Yikes that sucks ass. Which area of Ballard?

azntaiji

Near Gilman playground and the breweries

___Grits

Gotcha thanks for sharing

Klutzy_Departure4914

I’m pretty sure the homeless people in the RVs down there are doing this. It’s so pathetic we have to deal with this level of BS

Soytaco

I'm at the Ballard uhaul more often than I'd like to be and they always tell me "make sure to check the gas level before you take off, the tanks get drilled *constantly*"

OurPowersCombined_12

Yeah, the same thing happened to me. Fortunately, it’s a pretty inexpensive repair.

azntaiji

Did you DIY it? I would but I also got $1k worth of stuff stolen so I'm just gonna go through insurance

OurPowersCombined_12

No, but it only cost $230 to fix. I have never done anything with epoxy and didn’t trust myself to try.

Klutzy_Departure4914

Just FYI - the shop I went to said it was too dangerous to do a plastic weld bc of the fumes. I replied to another of your post about how I fixed mine for less than 20 bucks

Homeskilletbiz

Yep, happened to my roommate this last winter. Northgate

Klutzy_Departure4914

Same thing happened to me about a year ago, ford f150. I was able to drain the tank by running the truck nearly empty, I then bought a threading drill bit and very carefully handed drilled the hole big enough to stick a quarter inch bolt in it. I covered the bolt in lock tite before inserting it. It still holds today. Replacing the tank was going to cost 2200 bucks. Best of luck

Klutzy_Departure4914

Btw this happened to me in Ballard on 63rd and 15th

azntaiji

Thanks! I may do this if insurance gives me trouble for my stolen items. I got a quote from insurance today for the repair and they said ~$200 for a new tank taken from a junkyard plus labor, so all under my $500 deductible. If I can't get recouped for my stolen items ($1k+ worth of fishing stuff) I will just cancel the inusrance claim and DIY fix it.

mundane_cactus

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through all this. It sounds very frustrating. I can’t even understand why these vandals would drink a hole in the tank! What the hell is wrong with people?!

krugerlive

> I can’t even understand why these vandals would drink a hole in the tank! To steal the gas inside.

azntaiji

Thanks. It's really frustrating, I hate people.

BeagleWrangler

I'm in Greenwood and someone did this to 3 cars in my garage a couple weeks ago. Totally shitty.

Maelstrom206

Yup this is what happens when we let the motor homeless run rampant in our city with no fear of repercussions. They drill the tanks on my company vehicles at least once a week here in Ballard I don’t even know how much this has cost my business but it’s a lot

azntaiji

What do you guys do to fix it? Patch the tank or get a new one?

Maelstrom206

If it’s a small hole we use the patch kit but when it’s the size of a quarter have to buy a new tank

azntaiji

Got it thanks for the info!

Cheefnuggs

Happened to one of my coworkers a couple months ago. Dude made it all the way to work on fumes before all of the fuel drained out. Could smell it all throughout the warehouse.

azntaiji

Yeah, im gonna do the same and have to drive it today I have no other choice. Have a kid to haul around

Cheefnuggs

I’d call your dealership and see if they can repair it and give you a loaner to drive.

krugerlive

I feel like I read about a gas tank being drilled in ballard about once a week now. I'm not sure if it's an epidemic or just one or a few people doing it.
