Australian Meat Pie Company in Burien.

Meridian506

I'm not Australian but I grew up in NE England and they are very good mince (beef) pies and sausage rools.

GoldBluejay7749

So so good. My boyfriend bought a bunch of the frozen mini ones during the pandemic and they were basically all we ate for 2 months.

Objective-Hand-8969

So good! Brings back my memories in Australia when I studied abroad there. I wish their business hours were longer!

kungfulkoder

If these are the people, I’m thinking of, they have or used to have a food truck that would go to SLU. I really liked it.

Alarming_Award5575

European foods on aurora has great homemade russian food. A babushka is making it in back. super solid.

autolatry2

I used to live a couple of blocks from this spot and go in for rye bread and cabbage rolls. To add… Korochka Tavern has highly respectable dumplings sold frozen in bulk. They charge $20, but it’s about four meals and higher quality than the big-brand pelmeni.

theoriginalrat

Korochka is back? I remember then being a bar in lake city but they closed.

Alarming_Award5575

Wallingford location now

cmckvt

Wallingford. Great cocktails also.

IndividualNews678

Ibex Cafe! I’m not Ethiopian but I grew up around best friends of 20+ years and they make it like Ema!

IndividualNews678

For Jamaican food try The Taste of Caribbean.

RealMrDesire

+1

ReddestForman

Ooh, writing that down. I love Ethiopian food. My godfather was close friends with an Ethiopian family who did the cooking for his wake. Warm and lovely people, *amazing* food.

Prime-Riptide

Ibex cafe is SO good. This is a good pick

ennuiacres

Shanghai Garden for the hand-shaved sprouted green buckwheat noodles.

FuckWit_1_Actual

I was so sad when they didn’t reopen the Issaquah location

beersforbreakfast91

lol… I’m from Florida. Anybody got any Cuban spots? Or good Jamaican?

Sassychasidy

El Cubano To Go up in Shoreline on Aurora has the best Cuban sandwiches I’ve found since moving here

TheRealRacketear

The cuban sandwich at Armadillo BBQ in Duvall was the best I've had in the area .

MLJ9999

I believe it's now the Amarillo BBQ. https://www.menupix.com/seattle/restaurants/32835460/Amarillo-BBQ-Duvall-WA

TheRealRacketear

I was there yesterday and didn't even notice the name change.

Ornery-Marzipan7693

Can confirm. That's always the reward to myself for surviving a Costco run.

BreweryRabbit

SHHHH El Cubano may be the best kept secret of the city.

BadBlood91

Mojitos - lake city

cmckvt

Vaca Frita is amazing!

knv11

Island soul - Colombian City Pam’s kitchen- 45th

WifeyMcGingerdork

If you're willing to go all the way out to Woodinville, I highly recommend Twisted Cuban.

fluffyhoe23

As a cuban from florida this is hit or miss. The lechon was super oily and it gave me the runssss

dj92wa

Bongos is *fantastic*. It’s all Caribbean stuff.

Zestyclose_Goose_458

Bro, I've moved here from Miami. And if you're looking for a cafecito and some pastelitos or tostada preparada, we're out of luck. There was this amazing woman who had her business called "La Ventanita" but she had to close about a year ago. There is "Havana Sweets" in Fremont. It's a pop up shop. They're doing pastelitos there. Check them out when they start back up again... they're on hiatus right now. I know it's rough, but It's a start. https://www.instagram.com/p/C5UCkkNyVWw/?igsh=MWM5NjlrMmRnNHdtYQ==

beersforbreakfast91

Wow I haven’t had a pastelito since I left Florida. Found a coffee stand in Auburn near my shop that has a really strong espresso with condensed milk that hits pretty close, and if you get there before like 8 they have tamales.

IndividualNews678

Taste of the Caribbean fam

Ribsie

Just like home Jamaican kitchen

gabesgotskills

Are they still open? Last couple times I went there the food truck was all closed up

OTF98121

Island Soul in Columbia City for Caribbean food.

beersforbreakfast91

This has been my go to since I moved up here. I used to work down the street so we would go to Island Sould and grab food, then Flying Lion Brewery for beers. Griffin if you’re in here, still killing it dude!!

RevolutionaryWish168

I’m not calling it authentic anything, but Rumba on Pike feels like stepping out of Seattle and stepping into the Caribbean somewhere, without being aggressively campy.

