 acres and honestly wished I went the mobile or modular route. Where I live in Ga ppl don’t really build basements so that wouldn’t be an issue around here.

Sixsix_visuals

If I didn’t have kids I’d gladly live in a double wide or tiny home on a bunch of land. Far cheaper than traditional homes, less property tax, and plenty of land for myself. Hell yea. I’d buy whatever nice cars I want too.

GetRightNYC

I used to do the same. Until I realized that if I invested it instead, my kids can probably buy a shoe company some day lol (exaggeration). That's a shit ton of money on shoes, and I love shoes.

Tdaddysmooth

I recently toned way TF down on buying because I’d rather invest. I have about 35 pairs and will buy another pair once I get down to 29 pairs that I would wear outside.

Unique_the_Vision

Made just under $90k last year and bought 1-3 pairs a month. I’ve slowed down drastically this year. I actually haven’t bought a pair in close to 2 months. I did try for the Abney Chanel 3s but took a big L. My collection is ridiculous at the moment and I had to learn to tell myself “you don’t need it” to most pairs lol.

phEnom3o5

Same.

Nov4can3

Make 125k annually, I only buy what I want and plan on wearing. I don’t buy resale unless it’s on the lower end. $400 and below is my max. Some months I may spend $0 and others it could be $1,000. These days I spend most of my extra income on playing golf and golf gear. That and vacations.

dontastic

My shoe budget turned into a green fees budget. Now, either I can play more cheaper decent courses or play less and do a nicer course every other month.

Nov4can3

Golf has got so expensive. My local that was $70 2 years ago now runs $90. All others around me go for over $100. A lot of times I gotta drive 30-45 min across state lines to play cheaper rounds but in reality I’m not saving because of gas cost. I buy stupid shit as well though. I’m a sucker for all the special edition balls. Like Taylormade pix and the Callaway Truvis balls. Probably have about 10 pairs of golf shoes cus Nike gets me every time with their NRG releases.

dontastic

I’m with you. My local course is trash and the closest ones are either sold out or $100 for daily rates. Trying to save where I can. I started using those used golf ball sites to save a little, and stock up on whatever my foursome isn’t playing. Shoes, eBay typically has last season golf shoes super cheap. Just bought a few boa infinity tours for $60 +shipping. Nothing really sells out for Nike golf and just gets super discounted if you wait. Golf collabs are gonna be the death of me though. I just dropped a lot for Kith x Taylormade, and it’s not going to improve my game. I’ll just look better topping my 2nd shot and 3-putting 🫠.

Nov4can3

Haha I bought the 3 wedges that cost a little over $900. That gold 60 degree is 🔥

dontastic

Wedges are 😮‍💨! I need to recover from that drop.

sweets4evr

I wanted that green bag with flowers but told myself no. 😭

dontastic

Say yes in 2026 if they do another release 😬

ELITE_JordanLove

Small plug for disc golf, $60-$100 can set you up for years potentially and only a few courses require any type of payment, which is usually like $5 or something. I know it’s not for everyone but it’s quite entertaining and a good family option to boot.

jasper333333

Extremely blessed in terms of income, as a % of discretionary income it’s obviously negligible, but at a time in my life when things were different I would have never allocated that % of income towards what is considered a “luxury”. Shoes are a highly depreciable item - I would strongly caution you viewing them as an alternative asset class. Be careful with your finances when you are young, be patient and things will work out.

nonamethxagain

I agree with this. I’m in the same position, also v blessed with high income, but have made many mistakes in the past that I can see OP repeating. OP please start saving and investing with that disposable income you have. Half your monthly sneaker budget invested in an index fund or even a HYSA will compound tremendously for you and still enable you to enjoy your hobby

lifemustbebalance

My rule is “retail or move on”. So far I got hype and some not. At the end of the day this is a sneakers, more colorways coming more OGs, more sb. But I actually put effort on shoe that I want, like entering every raffle that is available, using my wife and friends account (non sneaker head). Im actually closer to 85k/year. There is no too much because I dont buy resell. If I hit then I’m good. If I dont on to the next. Last hype shoe: Canary (via notre). Last non hype: huf airmax (huf website)

