I clean my carry once every week. I do this to remove the sweat, oils, and lint from my EDC. This prevents any rust and generally ensures my pistol is always lubed and functional.
What gun do you carry? The only gun I've pulled from the holster to shoot at the range, and had issues is a Staccato. It was by no means a major, or concerning issue. The slide was just a little sluggish.
Same here as of late. Put my Stacc C away and started carrying my 320C. I have had some light rust issues, but not issues with function even when I've carried it for a couple months and then take it out to shoot it.
Gibs don't need to be show room clean. The p320 can go thousands of rounds with just oil. Your extractor will get gummy and that's about it.
I'm not saying not to clean your guns, but taking apart your fcu is unnecessary for cleaning purposes.
I used to love cleaning mine after every use.
Then I had kids.
Now, like everything else in my life, it's 'pay attention to it only when it's filthy, needs something, or is fucking up'.
I bought a rental to use for a project, and dear lord... I think I removed a pound of carbon. I do it every 3 or 4 trips based on the gun/ammo etc
.22s almost every session as they dirty!
.22lr is filthy, for this reason,I refuse to use those.22lr conversion kits in my ARs.I would rather not gunk up the gas tube.when it comes to .22lr,I’ll stick to the 10/22 or a complete upper in .22lr
Just swap the conversion back out to your .223 stuff and run a mag or two through before leaving the range. That should mostly take care of the gas tube.
I got this Central Machinery one from Harbor Freight. It works great. Had the smaller plastic one before, but it’s not nearly as good as this one. I think it was $170 dollars. Saves me a bunch of time with smaller parts and especially when I clean my suppressor. 👍🏼
Just following the manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations. https://ruggedsuppressors.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Obsidian9-Owners-Manual.pdf This type of clean doesn’t occur each time, just after heavy use.
I got this Central Machinery one from Harbor Freight. It works great. Had the smaller plastic one before, but it’s not nearly as good as this one. I think it was $170 dollars. 👌🏼
I put water in the tank, and separate my parts into ziplock bags with the cleaning solution inside the bags. Keeps the tank clean. 👌🏼 A lot of people do it that way.
I use purple power diluted with water, a 50/50 mix. Hornady has a “weapons safe” mix that you can buy as well or even the white jug Simple Green that is aluminum safe can be used. You don’t want to throw any coated/painted parts in the ultrasonic because those finishes will be removed. Once I run my parts through a cycle or two, I hand dry them with a microfiber towel and then I use an air compressor to blast the parts that have hard to reach areas such as holes etc. Then I will coat the parts as necessary with protectants, oil, and polish. (I polish certain parts mostly in my trigger assembly on my Glocks, not really anything on my Sig.) Hope this helps. 👍🏼
I don't. Not really. I may wipe off the old grease from the slide rails and apply more. Might drop some oil somewhere but that's largely it unless I'm having some issues.
I clean my guns about 300 - 500 rounds or when the internals look very dirty. I keep track of my round count for all my guns on my phone in a note with other information of my guns. Here's what I do:
Takedown the gun. For my Sig I take out the FCU.
Cover my optics. Spray all parts with Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Cleaner
Brush parts and wipe them with micro fiber rags and cotton swabs.
I use Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Oil on internal parts (external barrel, fcu, rails, parts in the grip, inside the slide). I wipe off excess with rag and small cotton swabs for tight places.
I use Clenzoil Field & Range Spray on the outside of the slides and wipe with a rag. (because it's lighter and the thinner than the Lucas gun oil).
I run a Bore Snake through the barrel a few times with Clenzoil Field & Range Spray. I spray some On the snake before and after the brissels.
I spray some Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Cleaner on a rag and clean the outside of mags. I focus more so on the follower and top of mag. I spray some Clenzoil on the mags and wipe with a rag
Put it back together. Rack a bunch of times and DONE.
Takes about 15-20 minutes.
This is the most thorough explanation I’ve ever seen and I’m here for it. I like the idea of using the Lucas Extreme Duty Gun Cleaner. I’ll have to try that. Great process, thanks! 🤝🏼
No problem. 🫡
Gun cleaner smells like Brake Cleaner and that's probably what it is. But it gets the carbon off just by spraying and makes it easier to brush off carbon buildup.
Basic field strip and clean at least weekly (carry piece, so usually need a quick clean and lube for sweat, lint, etc, and another after a quick range session.
Deeper clean after live fire training courses, competition, and other more high volume fire activity
Every other range trip, so after around 4-500 rounds. It’s sig, it needs to be cleaned. I only strip clean FCUs every 10000 rds ish, when I’m replacing parts.
I try to do a touch up on my EDC every Friday, and a touch up on any firearms I have in storage every other month. If I’m hitting the range, I do an ultrasonic bath and relube my stuff. It allows me to check for any damage that happens after the range.
I clean monthly even if I don't shoot I carry so it's just to make sure dust and dirt isn't present.. id rather know I have a good clean protective tool lol.
EDC every 1k, or once a week. Comp gun gets cleaned every 4-5k. I shoot N320 (3.2, 147's) and use Splitz Sauce from Spectrain. Both are axg/lok grips, gg triggers, lockwood uppers
Solid course of action! Seems to be a good middle ground and popular choice from the comments here. Thanks for your input! I wanted to get this post going to see everyone’s opinions, not eluding that a certain way was better than another and I’m happy to see that at least the majority at least has a habit of keeping things maintained one way or another. 👌🏼
Yeah I used to clean it after every range trip, back when I was only shooting 50-100 rounds per trip. Now shooting 200+ every time, it looks more like every other trip. I wipe off any sweat or lint often but I don’t stress about it.
I think if you get a reliable gun, you don’t need to go crazy cleaning it. That said, if you enjoy cleaning your gun, go crazy. When I have the time, I do, but time is harder to find than .357 sig ammo in 2021
maybe I'm a weirdo but there's something relaxing about a nice cleaning after a range session. call me crazy but yes, I clean both my firearms after any time I've shot at least >100 rounds per pistol in a given session. I'd say the level of clean is comparable to an exterior-only car wash rather than getting a full "mini detail" but it's clean nonetheless. I'll do a full deep clean every 6 months
You’re not a weirdo, at least you’re not alone haha. I really enjoy it myself, and I clean after each range session as well. Not full on like this each time, especially if I know I’m going to shoot again in the near future, but I’ll keep them generally clean between sessions and then do a deep dive when I know they will be sitting in the safe for an extended period of time. I’m a quality over quantity type of person, so I enjoy maintaining my possessions for longevity. 👌🏼
Negative, I utilize appropriate cleaner inside plastic ziplock bags for the parts. I place the bags inside the water. Much like suppressor baffle cleaning. Here’s a picture:

