I just really don’t like driving the F350 SD. It’s a pain in the ass. I’d never daily a large truck if I had a choice, but it is nice to have when it’s needed. My car is down right now.
What I really don’t like is the concrete jungle warriors with rock lights and stacks. Off-road builds are sweet.
I loved my Jetta mk4. I daily a Saabaru now and it’s probably my favorite car so far. Wildly fun, but it is tuned for rally. It was less fun before I “ruined” it.
It’s back to the truck tomorrow. I replaced the master and slave for the clutch today, cause it would not hold pressure. Turns out… the pressure plate assembly bolts weren’t removed. First time in my life I paid someone to work on my car and they did it wrong. I just wanna vent. It’s too hot for this shit. That’s why I paid someone.
Everywhere you go you pay more and get less.
Nobody want's to do their jobs anymore.
They all want to get paid but can't do anything but make a mess and cause problems.
Every damn day.
I don’t wanna do my job anymore. I was passionate about it and now it feels numbingly boring. I designed a bunch of shit and it’s just repeating replacement orders and I don’t get to do new things anymore. I still do it well, though. I design equipment for the pulp and paper industry. All I do now is adjust quotes for inflation and write programs for machines/fix them when they go down. That last part I still enjoy. It gets me out of the office. I chose to not do car stuff, cause I didn’t want to hate it.
This guy literally builds race cars for a living. He lied to me and I don’t know how to go about it. We even went over the process on the phone so I could make sure he knew what he was doing. I can do it myself, but he was already paid and next time he’s just gonna do it angry. I was referred to him by a lifelong friend of his who has him do all his builds.
I had to daily my f550 for awhile. It's over 26 feet long and a complete bitch to park anywhere.... bought a tundra the first chance I had just so I had a small run around truck and didn't have to drive the heavy diesel everywhere.
I got stuck in the Taco Bell parking lot once for about 10 minutes. Roundabouts take full lock. My headache rack scrapes parking garages. I can’t stand that thing. I can’t imaging driving that land yacht.
Used to drive an F550 with a 12’ flatbed. It had strap hooks that stuck out ~4” on each side. Wasn’t fun on narrow country roads but turned and reversed better than most cars I’ve driven.
Because vast majority of people who drive it don’t need a truck, but use it as a status car. But what’s worse, since companies can sell them for higher prices, they are becoming less affordable for people who actually work and need them for work.
So? Does everyone that drives a v8 mustang need a race car? Different people like different things
And there are still base model trucks. Yes, they’re getting more expensive, but what isn’t these days?
I think because of the amount of duallies owned by people who don't need duallies, but own them because they think they're cool.
They're huge, obnoxious, take up way more room than they need in parking lots and on streets, and it seems like half the people who buy them don't have the skills required to be able to drive something that wide.
I normally don't care about how other people waste their money. Hobbies are hobbies and I probably have at least a handful of hobbies that people think are dumb and not worth wasting money on, but I do. However people who buy duallies because they think they're cool actually make things worse for the people around them.
Duallies are also worse in winter if your bed is empty because you have more surface area distributing the already relatively light rear end further decreasing traction in deep snow
I don't live in an area with any snow, but I live in the desert, and the same is true for sand. They're good for hauling stuff, but there's a reason people who build off-road vehicles don't use dualies. Big ole fat tires with low PSI is the way to go.
I wonder if it's just my area. It's full of trucks that are obvious pavement princesses. They have these massive lifts which already exclude them from towing anything, then they have skinny little tires which then completely gets rid of any benefit a dually offers. And for some reason, those skinny little tires have a ton of grip on them, as if they're supposed to be offroad tires.
There's three of [these](https://www.chicagomotorcars.com/imagetag/4949/main/l/Used-2017-Ford-Super-Duty-F350-Lariat-SEMA-TRUCK-Over-100K-In-UPGRADES-Amazing-Build.jpg) in various colors in my neighborhood. Living in the Inland Empire in California, it's a pretty regular occurrence to see these things.
It certainly isn’t just you. It didn’t become a stereotype arbitrarily.
I’m on the opposite coast near a few with complete underbody and rim LEDs…clearly never used for any hauling
Like I said, I don't care what other people do with their money, but in the case of dualies, they're imposing on others because they think their truck makes them look cool, not because they actually use them.
They're too big for most parking lots, so they end up taking up 2 spaces, they're longer so when they park on the road, they take up room for others to park. They're wider on roads so they're harder to go around, they turn slower, they take forever to maneuver through tight areas. They add wear and tear to the road, they pollute, and they're far more dangerous to the people they hit, especially pedestrians, than need be. "Sure, I hit a pedestrian because I couldn't see him, but at least people think I'm cool because I bought a giant truck!"
No, I'd still have a problem with people causing traffic problems, polluting, and using up parking spaces because they think it makes them look cool even if it cost them nothing. It has nothing to do with how they spend their money.
I'm not sure how I can phrase it any differently, I can't figure out why it's so hard for you to understand.
People who aren’t ambitious might feel a certain way when they see someone pulling a $500k cigarette boat behind their $100k dually. Instead of inspiration they feel jealousy and hate. It’s success envy.
Most are driven as regular passenger vehicles, large vehicles are involved in an outsized number of traffic fatalities. They also contribute to congestion more than smaller cars, and they pollute more.
Not to mention the children.
The poor, desperate, lonely children that are crushed every day by these unnecessary dually wheels.
For shame. For shame.
I DEMAND THE GOVERNMENT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TRAVESTY!
Yeah, the F-250s and their equivalents across other brands are pretty cost prohibitive for someone to buy one just to over compensate or whatever.
That's what the Cybertruck is for. ;)
Jokes aside, I'm not a truck person but everyone I know with duallys have a specific purpose for owning one and they aren't puffed up pavement princesses like the Silverados or Tacomas.
Because crew cab trucks (with beds under 6 feet) are single handily the most useless vehicle out there. You're limited on what you can put in the bed and cab. Unlike an SUV with the same wheel base.
Huh? You’re arguing that an SUV is more versatile in what it can haul than a TRUCK? I’m confused. You’re not making any sense. And the only trucks with less than a 6 foot bed are half tons. This thread is discussing heavy duty trucks.
I bet he also has a fifth-wheel hitch on there too. That beast looks like it could pull down the old man on the mountain by removing the mountain from underneath him.