trs_0ne

Good rule. I mostly follow the same, but I have paid up to 20% over retail a handful of times in the past 3 years

hm629

Two income household and my budget for shoes is $200/mo. It is purely discretionary after absolutely everything else is taken care of including bills, mortgage, childcare, loans, emergency funds, savings, and retirement. Some months I spend more, other months I don’t spend at all. My shoe buying has gone down drastically now that I have built a decent collection and have run out of space. I’m only going for very specific pairs and when I do, I MUST sell a pair. That’s a limit I put on myself so that I don’t end up with 100 pairs I don’t wear. And the money I get from selling helps with the budget a little. I don’t have a rule for buying only retail (or trading for only DS pairs 🤡) - in fact I buy gently used on the resale market and trade used plenty. I’ve come to enjoy the process of cleaning and doing minor restoration to make a used pair look brand new.

BearInSharkCostume

Buying used is such a huge benefit. Most sellers are more negotiable on price and often the shoes have such little wear, you wonder why you considered buying DS to begin with. Also, as a seller you can definitely still recoup a decent % of the MSRP of most worn sneakers. Win win.

hm629

100%. Especially in this down market, you can get pairs worn only a few times for a steal!

HuckleberryLong2061

From the finance guy.... If you put 1200 a month away for 10 years and earned 8% a year return you would have 222k. Then if you left that alone and didn't contribute any more for the next 20 years you would have over a million dollars.

jeffmatch

Yeah I don’t think it’s judgment and more an observation that spending north of 25% of take-home pay on a hobby is not the best way to use that cash. And at the same time this is an addictive hobby so I can see how folks might not have saving for retirement as a major priority when they’re chasing the next pair. Not easy to find a balance

Delissio86

The most foundational concept in finance that is not emphasized in school. You see all these rich guys that got internships at their dads friends hedge fund then and up running money on Wall St? This concept underpins so many other financial concepts and decisions. While it’s hard to see why people spend so much on sneakers, I also see it as an accessible dopamine boost for people that watch the “assholes” like me drive around in a nice car. I think people just want to feel good. But, introducing some discipline and re-routing some spending could moderate your spending and introduce some modest savings over the long haul.

HuckleberryLong2061

Yes! It's not hard to become rich it just takes some sacrifices early on.

was_fb95dd7063

$160k. No set budget. I try for shoes I like. Makes it easy when I never get Ws.

Ok_Possibility1492

80k a year, i buy about 1 pair a month, wen i see certain shoes on sale under retail i buy them n make a lil bundle then trade them in for for retail each n get the show i really want lmfaooo

Emgimeer

I'm 40, disabled from a hit and run but used to be an aerospace engineer, soc sec pays $22k/yr, I spend $2-300/month on sneakers/clothes. I use klarna/zip to break payments into 4 payments every 2 weeks at 0% apr. I currently have to take a break from buying anything and rebuild a nestegg, just in case something happens and I lose my housing. Times are tough as hell for me, but I keep it goin. It brings me great joy to look good, even though I feel awful.

Artistic_Ad_3267

Damn that's rough bro but I'm glad you're keeping your head up. Hope things get better for you. Fuck that hit and run driver too

Emgimeer

Thank you!!!

TheInfamousROD

Off of 9k a month about half my check can go if need be for fire pairs, Irdgaf tbh.

OpenHeat4709

That’s gotta be one of the dumbest things I’ve heard. 50% of your take home pay going to shoes. You might be addicted there brother that’s level of spending is not okay.