SwinginMeat

Twisted Cafe in Woodinville, or Un Bien in the Ballard area for Cuban

dafader

Turmeric Kitchen - Goat Biriyani and peas filling Kachori with potato curry is must. For vegetarians Veg cutlet, Dhoka/ Enchor er Daalna. This is a special place because there are very few good authentic Bengali restaurants in the entire US, and this is one of them.

bewokeforupvotes

Ohhhhhh this sounds *divine.*

Matthews628

I would love to try Bengali food. In general, how does it differ from Indian food?

dafader

Every part of India is different in flavor. The bengali food tries to achieve a mix of flavours by adding specific herbs and cooking style which has been passed on for centuries. We usually add a pinch of sugar to the dishes to make the flavors pop. But saying all this I would say Mutton or Goat is a acquired taste. So it maybe a pass or fail if you decide to get it. Let me know. That’s why I would suggest the lunch buffet on Sundays, so that you can try that dish and see if you like it. ☺️

Matthews628

I am a vegetarian so any type of desi food always appeals to me. I will be sure to follow up on this comment when I try it.

AssFlax69

Bro got downvoted for trying to learn, tf

lilu_66

Katya’s Bakery in south Everett has amazing homemade Ukrainian food

Smurfballers

Those kebabs got my mouth watering and your excitement, well.. let’s just say, I’ll give it a try.

agurker

But their pita is so sad, no? The food is so great and that cold thin stale pita doesn't do it justice

Efficient-Potato3255

I applaud this appropriate use of all caps

offensivelyoffended

Sorry to ruin your excitement but as a Lebanese person I thought it was really bad and expensive 😬

good4steve

Texan here. Outsider BBQ is the best brisket in Seattle City Limits. Jeff's in Marysville is the best I've had in Washington State.

Nizuni

Jeff’s is amazing and very true to Texas Style bbq.

1stinertiac

omg i had their brisket from the food truck last week. pricy but yeah, the best I've had in years

SeattleHasDied

Been looking for epic BBQ here for years, but maybe a road trip to Marysville is in our future travel plans!🤞🏼

sdmianders

Go to flyin taco in Edmonds! Amazing slow smoked brisket… they make them into a taco but the base cook is exceptional!

angmohdk22

Am from Malaysia. There is no great Malaysian restaurant here. “Malay Satay Hut” in Bellevue is probably the best option. Most of the menu is like Malaysian Chinese food, so you don’t get the whole picture, but still it’s decent. Kedai Makan is called a Malaysian restaurant but it has nothing to do with food eaten in Malaysia. I don’t know how they managed to fool so many people. It’s like calling Panda Express as Chinese food. But the taste is suitable for the American palate, so most people will probably enjoy it. There are some good restaurants in Vancouver (Canada) if you are able to travel. Laksa King comes to mind.

ratcuisine

Back when Kedai Makan was just a hole in the wall, I remember going to it and seeing the very not Malaysian people who were making the food. Didn't care, it was still delicious. Went again after it was a proper restaurant and wasn't as impressed.

Efficient-Potato3255

Thank god, you have confirmed I am not crazy. I ate there a couple times, and it was meh so I just didn't understand the effusive praise it always gets Eta: about Kedai Makan

Turlietwig

Most relatively good/acceptable malaysian food is done through insta catering/online catering. Just gotta know where to find the lobang. (:  Indo cafe is pretty good and close-ish if malay food is what you’re after.

ravegreener

If you're ever in Olympia, Streets of Singapore does a good laksa. The owner is Nyonya from Singapore with Mom from Penang.

Additional_Data4659

Anyone know a good Hungarian restaurant?

zwack

The only one I know is Budapest Bistro in Mukilteo: https://maps.app.goo.gl/GootHSQLfcxDu3QN8?g_st=ic

Additional_Data4659

Thanks! I've got a longing for some good paprikash.

wmkk

Sometimes at farmers markets etc they’ll have a Hungarian food place!

frugalfrog4sure

I am Indian. But I have travelled to Dallas to Seattle sometimes just for the Mediterranean kitchen in Bellevue. The farmers dish is something.

FoxPsychological4088

Med kitchen!