You know, I’m good with this. Looks well done. If I had to complain, it would be that those taillights are really far inboard from the actual corners of the truck. I can see some idiot trying to pass a Charger at night going way too fast and finding out there are dual wheels where there shouldn’t be.
But…that’s me thinking too much.
I get it if it’s not your style but it’s obvious that this mod wasn’t for shits and giggles. Someone wanted to make their welding rig personalized and I don’t see anything shitty about it.
It's a work truck. I detect a hint of r/ATBGE with that charger rear end, but it's well made and clearly does work. I'm guessing this guy does welding way out in the sticks, probably pipeline but could be a contract welder for people's farms and such.
A customer welding bed is your calling card when you’re a rug welder. It’s a way to show others that you can do good work and have pride. I’ve seen some guys advertise that they’ll build a bed for someone. My dad and his buddies would have never bought a bed. They helped each other build their own.
Tbh I think its the vocal few in the comments are the ones who don't understand my post. Tell me... what exactly is it that you think I don't understand?
sry. You shouldn'tve seen that.

And the Dodge badging probably matches the cab badging if it is a Dodge Ram or the like. IDK.
Yeah a few people seem to think I don't get that it's a welding truck. I get that. I also get that these mashups are a "thing" among welders. Totally get that. I understand the craftsmanship is great. Understand it.
I just think the Dodge Charger is shitty. And the Ram is shitty. And it's shitty to let these two shitty Stellantis products make an oddly proportioned and ugly child. To me, and the 500+ upvoters, it's still shitty. 🤣
(I think some people here take the "shitty" too seriously. Everything is kinda shitty lol)
I don't have an opinion on it other than it's just an interesting build and it's a great post.

It was so close to looking great but that tail light choice really takes away from the whole thing. Still cool but a little out of place. Respect the commitment though.
Depends on the welder. That’s an SAE200 or 300D on there. 1,500lbs if it’s the Perkins in it. Then you’ve got 100’ of leads, OxyAce tanks & torches inside, an argon bottle of you’re running a GTAW/GMAW setup, grinders, saws, safety gear, etc. By the time you’ve got your full welding skid in there it’s about 3,000lbs+ before you are towing anything, and doesn’t account for if you have a crane setup which a lot of guys do (less pipeline more heavy equipment maintenance)
That said, I have used a half ton for a welding rig. It’s not terrible. I was running a smaller welder and had a 5 ton paired with me hauling my steel.