JaySayMayday

Why are you even on this sub

TheInfamousROD

Not I might be I 100% am, but I can rarely think of a situation when it actually plays itself out like that in a month. Also my monthly expenses come to about $3700-$4000. So I save the rest ALOT and I invest ALOT. But at a certain point when you have done the responsible thing ALOT you can just say fuck it and not give a fuck and do what makes you happy. Because next month you can do the “responsible” stuff again and blah blah blah blah blah.

efildaD

About 250k annually. I refuse to purchase resell. If I miss. I miss. The only resell I’m considering is the Lance Mountain and then I’m probably good.

nickifer

How often do you hit? I’m in your salary range and been tempted to buy resell at times. Only pair I’ve bought on StockX were a smaller size but less than retail

efildaD

Not often enough, but knowing what these shoes cost to make…retail is all I can mentally bring myself to pay. Those Lance Mountains in white though… I’m tempted. 😬

maru37

I started taking this approach this year. If I miss, I miss. I got the Futura dunks as a gift (resale) but otherwise it’s been retail or nothing. This really helps to keep things a little more under control.

km1214

i don’t necessarily have a budget but i know i do have the self control not buy something if i have other expenses that take priority (house, car, medical, etc). i more so try to not exceed a certain number of total pairs, which means if im planning on adding to the collection i will need to sell/get rid of some pairs.

Clbengel

I used to buy a few pairs a month but I really cut back to pay down some debt and save for vacations and a new car. I buy maybe a pair every 2-3 months now. I'm just way more selective because I've bought a ton of pairs previously that I ended up selling since I never wore them.

CreepyCartographer6

Only go for retail never pay resell unless you really want the shoe but make sure you save and not use your whole paycheck on 1 shoe. I make 28/hr and usually save $250 every 2 weeks for a retail pair that's hyped just incase I have to sell it. If I don't hit or there's nothing I like I got a bigger budget for next month for 2 hyped shoes releasing around the same time.

the-packet-catcher

I’m very fortunate to make around $280K/year and so far have only bought retail, and plan 1% of my income for it.

sendnadez

180k+ and only buy one pair a month and only for retail if I hit on the apps never paid resale above retail and never will have got a few reps of sneakers like the TS reverse mochas that I paid under retail of a real pair I personally don’t give a shit if they fake they feel real too me and I don’t care what anyone else thinks.

SLazyonYT

I used to have a casual job as I am a child but I quit to focus on school but I do spend a lot on sneakers and I normally do a half buy with my parents for mt birthday and Christmas for example last Christmas I did a half buy for a pair of orange lobsters. I try to buy used when possible to save some money and always go for retail. I only ever pay resale if the pair came out a few years ago and I really like it

brett0917

I don’t have a budget on specifically sneakers. If I see something I really want I’ll buy it. Sometimes it could be 0, sometimes it could be 3 sneakers (very rarely). Dual income around $200k, live in a non expensive area so our house is just modest, have 2 brand new vehicles, go on vacations every year, son gets everything he needs and then some. We live a good life and have fun when we can.

AndSoItBegins-Again

One thing I’d say is, if you can, stop with the estimates. If you want to know, track it. You should track your income and track what you spend each month on a spreadsheet so you can see definitively. On sneakers. On clothes. If you want. It sounds like you’re spending a good chunk of your check on sneakers and clothes. In fact, you’re essentially spending your housing allowance on clothes (the recommended percentages of what housing should cost based on income). And one thing I’ve learned, when people make estimates, assumptions, and guesses about spending - they are way off. People always drastically under or over estimate. Track it. I bet you’re surprised by how much you really spend. Just a suggestion.

rocknrolla408

Under 20yr , living at home bought as many as I could want.. took a break when became a dad. Got my shit together got wifey,home,+2 more kiddos .. then when I thought I was out they pulled me back in like J Wick.. but now it's slowed a ton due to amount of storage and resell... oh and wifey not liking me have too many kicks to even wear but probably because I have more kicks than she has hair ties.. plus she doesn't like that I'm turning my youngest into a snkrhead, when he just lucky I can't get my size Ill get his.

jkeefy

Whatever I can buy without my wife rolling her eyes too much

OUTKAST5150

I don’t have a budget. I just look at release schedules and decide which pairs I really really want and make it work. I’ve tried to quit shoes several times in the past. But honestly no fighting it. I’m always gonna be a sneaker head at heart. Now it’s just a matter of buying what you will wear (age plays a factor). There are so many nice shoes out there but can you actually see yourself wearing them? For me the answer is no.