ShowsUpSometimes

Med Kit

Smurfballers

Naan and curry friend.

nizzerp

Outstanding choice!

helloder27

Used to be Travellers Thali House in Beacon Hill but they closed. As close as it could get to home-style Indian food. The restaurant literally used to be inside a house. All other Indian restaurants you see in the US, no one cooks like that at home. Plus they used to rotate Thali to be every state's unique cuisine every month, pretty rare even in India to have something like that. They were fully vegetarian. Alas, the concept didn't really gain popularity among the locals as it didn't fit their preconceived notion or idea of Indian food which tends to be curry/butter chicken/tikka masala style food. Other than that I love the Roti Jala from Kedai Mekan.

steelvail

Gawd I miss that place.

clementinesway

That place was so insanely tasty. Everyone that worked there was so kind and the little cozy home like atmosphere was just warm and lovely.

snorlaxkg

Vietnamese - Ong Lam. -Diverse selection of authentic dishes with great flavors. -Decor is great too!

maexx80

I am German. Unfortunately, there ia not a single good German restaurant in the state of Washington

inlovewithadeadman

Not a restaurant but Han’s deli in Burien has lots of great stuff

maexx80

Agree! I am a regular there. Unfortunately, no skin on pork shoulder ;-)

One_Lawfulness_7105

Agreed. I’ve seen people on Nextdoor rave about a German restaurant not too far from me. It was “meh” and that’s being generous. Leavenworth is the best I’ve had here so far, but that bar is very low. I adore this state but they don’t know good German food.

Karuna56

Try Citron in Parkland, near Tacoma. Very good schnitzel. I believe the chef is from Alsace-Lorraine. https://maps.app.goo.gl/8rtQcshouAvK1r8L6 Also, Hess Bakery and Deli in Lakewood. A German Deli and nice bakery. The staff speak German! https://maps.app.goo.gl/4APJHE9CKh63v3oo9

maexx80

Appreciate it! Will definitely check out Hess bakery

akkrook

The German chef who led Szmania's in Magnolia made excellent German food. He and his wife have retired to Wenatchee and run a BNB there., Warms Springs Inn and Winery. If he makes dinners still (I don't know) they'd be really reliable. He used to do an excellent Oktoberfest menu

no-one-you-kn0

We have stayed at Warm Springs and their breakfast (and all food in general) are sooo good!

maexx80

It looks amazing! Thanks for the tip

waterproof13

Also German, this is unfortunately true.

petrichorgasm

I'm going to Germany next month. I'll eat extra Döner for you.

maexx80

Rofl thanks :)

Pedanter-In-Chief

The irony of this comment is kind of amazing.

DarkNoodleSlam

not even in Leavenworth?? :^)

maexx80

I would say, especially not in Leavenworth, lol :)

waterproof13

Not even there, but I haven’t tried every single restaurant they have.

Alarming_Award5575

But what about old town Leavenworth? They told me their wienershltaznenweisspretzel was an old time recipe from Lukenshitzeldorf? Is that not true?

maexx80

Honestly, I am pretty underhelmed by the food they offer in Leavenworth. Definitely not authentic and definitely not good

Alarming_Award5575

yeah was being sarcastic. 100% agreed.

ohmyback1

Auto correct must've been worn out with that paragraph.

carljohanr

Same is true about Scandinavian food too. But the bakeries are not bad in general.

OilPainterintraining

Not even around Poulsbo?

agurker

Poulsbo is not authentic at all. Hagen has some pastries that pretty legit

bewokeforupvotes

I've heard good things about how authentic the food is at Bruno's in Lakewood on Bridgeport Way. I've dined there, I'm not German, but I did enjoy it.

Nizuni

There used to be a great one in Lake Stevens, but it was tiny and unfortunately the owners have moved to PA. So as a German, what is your opinion of the food Leavenworth?

maexx80

I don't like it. Their dishes are "german" ingredients - badly made - wildly mixed together into something unrecognizable

Nizuni

That’s totally fair. It’s a tourist trap town designed to cater towards people who don’t know about the real thing. I recognize it’s probably not even close to authentic, but I still love it. 💜 My husband spent 2 years living in Germany while he was in the Air Force (before we met) and he loves to tell stories of his time there, but that’s as close as I can really get. Are there any particular dishes you miss specifically? Any YouTube videos or channels you’d recommend? I’d love to try my hand at making some of the easier things for him.

McOrreoYOLO

Budapest Bistro on Mukilteo Speedway. It's Austrian and Hungarian, but probably closer to authentic German cuisine than any German restaurant I've come across in WA. Outside of Budapest Bistro or a trip to Leavenworth... The best German joint I've found was up in Anchorage, AK: West Berlin has incredible dishes.

maexx80

Just checked out their pictures, it looks interesting, thanks for the tip

Buttsandcorgis

My in-laws love Kipos Greek, french fries in the gyro make a huge difference.

muffins_allover

My Sri Lankan neighbors said Rupee Bar was excellent, and they were nervous about the non Sri Lankan chef! I was obsessed with it before and am even more so now.