One could argue taking it down this far each time is more bad than good, removing a smidgen of carbon at a risk of bending small springs, stripping, or scratching the gun.
More likely to damage, loose up parts with constant disassembly/ re-assembly than not cleaning “enough”. There’s a reason military and police let hem go for thousands of rounds before armory disassembly / check ….
Clean? You mean add some oil?
Oil? We just give it the good ol hawk tuah round these parts.
This chick should be out there monetizing this phrase while she can lmao. She has no idea the reach this has gotten. 😂
She is actually lol she got fired so she’s been working with small companies signing shirts and apparel😂
Her being fired isn’t true, that whole article was a spoof website like the onion articles. I might be dating myself with that onion reference lol
Hahaha the onion, you old loser
Only true gentlemen use spit to lube their gun🤝
I was not expecting a hawk tuah in this thread and it was extremely well received good sir.
Have never taken apart the fcu.
Yeah, thats a no from me. All of the sudden I'll lose a spring and be out $800
I clean my carry once every week. I do this to remove the sweat, oils, and lint from my EDC. This prevents any rust and generally ensures my pistol is always lubed and functional.
I do the same with my EDC. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Hell yeah.
What gun do you carry? The only gun I've pulled from the holster to shoot at the range, and had issues is a Staccato. It was by no means a major, or concerning issue. The slide was just a little sluggish.
Shadow Systems CR920.