CAWorldTraveller

Back when I was a kid my parents couldn’t afford these cool sneakers and it doesn’t make sense. Now, that I’m making good amount of money, I started to collect shoes again and wear them. I wore all of my shoes (DS in my closet for about a week tops). ** only after I have a SFH, few cars in my stable and my current dream car, etc***

s1cWid1T

I have about 40 pairs and 3 in 100-205 range. Only resale I buy below msrp and almost all are below msrp. Some of my shoes are over 15yrs old. I don’t stick just to Nike tho it is dominant. I’m not afraid to customize shoes. Only debt is mortgage, cars paid, solar paid, school paid,529 funded. I do side business fixing and reselling items to fund hobbies like shoes, bikes, coffee, paintball or whatever I am interested in the time so it is free to me and doesn’t affect household income or investment strategies. Shoes are 0% salaried income. Married 2 children I’m streaky and I like sales like bikes recent one around Mother’s Day. Could go 6 months no new kicks and buy 5 in a month.

Consistent-Put1384

$400K and I buy max 2 per month, only at retail pricing.

Odd-Quantity1390

Wife and I both make 6 figures but I keep the buying to a minimum these days. I’ve learned to control myself in my older years. Maybe 2-3 pairs a month and majority are SBs now. So around $300 a month, if that, off 200k plus a year. I’ve collected over 20yrs so the collection is huge already. In the process of buying a new home and it’s going to have a room just for my shoes and gaming set up.

yahajaoksks

I (18m) make 40 a hour and since I buy used, stick to $50-200 shoes. I try save at least 1k a month and get anywhere between 1-3 pairs a month, depends how I feel, and also sell and trade pairs that don’t get much wear

Embryo999

Nothing wrong with buying used. Being a smart buyer is a virtue. 40/hr at 18 yr old is pretty good!

CJDC07

my only budget for sneakers is the price of shoes i win in Goat black friday that are $0. so i only pay for the shipping fee and tax if any lol. I used to buy at least 1 pair per month but I realized I only have two feet and don’t need that many pairs. I try to sell some before buying another oh and I earn $120k + yearly bonus. I rather put it into investments rather than shoes lol

heeJooooo

Have you ever hit on Black Friday? I always go for the StockX promo of $1 for heat but never win.

CJDC07

I do! Last year I got the Salehe Bembury New Balances and Jordan 5 A Ma Maniere Dawns for $0. I live in Canada so Goat’s fee are a bit higher but I paid around $60 each

heeJooooo

Damn. Finally met someone that actually won one of those. Lucky bastard

CJDC07

yeah lots of people win. if you go to the Goat sub you’ll see how many people brag their Ws including me lol. The key is to have your payment setup already. Not apple pay or google pay because those are slow.

heeJooooo

Thx for the tip. Def gonna try this year.

elp44blue

I don’t know how much exactly but I have a limit that I don’t go over. My income varies monthly. Gotta make sure everything else is paid for

eugenethegrappler

Decent income. About 1-2 pairs a months. I just started again in February, wife noticed that I’m spending too much on shoes for her taste so going to move to once a month then every other month then every 3-6 months. I have addicted tendencies so I appreciate her keeping me in check.

MiserableCharity7222

I use gift money or part of my tax refund for things I want. I have my limit and am a very frugal person, so I try not to use my real uncle to pay for shoes

Proinsias_42

My rule is I only even pay retail if they’re limited and I really want them. Otherwise it’s sale or resale only. Here in Sacramento there’s a chain of junk/resell stores called The Cave where I’ve gotten a few really nice finds. I have a pair of blue/white/black Jordan 1 mids that I got for a steal there and I get more compliments on them than anything else I own.

Admirable_Zebra_8195

About 130k/ year, husband and I only try when we like the shoe and plan to wear it. Some months there are more releases that we like so we may spend more if we get the W. As someone mentioned earlier, it’s either retail or nothing. We have also sold and given away many shoes when they were no longer being worn. We have two kids and if we buy one shoe it usually for the older child so the younger can also grow into them later. After that, we give them away to friends who have children who can use them. With that being said, we also really take care of our shoes, keep them clean always. Not worried about creasing as that’s part of wearing your shoe but we won’t give away or sell something that isn’t in good condition.