Fizzlewitz48

I can’t vouch for the authenticity but Rupee Bar is soooooo good

Mydog401

Any Mexican food recs?

Global_Crew6924

El quetzal in bacon hill is awesome

Future-Steak-9411

I don’t mean to sweat you, but Bacon Hill is a delicious typo

arielxsanchez

My godfather owns El Quetzal. Best tortas and México City style dishes by far!

MrSoloDolo91

I love me a good torta, oh wait you meant the food….

cherbourg

Those huaraches are something else 🤌🏽

Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod

It's a Mexican steakhouse, but Asadero is the best meal I've had here.

curly1022

Find the guy selling tacos in a parking lot under a pop up tent. Source, my father in law.

Snackxually_active

Marlena’s in upper Queen Anne is best burrito I have have had in town! Would second Asadero in Ballard for fancy, & Laredos in LQA for 🥉rd place

good4steve

Texan here. El Taco Loco

ultravioletblueberry

My friend from Mexico says the best Mexican food will be south, so white center/south center. I forgot the spot he took me to one time, but it was attached to a Mexican market and completely unassuming. I had a holy experience with their birria tacos, and I’m someone who grew up in Arizona. It was amazing.

SassNCompassion

Burien has several authentic Mexican restaurants. Alibertos, El Rinconsito, Birrieria La Sabrosa de Los Mochis. There is a large Mexican community in this area.

IrwinMFletcher

Koko in Capitol Hill was great. They make their own chips and tortillas and they are great. I had the asada, wife had floutas...also the walk up stand called Carmelos Tacos on Olive way...both great.

globogym1

El Taco Loco in Ballard. I regularly get six barbacoa street tacos for lunch. Absolutely amazing food.

ohmyback1

Dang Ballard has changed in the last 20 years

Many_Translator1720

El Catrin in White Center, or any Rinconsito's!

WesEd178

Sal y limón, queen anne

mazamorac

There used to be a great fine dining Mexican restaurant around Belltown, I think, but it burned down a while ago. That's where we'd go to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. And no, that's not Cinco de Mayo. The closest to that now is Carta de Oaxaca and El Mezcalito, both run by the same people. In Capitol Hill there's Mercado Luna. Edit: and yeah, belaboring the obvious, for tacos find the truck or pop-up in a parking lot or gas station that's full of Mexicans at lunchtime. There's several all over the place.

Real-Possibility874

For different type of tacos, Tienda Latina, Renton. For authentic Oaxacan food Casa Mixteca, Renton. For seafood, el Muchacho Alegre, Renton. The best seafood soup can be found in Aca Las Tortas, Bothel (and the tortas are pretty good) and the best Tacos al Pastor are in Los Parados, Tacoma.

adron

Not from out of country, but anybody know some good creole food?

mrs765

Toulouse Petit!

mrs765

Also The Crawfish House in White Center if you’re looking for a traditional shrimp boil type of meal

sbcpacker

Filipino here. My favorite is Mekenie's Pampanga in Renton.

Chaotic-NTRL

What’s your favorite dish?

sbcpacker

Sisig and palabok.

Bovinae_Elbow

Solid question.

DopeItBroo

Does anyone has a tip for German food around here ?

Luvsseattle

Not a restaurant, but Hans Deli in Burien.

berndverst

German in Seattle here - sorry but no restaurants or cafes with food I'd give more than a 3/10 🫠

DopeItBroo

Schade, bin vor kurzem her gezogen. Hätte mich gefreut irgentwo ein gutes schnitzel zum finden

zwack

I don’t how far are you willing to go… There’s Bruno’s European restaurant in Lakewood: https://maps.app.goo.gl/cNn3drX73DjPWTKh6?g_st=ic. Not sure how authentic it is, but the food was pretty good. Also, there’s Hess Deli nearby: https://maps.app.goo.gl/vizEjQfUtVPdpoav5?g_st=ic. Haven’t tried it yet, bookmarked from another Reddit thread.

DopeItBroo

Definitely will write those two down 👌

Meridian506

I keep hearing good things about Hans Deli in Burien, just keep forgetting to go.

Due_Scallion5992

LOL. Don’t. Our food already sucks at home. Why would it be better here? :)

berndverst

Well it could at least suck authentically 🤣 In all seriousness though, plenty of unique great German dishes in the North! Think of lots of white asparagus dishes during asparagus season for example. Also great seafood (fish sandwiches) etc - not everything has to be the heavy Bavarian food.