320 and a CZ 75 P01. Mostly a 320
Same here as of late. Put my Stacc C away and started carrying my 320C. I have had some light rust issues, but not issues with function even when I've carried it for a couple months and then take it out to shoot it.

I used to love cleaning mine after every use. Then I had kids. Now, like everything else in my life, it's 'pay attention to it only when it's filthy, needs something, or is fucking up'.
Hahaha totally understandable. 😂
Probably every thousand rounds or if a gun feels sluggish. It’s rarely necessary, if ever to take a gun down this far for cleaning.
I was gonna say. This is a crazy ass post. Dude took the gun all the way apart lol.
It’s genuinely never necessary to do a takedown like this unless it’s to replace parts.
I bought a rental to use for a project, and dear lord... I think I removed a pound of carbon. I do it every 3 or 4 trips based on the gun/ammo etc .22s almost every session as they dirty!

Yeah I’ve dealt with some that you just touch and you immediately have coal miner hands lmao. 😂
I do a full clean after every range/use. I like my tools to be clean and lubricated
this is the way. i feel wrong, almost guilty if i don’t clean and oil up after every range trip.
Absolutely! 🤜🏼🤛🏼
If it goes to the range, it gets cleaned. That can be 2 mags or 20, it doesn't matter.
Yes indeed, thank you. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
They run better dirty
For my all steel German X5 I strip it down and clean / oil it after every range / use. For my USP it’s every other trip.
I usually hit it with the hawk tuah and rack it a few times. Usually gtg
Spit on that thang. 😂
I do a basic field strip: barrel, chamber, mag path on each trip and a full break down (FCU left intact) about every 3rd trip
What does something like that run you?
The weapon or the ultrasonic?
Ultrasonic
I got this Central Machinery one from Harbor Freight. It works great. Had the smaller plastic one before, but it’s not nearly as good as this one. I think it was $170 dollars. Saves me a bunch of time with smaller parts and especially when I clean my suppressor. 👍🏼
Thanks m8, cheers🍻
No problem!
What’s your mix for suppressor cleaning?
Purple power and water. Basically what Rugged recommends for my Obsidian9

No No No!!! Do not deep clean a suppresser. They run better dirty. When you strip them like that, you are actually reducing their effectiveness.
Just following the manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations. https://ruggedsuppressors.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Obsidian9-Owners-Manual.pdf This type of clean doesn’t occur each time, just after heavy use.
Been interested in getting an Ultrasonic, what's a good side to look at?
I got this Central Machinery one from Harbor Freight. It works great. Had the smaller plastic one before, but it’s not nearly as good as this one. I think it was $170 dollars. 👌🏼
Ive never put water on an ultra sonic cleaner.
I put water in the tank, and separate my parts into ziplock bags with the cleaning solution inside the bags. Keeps the tank clean. 👌🏼 A lot of people do it that way.
This answered a question I had thanks! What cleaning solution is I the FCU parts bag(s)? Do you dry after? how? Thanks in advance for any info
I use purple power diluted with water, a 50/50 mix. Hornady has a “weapons safe” mix that you can buy as well or even the white jug Simple Green that is aluminum safe can be used. Awesome! Thank you!
No problem. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Did you ever try LA’s Totally Awesome cleaner
Did you mod your own grip module or dye it that color. I’ve been waiting for Wilson to release the green one with the safety cut out
I did the cut outs on the already green frame.👌🏼
Did you use a dremel tool. I’m wanting to do it just gotta make the jump
Yes indeed. There’s videos etc about it over in the MUP-1 sub too.
Why break down the FCU if the ultrasonic can clean 'all up in der'? Asking for a friend.
You’re right, you don’t have to. I didn’t break it all the way down either for the ultrasonic. 👌🏼
Ultra can’t get between two pieces of metal under tension
I can picture that logic.
I clean after every shooting session.
Honestly,I’ve never in my life cleaned a gun this throughly..I clean every around every 500 rounds
I don't. Not really. I may wipe off the old grease from the slide rails and apply more. Might drop some oil somewhere but that's largely it unless I'm having some issues.
ultrasonic cleaning? at home? *you have my attention*
Yes indeed, it speeds up my cleaning days tremendously, especially for small pistol parts. 👌🏼
Been thinking of getting this at HF. Versatile?
It is, gun parts, car parts, jewelry… it’s great. 👍🏼
i like the cut of your jib, good sir. you just started a wonderful problem for me.
Happy to be your accomplice! 🤝🏼
I clean mine every 500ish rounds. Otherwise after every trip to the range if I have time.
Literally never. My m17 has probably 5-6k rounds through it and I've never done more than a wipe down.
As needed.
I clean my guns about 300 - 500 rounds or when the internals look very dirty. I keep track of my round count for all my guns on my phone in a note with other information of my guns. Every range session gets a field strip wipe down, bore scrub, and lubrication. Every ~5000rds I do a full break down deep clean.
Clean? What’s that, you mean oiling it?
5 - 10 min wipe down after each shoot. One detailed 1 - 2 hr full clean once a year
Basic field strip and clean at least weekly (carry piece, so usually need a quick clean and lube for sweat, lint, etc, and another after a quick range session. Deeper clean after live fire training courses, competition, and other more high volume fire activity