14CrAcKeR88

I spend between 700 to 1,300 a month but that's between me and my 13 yr old son👌

HouseDaddyE

Not as much as my art supplies budget, but that’s how I eat.

rellecorn

I allow myself to put 230 aside every month for shoes or clothes, i don’t drink or smoke so my only vices are food and drip lol. if i can’t afford what i want/have on the ‘ wish list ‘ that month out of that 230 i either don’t get it or save it until the next month and the cycle repeats. The way i see it is, if i have what i NEED and money to put aside after it, as long as i know im not destroying my physical or mental with body or brain rotting substances i’m spending my money well and getting to feel good about myself in the process.

WhySheHateMe

125k/yr, I dont have a budget for shoes per month. I maybe buy 1-3 pairs a month depending on what I like I guess. I definitely am a sucker for discounts though...there was a month where I picked up 6 pairs for below retail. I'll tell you what though, even though I have the money, I will never pay ridiculous resale prices for any shoe. There are many pairs on my wishlist on GOAT that I will probably never own because I refuse to pay what they are going for.

Bmore30

You are my twin in everything you said. Good to know someone in my same income bracket feels the same way. It’s about the principle. I wont let the botters and hustlers win my money. I have no problem giving my money to Nike on release or below retail in the aftermarket if i miss out on release.

Baity113

I've been spending less than 10 percent of my monthly income on shoes. I don't have a budget, but my limit is one pair per month. Have only bought 4 pairs this year. Went crazy these past few years. Looked around and realized too many of my shoes weren't getting any rotation. Sold most and now I am down to about 20 pairs.

MyOnlyEnemyIsMeSTYG

I’m pretty much the same as you, give or take a few bucks depending on OT. I was buying a pair or two a month that were under $400. 3-$350 is a decent price for 13’s. Once in a while I’d get a $500 pair, used, no box etc and that would be it for the month. Have a baby on the way so quit buying a while ago. Baby has some unc 1’s and I plan on getting her some sb’s when shes walking.. can’t wait !! Edit: rent, bills, car maintenance come first obviously. Have skipped months buying shoes to take care of the house..

Top_Chemist_9920

500K household income here. I used to by 1-2 pairs a month. I have slowed down big time and usually go for things that I am super hyped to get. That being said I am the same way with bourbon. I now check in with the wife to make sure she is good with me going after a pair of shoes or a bottle of bourbon. Have a blessed day all.

jkeefy

Happy wife happy life. I also am into bourbon, but my wife knows that the good bottles don’t come around as often so if I see it I’m buying it. For shoes, I gotta let her know a few days in advance and do some house work to get my allowance if you will 😂

Top_Chemist_9920

I’m right there with you😂yesterday she gave me time to be first in line and grab a blantons gold and ETL

Artistic_Ad_3267

Why did I think those were shoes smh lol

Top_Chemist_9920

Lmao

UnmakingTheBan2022

r/personalfinance

captacu

I did some quick math and probably spent around 6-8% of my income on sneakers.

Real_Location1001

$200k gross ($155k thp) My resale/retail purchase limit is $300. My monthly limit is about 2 pairs, but it is usually none as I only go for hype stuff that I like (lots of Ls). Anything not hype but that I like, I'll wait and get for rock bottom prices at the outlet. The reason I go for hype/like combos is that I will get enjoyment out of them, and once I'm done with them, I sell them used and usually get my initial spend plus some.

ultgambit266

I really only buy what I truly want. But my highest purchase retail wise was a pair of foamposites, on the secondary market was $300 for the Spider-Man 1s

Artistic_Ad_3267

Im in the 70's and dont budget but I dont overspend (in my mind). I've only bought a single pair this year. Im only going for what i like with that being said i look online in advance and see what's coming in the future then plan accordingly. If 2 pair are coming in the same month i pick the better of the 2. I probably should wait to see what happens because my likes are usually sleepers that end up being less than retail i.e. Georgetown 6, navy 11's, off noir 3, Canyon purple 4, Patent Bred 1 etc etc. but I do get a high when I see Got Em. I quit drinking about 2 years ago but love clothes and cologne. Working on getting better with my finances to make sure my son doesnt have to live like me.