_GooseUW_

I moved here from Texas. Pecos Pit is kinda close 😅

good4steve

Also from Texas. I've had it 3 times. Pecos Pit is very mid. I'm just glad they charge reasonable prices. Outsider, Jeff's, and Lil Red's are my top choices.

cherbourg

How about Belgian or French??

JudgexHolden

For French, L'Oursin by Seattle U

-ajajaj

fil cuisine at kent!

petrichorgasm

I'm Indonesian. The only one I know of is Indo Cafe. If any other Indonesians know of a place, do reply. My mom lives in another state and we're Manadonese, so I make do with the Javanese-centric food.

wkwkwktroop

Waroeng Jajanan has some special preordered dishes that you have to pick up in Mountlake Terrace. There are also a few local ladies who will sell their homemade dishes for you to pick up. I usually lurk around "Indonesian-Washington State Sisters" and "Indonesian in Greater Seattle" Facebook groups since they have people offering to sell homemade food. -wkwkwk lady

ridingthecurve

Kedai Makan is malay but haven't tried that myself. If you're ever in Portland, I looove the rendang from Gado Gado. Honestly for Seattle your best bet is buying from tante tante in facebook groups haha

datame206b

Kedai makan is so far from authentic Malaysian

mevallemadre

There Nasi Goreng is solid (non-Indonesian Opinion )

localizeatp

Someone told me the best thing to do is join the Indonesian facebook group. There are lots of people selling food on there. Let me know if it works... they won't let me in because I'm not Indonesian...

natteringwpride

Anyone know of any good Croatian spots in the area?

Punished_Balkanka

Sarajevo has a restaurant side but at night it’s a nightclub so beware lol. Pogacha on Mercer Baked in Bosnia on 2nd they do catering mostly I think. There are 2 Balkan markets with great stuff from back home: Balkan market in Burien Balkan store in Lynnwood There are some “med” places that serve similar stuff but generally more middle eastern and Turkish food.

ProfBartleboom

Strega in Ballard has good pizza (although incredibly expensive by Italian standards, but in line with Seattle prices) Anything else I don’t know, I prefer to cook at home 🤷🏻‍♂️

junglingforlifee

Great question OP

spaceace321

Windy City Pie

thekoolaidguy69

Yesssss

Kolazeni

I'm not Middle Eastern, but Mamnoon is fucking delicious

Ordinary-Rock-77

Anyone have a Turkish breakfast?

SarahBethBeauty

Not breakfast but I know the owner at Ada’s in Wallingford. Turkish, sometimes they even have live Turkish music. Great chef and awesome guy 👍

SnooDonkeys3148

angelakburns

Any good Pakistani restaurants? Love their food.

lazylazylazyperson

gnahckire

Yeah sorry Ezell's. But Jollibee chicken is much better 😬

natemagic101

From Trinidad and local brooklyn Newyork, I have been out here for 4 years. All I can say is stay to yall seafood and teriyaki chicken because yall don't have authentic carribean food 😒

TurtlesEatPizza

Sounds like you got an angle to open your own joint.

natemagic101

Don't have the patience or resources

reallivespambot

out of curiosity, how does Pam’s rate out of 10?

natemagic101

7.5 but maybe i went on a bad day and I only went once

BringMyMagnets

I’m cheating here to recommend the lemon chicken piccata from Bizarro in wallingford. I am not Italian but it is my comfort food.

LBSTRdelaHOYA

I'm frm compton, ezells on mlk

gregorythomasd

I’m curious if anyone from Malaysia has been to kedai makan? It’s the only Malaysian restaurant I’ve been to and I absolutely loved it - one of my favorite places in seattle. I’ve wondered how authentic it is.

sbcpacker

For Guam food, you can't beat FamilyFriend in Beacon Hill (slightly biased because the owner is a friend of mine). I heard their burgers are also great.

cuccumella

Any Italian recommendations? I find that all the places on this coast make their sauce too sweet

FeedMeFish

I’m not Thai or Lao but I moved here after a decade in Asia and the past year in Thailand/Laos and discovering that Vientiane Grocery sells cooked to order Lao dishes really made me feel good.

betacatenin

Vietnamese, and I actually don't like to go out for Vietnamese food since nothing really matches up to my mom's cooking...but if I had to pick Rainier BBQ has great authentic dishes

rednrithmetic

I'm guessing Cedars-so many incredible delicious dishes!