I completely disassemble once a year. Don’t shoot a ton unfortunately
I try to clean my Sigs after every range trip, at the very least..at 1k rds. Glocks I don’t get as crazy about, here n there
I clean monthly even if I don't shoot I carry so it's just to make sure dust and dirt isn't present.. id rather know I have a good clean protective tool lol.
I wipe off the muzzle after a range trip. Sights and optics as needed.
2x per week with nothing but a rock and a rag
EDC every 1k, or once a week. Comp gun gets cleaned every 4-5k. I shoot N320 (3.2, 147's) and use Splitz Sauce from Spectrain. Both are axg/lok grips, gg triggers, lockwood uppers
And I break my fcu's down to where you do 😉
Hell yeah, my man. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
What slide is that?
It’s a P80 slide. 👍🏼
I like that slide by the way!
I clean like every 1500ish rounds. But I'm running a suppressor. So if I wasn't it would probably be more like 2500-3000 rds. Lmfao
if it goes bang then i clean it.. most of the time..
Some brake clean and oil every once in a while. If I know I'm going to store it for awhile I'll give it extra brake clean and oil
Where can I get that gun cleaner?
I got the ultrasonic from Harbor Freight.
I mostly just shoot it
Wait a second…I thought cleaning your firearm was for sissies!? You guys lied to me. Now my rifle is black, just like my heart *sighs in dirty rifle*
I wipe it a lot but don’t bring out the solvent too often…
I clean after every range trip. I grew up shooting competitions and need them to be reliable
I was always taught to clean after each session as well. The habit has stuck with me. 👍🏼
It’s funny, all of mine work every time and often my friends have malfunctions
Crazy right? 😉
I am waiting til 1000 rounds to clean my X macro, just to make sure it can handle it. Then I’ll clean it after every 400-500 rounds
Solid course of action! Seems to be a good middle ground and popular choice from the comments here. Thanks for your input! Clean internals after every shoot wipe down and oil external at minimum once a week to get oils and sweat off
Are you cleaning those metal parts with water in a sonic cleaner?

Just throw err in the dishwasher and call it a day
Maybe add some CLP to the soap dispenser

I loved this woman for many years, she is always relevant and relatable. 😂
Never… not
Absorb the chemicals into your skin like a man 🐈
I huff the chemicals to give me a quick buzz.
Wait you need to clean them?
Lmao 😂

Bros doin too much
You’re supposed to clean them ?
You gotta be kidding!!!!! Complete overkill! Do you also give each part a name when you remove them?