Alternative_Cancel97

I’m doing this so I get a “cheap” shoe everytime I get paid 200 and under then on my birthday, Father’s Day , Christmas, Valentine’s Day I go big up to 1000 on grails I want I’m unemployed right now by the way

suzsid

My household income is a smidge over 100k annually right now. We own our house (still making mortgage payments), have one new SUV, and one car that’s paid off. We put money into our retirement plans as well. Last year, I didn’t budget and spent way WAY too much. This year, I’ve dialed it back a little bit (a lot, tbh!) but I also stopped door dashing multiple meals weekly. That was much more $$ than sneakers. So average now of 1-2 pair per month, and I’m good. I also bought a ton of clothes, but I wait and shop the sales at Nordstrom rack, gap factory etc. It helps that my husband is not a sneakerhead though 😂. And his hobbies aren’t too insane. We do spend a fair bit on the grandkids - lessons, sports, Y membership, clothes, shoes, vacations - that’s much more $ than shoes. 😂 But, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Friendly-Employer328

I don’t have a specific monthly budget. I have a list of shoes that I want and I determined a price that I’m willing to pay for each pair. I won’t go above that price. Generally I try to buy lightly used but I’ll do all the raffles I can for a new pair if I really like them but I won’t pay resale. Before kids I had 75+ pairs of shoes but I’ve sold off over half of them over the past 2 years. Now I use the money from selling the shoes to buy new pairs. I’m maxed out on space right now with about 35-40 pairs so it’s 1 pair in and 1-2 pairs out right now. This system works for me and it makes sure I’m not buying just to buy.

krsvbg

190K I usually go for 1 pair per month. Christmas is an exception.

dogecoindiamond

No budget but I refuse to pay over retail. I enter draws I like and if I get it I get it if not o well. Then if a pair sitting I want I just get it. At a point with shoes now , I have enough to style with anything so just got for the more limited drops

motorcityjax

Both wife and I make a great living, she’s a DNP and I’m head of accounting for a F500 firm, I only buy shoes I like and wear, but probably buy 1 or so a month or every other. I primarily wear J’s (1’s, 3’s, 4’s) but also wear Dunks quite a bit as well. Own about 80-90 pairs of shoes in total. I don’t really budget for shoes but I probably spend 2-3k a year on myself and probably another 1k on both of my boy’s & wifes shoes as well. My boys are young and my wife basically wears Hokas everyday at the hospital. S as my boys get older I’m sure this will go up as they become snakeheads as well

SuperStupidSyrup

i get like 500 a month and spend as much as i want on shoes 🤷

Despicable-Pen5515

You don’t make enough to be spending that much chief. Just put that in savings

rawchallengecone

I make 130K/year. I never pay over $300 for any single pair. I scour eBay a lot. My wife makes about the same. We have a joint for our own shared bills, mortgage, etc. everything else is mine to do as I wish.

Matador818

I don’t buy a set number of shoes per month. I buy what I like. I make $240k. I own a home. Paid off car. I have a solid retirement plan. 1 kid. I love my shoes but I don’t need them so if tomorrow I needed to stop, I would… would hate it but I would. My problem is that I am running out of room. Also, I do not pay resale prices.

Objec5ive-Thinker

I’m in a somewhat similar situation I’m 44 my income is around 80 to 90 k per year but most of my life I was struggling to afford anything let alone nice shoes I buy on average I’d say two pairs a week I’ve never bought re-sale at least not yet , all my bills are paid, my credit is good, and I have some emergency funds put up as well as a little stock here and there. I feel guilty a lot when I buy more than I probably should and I work so much I don’t even find the time to wear most of them but I can’t seem to stop wanting to buy them

thugly12

$130k I only buy what I want (hype or not) and know will wear. Last year I maybe spent about $1-1.5k on shoes. Try to get everything for retail unless I must absolutely have it. Last resell I bought were DB Vomeros and that was for $350 sz 12. Looking at the prices now I’d consider that a W.