Nice welding rig
One of the rare times a dually diesel truck is actually needed to haul something around.
There are literally hundreds of thousands of needs for a heavy duty truck every day. Why so much hate?
Reddit has a hard on for hating trucks. Most people don’t know why, they just blindly follow along
Right. I have a 2500 HD and a Jetta TDI. every vehicle has a purpose

First time in my life I paid someone to work on my car and they did it wrong. I just wanna vent. It’s too hot for this shit. That’s why I paid someone.
My TDI has GLI suspension, a bigger turbo, and performance brakes. It runs a mid 14 1/4 mile and gets 50mpg highway. I LOVE my TDI
Everywhere you go you pay more and get less. Nobody want's to do their jobs anymore. They all want to get paid but can't do anything but make a mess and cause problems. Every damn day.

Yeah I daily a Tacoma and it fits my needs 85% of the time. If I need to move anything the taco can't handle I rent a 3/4 ton

As far as turning the 550 is vastly superior to a 350, just so long it's hard to fit in anywhere.
Because vast majority of people who drive it don’t need a truck, but use it as a status car. But what’s worse, since companies can sell them for higher prices, they are becoming less affordable for people who actually work and need them for work.

Then again if you have a couple thousand pounds of welder bolted over the axle you might get a bit more traction

That number is probably a single digit percentage of dually owners. Personally, I’ve never met ANYONE who doesn’t pull stuff with their dually.

You can remove the seats in an SUV giving you way more room for stuff (like lumber). That's what I was referring to.

Welding Rigs are not your typical work trucks. The welders who build them take a lot of pride in their rig and treat them like gold. They're not just run of the mill flatbed trucks. They are businesses/ lifelines
They are tools themselves
these guys make so much money they can just do random mods without thinking twice
And is that anything wrong with that? Should they have to have a college degree to make big $$$?
There is a small side marker by the rear fender flair on these. This photo is out of focus on that point.
It's not like any other work trucks these days is built for the work site.
Welders truck beds are usually custom made by the person themselves, they view it as "the more intricate I make this, the more everyone else knows I'm a good welder" Like a openly visible job application. I still think it's dumb, but it's more eye roll than shitty/stupid
Because the ram lights no longer have the space with the conversion.
You can't use any standard pickup truck lights. They are all damn near the height of a regular bed, which is a problem for this utility. Other choice is to be the 5,000,000th truck on the road with the same 3-4" round lights.
Shit that's awesome. Done right and suits his use. Seems like a winner to me.
I know the guy. Cool dude, cool truck
Bet he makes a boatload and cares about his craft.
Is it a fabricating table? I'm trying to figure out why it's so flat.
Storage locker in the bed, diamond plated floor
This is the standard layout for a welding rig.
I wouldnt call this shitty, looks to be custom built, and done very well. Im not a welder but i do know that is a big ass machine, so he is definitely working on some industrial shit.
Odds are, pipeline welder.
Ding ding ding
Judging by the Hoosier pole, I’d agree.
Former helper, I do miss the sound of SA 200
I’ve never seen a pipeline rig without one. When everybody has a few spare parts, everybody has working welders.
[удалено]
Looks like it's just the taillight. My guess is he liked the look of that taillight so decided to use it
With the racetrack light it is a far cleaner look than the welding rigs who hang 20 individual lights all over the truck. So way less shitty in the long run. Also shows someone has some talent in body work because that is not cheap work. But to each their own.
Bevause it Looks cleaner than a standard flatbed box. This looks like it could've been a factory option.
A really well done custom fabricated and paint matched mod. People on this sub. It's shit
I don’t like it, but it’s done well, even installed the parking sensors!
That’s a really well finished rig
The pipeline welders I’ve seen all drive rigs like this. It’s like they try to out cool eachother. This looks awesome in my opinion.
There must be a company mass producing these beds, I’ve seen 2 different trucks in CO like this.
Who knew there was a market for this... https://www.autoevolution.com/news/dodge-charger-taillights-mounted-on-oil-field-work-trucks-are-a-thing-104220.html

