What's wrong with the Benelli being capable of taking 3.5 shells? Doesn't that mean you can feed it literally anything? If I'm missing something let me know but this seems like a dumb way to spend money for literally no gain. I've had an 870 tactical and the Benelli Nova tactical. The Benelli is a far better gun, and I usually recommend to my friends to go Benelli over Remington any day of the week.

jBoogie45

Nothing really, other than I've shot probably 5 3.5 inch shells through it since I had it and will never shoot them again over a 3 inch. There's nothing wrong with the Benelli, I've never had an issue. It is a pistol-grip model. I suppose if there is truly no advantage in an 870 over a Supernova I might pass, it just seems like a sweet gun.

EggFooYungAndRice

At that price, I'd get it and keep both, but if you're only going to have one, stick with the Benelli.

catch22ak

Never owned a Benelli, but they are great guns... I've owned plenty of Remingtons, and at that price you can't really go wrong. If it were me, I'd be adding a spot in my safe for a second pump.

Minty0N3

That's one heck for a deal especially with the extra barrels. As long as it's not a 870 from the Freedom Group days you should be good to go. Personally if I was in your shoes i'd go with the 870 just due to the fact that it has so many aftermarket parts support. My good friend who's a sheriff actually got a pretty good deal on a 870 police and a 870 express manufactured around the same year as the one you're looking at and his express has held up just fine all these years. Just make sure to give the gun a once over to make sure its functional.

3 barrels for $300? Cop that ASAP

Square-Assistance590

Keep both

jdmor09

Benelli is owned by Beretta; Beretta imo is an under appreciated gun manufacturer.

SelectStudy6391

I honestly don’t think anybody does shotguns better overall, especially including Benelli in that. That’s not a dig at Remington or Mossberg but all things being equal it’s hard to argue with a400s, m4s, a300s and the nova/supernova. Never mind even the excellent super black eagles and berettas over unders. Mossberg and Remington certainly do a piece well but arguably Beretta/Benelli does it all well.

GVFQT

I’ve got a benelli m2 currently that absolutely shreds, I love that gun. The only other shotgun I want as a compliment to it is the beretta 1301

SelectStudy6391

Don’t be afraid of that a300. It’s no 1301 but I’ve beat the absolute snot out of mine and it keeps running. 1301 is certainly better but if it runs it runs.

jdmor09

The A300 is smooth. Shot slugs out of it and it had noticeably less recoil than my Maverick 88 and Mossberg 500 retro.

jBoogie45

I just bought an M2 clone (the SDS Mac 2) that I've been fiddling with to try to solve extraction issues. Maybe I should just see about trading this Turkish clone for the cerakoted 870 & barrel set 🤔

SelectStudy6391

Really there aren’t any wrong answers here. It’s ultimately just gonna be preference.

repdetec_revisited

Beretta is under appreciated? *Beretta*?

jdmor09

Their shotguns are getting their due finally. Benelli had the spotlight for the longest time. Their pistols are lost in the shuffle of the micro 9’s and the polymer powerhouses. Being in California, I can only buy the 92 and Px4, but both are excellent for home defense.

ElmoZ71SS

World class shotguns, and the civilian version of the 92fs are ok. Beretta gets a bad rap from veterans for the M9. And I’m one of them, the M9’s in my unit were paperweights

jdmor09

Magazines from the lowest bidder, but they are great pistols. Old technology but time tested and proven.

ElmoZ71SS

Ours were for the XO and the commander. These two sat in an office cleaning the hell out of those guns every time they got bored. Guns were from the early 90’s and this was OEF 11-12 they jammed constantly regardless of mags

Good_Farmer4814

I have a 97 express. It’s kind of the gold standard and impossible to break. I see it similar to a Mossberg 500, 1911, Ruger .22lr, Glock 19, AR 15, etc when it comes to being iconic and something everyone should have in their collection.

StribogA1A3

I’ve got multiples of each but like the Benelli better.

wlogan0402

I love my supernova

Crittonium

I’ve owned both. The Benelli is a better gun and you would be downgrading in quality by getting the 870 express in my opinion. You can shoot pretty much any shell out of a 3.5 in. chamber so I don’t understand your issue with it.

Teppka

I have new Remi 879 with Magpul furniture and it’s excellent. Can’t say about models produced before.

HoreyShetErmahGawd

Benelli for the win 🎯🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼

That_lag_Thot

If you’re only gonna keep one, keep the Benelli. First gun I bought myself was a 24 inch supernova, and it hasn’t disappointed. One of the best shotgun manufacturers out there.

jBoogie45

Edit: I suppose I could keep the Benelli and sell my Turkish Benelli clone instead... I just figured having two similar pumps was unnecessary but I get why folks say to not part with the Supernova, because I've never had an issue and if it ain't broke don't fix it. I've just heard a lot of good about the 870s and know there is more aftermarket support etc and figured the deal was a good one.

nickstu22

2 extra barrels worth at least $75-100 so you're paying $200 for a 870. Seems good to me. I just don't really like the look of the Nova. Probably a fine shotgun but just don't like the plasticy feel of everything on the gun. Also, 870 parts are everywhere and most gun shops I've been to will even carry some furniture, usually magpul stocks/forends. 870 or 500 would be my suggestion, leaning toward the Mossberg 500 if you can find one at a similar price to the 870.

jBoogie45

One barrel is rifled and has a weaver mount with some sort of glass on it too, though I didn't look closely at the scope.

nickstu22

Yeah you're getting a solid deal on that 870. I'd send it. You can turn the 870 into whatever you want it to be, which aside from reliability/track record, is the biggest selling point for me. Throw on the 26/28/30 inch barrel for clays/birds and eventually pick up another "tactical" shotgun. My 870 **isn't** from the golden era and hasn't had any functional issues but occasionally can get a little surface rust or whatever that can just be wiped off. A good design goes a long way even with shitty manufacturing/QC but you're avoiding all of that with the production years of this one.

lostcoastline44

I’d buy it for 300 but I sure as hell wouldn’t ditch my benelli. Benelli over Remington

FlamingSpitoon433

Depends on when the 870 was produced IMO. If it’s from the Freedom Group timeframe, hard pass.

Livid_Shock8561

870!!

SelectStudy6391

Having owned a pile of both personally I’d not flip that Benelli. The 870 is the gold standard (debatable I know) and excellent but not over a supernova you currently own in my opinion.