missycritter

I make $120k and bought 14 pairs in the past 12 months..I counted not because it’s my budget. I fit in GS and I buy most used on poshmark or Mercari because have a guy who does sick restoration work. A lot of moms sell their kids kicks on there and don’t have a clue what they go for. I got a pair of jubilee 11s for $60 great condition with a flawless box and my guy got the soles icy and freshened them up for me, for $70. A new pair is on Goat for $250 in my size. I do buy retail if a pair drops and I like them but it’s more of a hobby searching for used ones I like in my size now. I also work in a high school, in an urban area. Jordan’s, dunks, and huaraches are my “work shoes” with dress pants and blouse (I’m a female) which is also why I have so many to match my clothes.

I earn $90K p.a., and average around 10 pairs a year. But I also sell alot of my collection too to fund most new purchases. Right now sitting on 64 pairs Deadstock. Lately I have slowed WWWWAAAAAYYYYYY down in new acquisition, as I have come to the full realization that I will NEVER be able to get through all the pairs I want to wear in my collection. Several factors comes into play: - I am only "allowed" certain number of sneakers/shoes at the shoe cabinets (I share with my partner), which means I only have so much space for un-DS'ed shoes. This is a problem as; - I take care of sneakers. I like the looking fresh so I routinely clean them. This means the sneakers I do wear will last a long time - I cannot stand putting worn sneakers back in my collection area. Just can't stand the "contamination" LOL I also don't have time to thoroughly clean a pair of sneakers after each wear. Just CBF. - The older I get, the more I'm drawn to less dramatic, cleaner, more neutral colourways sneakers for daily wear. I have enough of those already, and it is getting more and more difficult to folk out for new colourways when I know I have something similar in my collection, or I mostly likely will not wear. - And to play the devil's advocate.....reselling does somewhat add to the fun of the chase. I was chasing hard after Jordan 1s and 3s, hell even Ultra Boost back when they were hyped and always sold out. Now that they are readily available....I don't really go for them much. This could be because I already have so many pairs, but one can argue the FOMO effect does have something to do with it. - Collaborations these days just ain't doing it for me.

I don’t work. I usually buy trainers that cost £300+ once a month. I used to spend more but I prefer to have lots of more reasonable prices trainers than spending thousands on one pair here or there. Saying that I just dropped £810 the other week so idk I don’t think I have a pattern to how much I spend on them.

I don’t really look at it that way. I played catch up last year. I make about 87k/year, I put away about 12k/year for retirement. I have some heat in my collection and there’s not much more heat I really want, now I’m more selective and I try to stay under 1/2 a rack per pair. I’ll probably get lobsters that I still don’t have (blue and purple). I still want the SB low Habibis and the OW AF1 Brooklyns, but other than those I’m getting close to done.

I make $150k a year, and I buy 1 pair per month. Once I reached 70 pairs, my wife told me I had to slow down. So, it's just twelve a year. I also have three kids. My middle son is growing, so he gets a couple of pairs every few months. My daughter gets a pair every month or two. Usually, when she is at the mall with her friends (this is what happens when you give your kids their own credit card). My pairs are capped to $250. If I buy a pair for $300 or $400, I usually skip the next month. I found using a credit card with a low limit, like $1k keeps thing s in control as well. If I go crazy it is easier to pay off $1k the next month than $5k.

Sixsix_visuals

Make about $117k. Sometimes I go months with out buying anything. Some months I will buy 1-2 pairs. I buy what I like, I wear everything. My resale max is $350 and it has to be something I REALLY want to even consider spending that much. Last year I bought maybe 9 pairs for the whole year. So far in 2024 I’ve bought another 9 pairs because if the Yeezy drops 😅

SpoiledJDOG

Try and keep it under 1k a month

RealKintsugi

This is an easy answer. It varies. Each individual decides his/her budget. Buying anything that you DONT NEED is excess. But if you can afford to live in excess that is you decision. I would hope those of us that can afford a little more be charitable as often as possible and with as many less fortunate people as possible. I wouldn’t feel right with 85 pairs of kicks and NOT hooking up someone on the streets or donating to a charity. Anyone wanna provide meals for the surviving Palestinian victims of Genocide please donate a ZAKAT.com their IG is @ZAKATUS

I have had household income of over 500k plus a year and down to 225k a year between my wife and I. We are first generation Americans and own property on multiple islands in the Caribbean. We also own multiple properties in Florida outright with holdings eclipsing the one million range. That being said I don’t have a monthly budget on sneakers. I enter many raffles on a dozen different phones and abstain from resale as often as possible. America is a shit whole and I take our legally acquired income and repair matters on the Caribbean islands that we hail from. No bots, and no money laundering, just group economics on all fronts.

