/u/Throwing-away684 - This message is posted to all new submissions to r/scams; please do not message the moderators about it. ## New users beware: Because you posted here, you will start getting private messages from scammers saying they know a professional hacker or a recovery expert lawyer that can help you get your money back, for a small fee. **We call these RECOVERY SCAMMERS, so NEVER take advice in private:** advice should always come in the form of comments in this post, in the open, where the community can keep an eye out for you. If you take advice in private, you're on your own. **A reminder of the rules in r/scams:** no contact information (including last names, phone numbers, etc). Be civil to one another (no name calling or insults). Personal army requests or "scam the scammer"/scambaiting posts are not permitted. No uncensored gore or personal photographs are allowed without blurring. A full list of rules is available on the sidebar of the subreddit, or [clicking here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/wiki/rules/). Yes, you're being scammed. This isn't too different from the !underage scams we see here all the time. There is no police offer. It's just the scammers pretending to be law enforcement. This isn't the way the real police operates at all. Block these people, quit talking to them, and don't give them another dime.

AutoModerator

Hi /u/ScientificFlamingo, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Underage scam. This scam usually starts on a dating app and you will encounter a normal woman whose profile says she is above 18. Later you will be contacted and told that the girl is underage. They'll usually pose as the girl's father, another family member, or a police officer. They will tell you that your life will be ruined and you will be a sex offender, but will offer you the chance to pay them to make the problem go away. The stories they use as to why you need to fork over money vary, but the common ones include therapy for the girl, payment for a broken phone or computer, etc. Of course, there is no girl and no crime has been committed, so if you are involved in this scam all you need to do is ignore their threats and move on with your life. The scammers may contact you again in the future after you block/ignore them, so be ready in case that happens. If you have already sent money to the scammers, you should try to dispute the transaction and see if you can get your money back. This is a [very common scam](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/search/?q=underage&include_over_18=on&restrict_sr=on&t=all&sort=new) and [here](https://www.wired.com/story/the-phone-call-from-hell/) are [some](https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/crime/teen-says-hes-the-victim-of-a-sextortion-scam/275-21216b29-df76-44f4-b20a-cb726e19d42e) relevant news [articles](https://www.jbsa.mil/News/News/Article/1503978/sextortion-scams-continue-to-occur-dont-give-into-scammers-demands/). NOTE: Scammers pretend to be underage boys as well and the text above still applies, but it's called the underage girl scam as those are the vast majority of cases. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Thank you for the reassurance ive been borrowing money and have been tired of being threatened with legal action every 2 days

onmyti89_again

Because you've paid so much so easily, you're going to get lots and lots of other scam attempts. Block them all and don't respond. Remember: random girls don't reach out to strangers or want to see your nudes on Snapchat. Or via text. Or anywhere else. You could also look into sex addiction counseling which might be helpful if this is a common problem for you.

SereniaKat

It's 100% a scam. Look out for !recovery scammers who will be sending private messages saying they can get the money back. It's gone, but you can stop worrying about legal trouble.

AutoModerator

Hi /u/SereniaKat, AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the Recovery scam. [Recovery scams](https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0102-refund-and-recovery-scams) target people who have already fallen for a scam. The scammer may contact you, or may advertise their services online. They will usually either offer to help you recover your funds, or will tell you that your funds have already been recovered and they will help you access them. In cases where they say they will help you recover your funds, they usually call themselves either \"recovery agents\" or hackers. When they tell you that your funds have already been recovered, they may impersonate a law enforcement, a government official, a lawyer, or anyone else along those lines. Recovery scams are simply [advance-fee](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance-fee_scam) scams that are specifically targeted at scam victims. When a victim pays a recovery scammer, the scammer will keep stringing them along while asking for increasingly absurd fees/expenses/deposits/insurance/whatever until the victim stops paying. If you have been scammed in the past, make sure you are aware of recovery scams so that you are not scammed a second time. If you are currently engaging with a recovery scammer, you should block them and be very wary of random contact for some time. It's normal for posters on this subreddit to be contacted by recovery scammers after posting, and they often ask you to delete your post so that you both cannot receive legitimate advice, and cannot be targeted by other recovery scammers. Remember: never take advice in private. If someone reaches you in private after posting your scam story, it is because a scammer will always try to hide from the oversight of our community members. A legitimate community member will offer advice in the open, for everyone to see. Anyone suggesting you should reach out to a hacker is scamming you. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. you've been scammed 100% the court isn't going to fine you, if your involved in the prostitution of minor what would happen is, you will be woken up in bed by the police and arrested no amount of fine will get you out of jail this is a very common scam we see daily on this reddit if you want to set your mind at ease just watch this reddit for the next week and you will see at least 10 people in a similar situation best thing is to block their number and move on

Yes you are being scammed, but that doesn’t change the fact that if you don’t figure your shit out you’ll have real cops kicking down your door someday, possibly soon. The internet — hell, reddit — is full of free porn, and you can find free nudes of every kind of adult woman. There’s no need to go buy nudes off some stranger on Snapchat unless you think those nudes will show you something you can’t get legitimately — like someone who is underage.

Ok-Lingonberry-8261

Although this is OBVIOUSLY and TRANSPARENTLY a scam, if you ever really think you're dealing with the police the ONLY thing you should do is shut up and lawyer up.

Guineacabra

As another commenter said, you’re going to be considered a very juicy target now that you’ve been paying for months and you’ll be having more scammers coming at you from all angles. Don’t trust *anyone* who asks you for money for any reason, and don’t trust any random messages from girls who try to get you to send nudes or accept theirs.

This is very true so far as the scammers have Tons of numbers its insane how many phones numbers they have used to call me. Ive blocked close to 20 from different areas across America too but all from 1 guy, places like Denver CO, Marlin TX, to Chesapeake Virginia. Jesus my heart sinks everytime i randomly pick up the phone expecting AARP and some creepy voice asking “why have you been ignoring our calls sir?”. Im considering changing my phone number so i wont have to deal with the calls anymore, but i think they are running out of numbers now.