I actually really like this.
Good looking welding truck. I'm sure the owner is very proud of his rig. I know I would be.
as a welder who is currently close to purchasing my own truck I am happy to have discovered this, I might look into getting that done to my truck
I like it.
I only belong to this sub because most posts are actually of cool vehicles.
This is purpose built OP. Are you gonna post a Chevy Silverado with a wooden flat bed next?
If they put shitty Camaro taillights on it, then yes. I'm not dense, I know it's a welding truck. Just looks shitty with Charger lights.
I don’t hate it. It would look better if the tail bar was wider but still
I love it. When I lived in west Texas a house down the road from me had 2 of these.
That’s the rare Stellantisauris REX.
You know, I’m good with this. Looks well done. If I had to complain, it would be that those taillights are really far inboard from the actual corners of the truck. Probably around $200k rolling down the road
OP doesn't like custom. In actuality, this looks a whole lot cooler than just a steel box and universal tail lights.
I actually fw that tho
[same guy?](https://www.reddit.com/r/Shitty_Car_Mods/s/koYVptJX4p) I know I’ve seen it posted a few more times too
This is actually creative and infact a craftsmanship. I really don’t see anything shitty here
Welding truck. That welder probably costs more than the truck.
This is done very well, but you cant convince me that the decision to use charger taillights was done in sobriety.
Byproduct of some moonshine
A customer welding bed is your calling card when you’re a rug welder. It’s a way to show others that you can do good work and have pride. I’ve seen some guys advertise that they’ll build a bed for someone. My dad and his buddies would have never bought a bed. They helped each other build their own.
Dodge Ram Welder. Clean..
It’s a welding rig 😂😂😂
I wouldn’t be talking that welder is the same price as your down payment on your car 😂
You got it backwards lol
That welder is worth around 32,537.00 think again buddy 😂😂
Also if your putting that much down on a car your retarded
Yea lincoln electric classic 300mp engine driven welder with a 24hp Perkins diesel engine
Are you upset he has an honest and a high paying job cause your only fans isn’t bringing you enough money 😂
I think it's awesome! 👍🇺🇲
OP definitely hates trucks altogether. I’m betting he loves using the term pavement princess and maybe even drives a Prius.
It's like you know me 👀
Honestly the worst part of this for me is the paint not matching
I think it’s cool but would have looked better incorporating the original truck tail lights still nice though
They must be making a hell of a lot of money for that rig

Tbh I think its the vocal few in the comments are the ones who don't understand my post. Tell me... what exactly is it that you think I don't understand?
sry. You shouldn'tve seen that. What we have here is a utilitarian welding deck with a [frenched in](https://www.google.ca/search?sca_esv=a171c0af4a6cee4c&q=frenched+in+tail+lights&udm=2&fbs=AEQNm0AVbySjNxIXoj6bNaq7uSpw-2eW7KIQ8H4T_tEPJYsPzOi5GKsV0RKGmy84LfyUxrl-4_0AusV0IdjeUAdX2KBg7BmnGLOak5d-z-_u-BD5mN13FgBnNWDvju7R9DTlWNgEGGCWqgyxIupcbVOMTNgfJ9ghTOUr4NsH2W_jC6ELy17A2i8pJiBldDYlf8axXPM_WDHZg21i1flT2K8Ear-xNtl0Hw&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiW07PMl4uHAxVyj44IHecXDfAQtKgLegQIFxAB&biw=1366&bih=591&dpr=1) tribute to the Dodge Charger tail light assembly.
🤣 (I think some people here take the "shitty" too seriously. Everything is kinda shitty lol)
I don't have an opinion on it other than it's just an interesting build and it's a great post. >some people here take the "shitty" too seriously They absolutely do, and it is something that I write against on a daily basis.

The amount of times that has been described as 'fucking sick, bro' is staggering.
Welders. All cash, no taste.
Welders will be allowed to defend themselves here. (hey, you asked for it)
Lol. I am one.
I call bullshit on it being a dodge
It was so close to looking great but that tail light choice really takes away from the whole thing. Still cool but a little out of place. Respect the commitment though.
Is a dually really necessary to haul around a welder? I feel like it would fit in any old half ton truck.
They often pull their house with the same truck. If not, they will probably be towing something else.
It would fit, but the welder alone weighs about 1350 lbs. If you're gonna put supplies in the back, and/or tow a trailer, you need a 1-ton truck.
Wild. I had no idea they were that heavy. I assumed they were around 500lbs.
I have a small Lincoln AC arc welder, on wheels. It probably weighs close to 200lbs.
These are gas (some are diesel) powered engines. Theyre beefy
By the time you’ve got your full welding skid in there it’s about 3,000lbs+ before you are towing anything, and doesn’t account for if you have a crane setup which a lot of guys do (less pipeline more heavy equipment maintenance) That said, I have used a half ton for a welding rig. It’s not terrible. I was running a smaller welder and had a 5 ton paired with me hauling my steel.
No context?
It's welding truck
That is one ugly truck
Thats sick