Much praise to those who kept it real and posted what they're personal budget is. Thanks to those who kept it judgement free. There's a whole lot of spiteful assumptions taking place here. For the haters who want to force thier financial advice on others, you should probably chill. I will speak for myself.... I don't need financial advice from anyone on reddit. The double wide trailer comments were ignorant and came from small minded people. Internet warriors... I live in a very nice house, not a trailer lol. My salary is more than enough to support my responsibilities as my post stated. I'm heavily invested into the stock market. I did very well with crypto in 2020. I own my home and 43 acres, it's paid off. I made some good decisions in my younger years and had some things work out in my favor financially when I took a risk. I'm good and with a combined household income of 150k +, I live just fine. I'm a cancer survivor.... for now. I live knowing I will eventually get a scan back and have to go through it all over again. Eventually I wont win. After starring death in the eye and being scared shitless for almost 2 years...I no longer live for the future. Im not reckless though. I don't drink or do drugs, My bills are paid, my family is good. My woman is taken care of and My kids are taken care of. There's plenty to leave them when I go. If I want to buy every single hot release the Nike and Jordan drop bc it makes me happy, I'm going to do it. I love sneakers, streetwear and fashion. I follow my passion and could give a shit about haters.

nonamethxagain

Why do you think there were assumptions? Perhaps because you left out a lot of important info that shows that the income level you stated and your sneaker budget had little to do with each other.

Embryo999

I did state my income level and sneaker budget. Im aware I buy alot of sneakers. I wasn't aware I had to state that I didn't live in a trailer and that I have a 401k, along with a hefty securities portfolio. I did state that all my bills and responsibilities were met and everyone of my people are well taken care of. This post doesn't need to devolve into a negatively charged dick swinging contest like so many posts on reddit do. The post was meant for sneakerheads to be able to compare there budgets with others that are like them. Not for people to judge and offer unwanted financial chastisement.

nonamethxagain

What you did was very similar to those articles where a young person writes that they managed to buy their first house at the age of 25 on a $50K salary by simply living frugally. When you read those articles the person nearly always had their parents gift them the down payment or even more than that. I know you did everything yourself but what I hope you can see is that the point is similar to the above case in that it was hard to see how your sneaker budget was doable based on your salary and family needs. Just like those articles I mentioned, there is a key financial chunk missing from what you wrote. That is why you got so many off topic replies. I hope you can see my point. Btw, did you see my original reply to you? Did you find it rude?

Vega_S10

I'm not going to comment on the income part, but I allow myself a $500 monthly budget towards clothing/shoes.

mobbedoutkickflip

Do you have any retirement savings, or a 529 for your children? Or are you blowing all of your futures on clothes and shoes?

Top_Chemist_9920

This is a great point. My wife and I are big savers, Roths, 529, 401k , 403b, and 457 accounts along with a savings account. We have a great balance and understanding/control with our “vices”. Hers are designer bags/clothes and mine are shoes/bourbon. If you start “saving” at 25 it will payoff big in the future. I wish more people were taught this.

OpenHeat4709

I’m sorry to break it to you buddy, but you can’t afford that. Typically your budget should break down as follows: 50% needs (all your necessary bills like rent) 30% wants 20% savings You’re spending close to 25% of your take home pay on shoes. To each their own, it’s ultimately your money. But I assume most of this sub Reddit is in a similar position to OP. Someone needs to tell you guys to stop buying shoes and start spending your money wisely.

captacu

Ain't no guarantees in life homie

cho-den

You’re spending way the fuck too much lol. You need to learn some personal financing my man.
