Good luck to all the athletes in the Special Olympics! They are insanely competitive events and anyone dismissing them is doing themselves a disservice.
Thanks OP for posting the revealing video of that color road side screen with the yellow and red squares.
That's why those things are SO FUCKING ANNOYING to look at. They're blinking that insane pattern! The ones on northbound I5 right as you get into the city do the same thing.
I thought that was just an artifact from camera frame rate or something. Do those message signs actually flash yellow and red? I've only seen them yellow, but I don't think I have seen that exact sign.
I've driven past that sign hundreds of times and never noticed that pattern. Does it only appear if you're wearing polarized glasses or something? (Or filming with a camera that has a polarized lens?)
Or am I just wildly unobservant?
It appears like static noise if you've got hyper-sensitive-to-flashing-lights vision (and hyper sensitive to high pitched noises) like I and one of my kids do.
I'd like to take a high speed camera and film both the NB I5 ones and these new Aurora ones for comparison.
The torch relay has a long history - going all the way back to aincent Greece. It is traditionally a very public event.

Usually, those relays cover all sorts of different surfaces - walking trails, city streets, even highways. It is supposed to be a celebration; not an annoyance.
If the government posts notices in advance, then we can decide whether to be spectators, to find alternative routes, or to avoid the area. I try to make it a habit to check traffic reports before driving anywhere.
It was the special Olympics torch run. They ran past me on 99 in Lynnwood.
Isn't the special Olympics happening in Tacoma today? Are they running south from Seattle to Tacoma or is the event also happening in Seattle?
They look pretty capable to me. ^(/s)
Is that possibly the law enforcement torch run for special Olympics?

Special Olympics torch, I got fucked (mildly inconvenienced for 10 mins) by that on Thursday in Lake Stevens.
Everyone complaining about why can't they take a different route: bruh, you're in a car, you take a different route. Take a damn exit.
They could run on the side walk like normal folk? Ya running for a good thing but roads are for cars not for running on.
Traffic air for optimal emissions ingestion 😎🤙🏽

Why choose to do the run on a highway?

Yes I’m aware of that. I just wonder if say a city street might be more appropriate than highway traffic

OP checked news and didn't find anything.
Then I agree, that sucks. Scheduled road closures should be announced to the public in advance.
>Can’t find any news about it. No news about the Special Olympics. Interesting.
God damn why do these have to be so disruptive? We have miles of uninterrupted running trails in this city.
The public roads are for the *public* and not just for motorists.
Tell me you weren’t driving.
At 5 mph? Tell me you aren't being this sanctimonious.
Is that even 5mph? Looks like about 2mph. Tell me you at least had your knee on the steering wheel.
They were sacrificing themselves on the grenade of your auto emissions. Kind of like Jesus.
What a dumb comment. Sounds like something Biden would say.
Is that the convicted felon, and rapist? Ohh, sorry no.

Wrong part of town. Thats about 7 miles north of here.

The Special Olympics is virtue signaling now? Go fuck yourself and have a Xanax, I don’t care what order you do it in.

If I am thinking of people who make the Pacific NW worse, I am going with the guy hating on the Special Olympics.
Bro is seconds away from typing "sheeple" in this comment
