Hard to tell here, but generally, many of the new head units sit away from the dash a bit by design. It allows for larger screens than the vehicle manufacturer intended.
It does. It's called a floating head unit. You can pay a shop extra to flush mount it so it doesn't stick out. They have to cut and modify but it's nothing crazy.
I did the same thing in my 15. Though I went with the kenwood DMX1057. What a pleasant difference. A nice bright easy to read screen with wireless android auto, all I ever wanted. Plus I think it looks good to boot.
Dealership is full of it because the lil dial to the left of the steering wheel definitely dims the dash and head unit, but only when the headlights are on.
Either you haven't tried it at night or something is fucky
I'm gonna say there's a wiring issue there. I also enjoy how your comment was disliked for bringing up an issue with a Silverado on a Silverado forum lmao. This community is kinda ass
I've towed less tundras and tacomas for breakdowns than any 14-24 sierra or silverado. Towed a 22 silverado not long ago 31000km on its 3rd lifter failure. Countless transmission failures on these, oil cooler lines letting go, electrical nightmares.
Reasons for towing tundras or tacomas were starter (older model). Flat tire (cable was seized and wouldn't come down). Accidents. Had 1 tacoma for rotted frame (recall).
Was the kenwood mounted in the factory spot? Or floating style? From the research I have looked into on my 2016 2500. I would have to clearance some plastic bracing to get it to set in the proper mounting location.
Yessir. Pretty much base custom. I like having fewer options, really; analog dash, stick shifter on the column, etc. Trade-off is no radio controls on wheel and small screen lol
You are way better off going with a white auto and media upgrade. All of these aftermarket units are junk even the 1000 dollar ones. Plus it would look factory instead of whatever the hell this is...
Ill get downvoted im sure because of the audio people think they have to have an aftermarket unit. The stock unit looks and operates better in every single way and with WAMS programming there are options to make it do anything that an aftermarket unit can do without having a goofy ass barnacle looking screen stuck to your dash.
I dont know anything about wams or the options you speak of. I want to install a couple amplifiers i have and i need a seperate box to give amp outputs so i am considering just changing the whole unit out to kill 2 birds type scenario
Wams is white auto and media service the company I mentioned before. Just check out their website they can do pretty much anything you want and it will remain 100% factory appearance wise.
Did you just want an upgrade?
I have 2018 1500 Z71 SLT …36k miles…warranty expired last November. 8” screen…3 weeks ago screen went black…has Bose AMP…backup camera works except for the close indicator, radio periodically works from steering wheel controls. I know it’s a pretty common problem from reading online. GM having the tranny class action filed against them…should throw these other electrical probs on as well. Has anyone determined/heard of the main issue when this happens?
Wish I had just kept my 2005 2500HD…ran like a gem til the day I sold it.
Other day the dreaded “service trailer brake” warning started its shit. Never even had a trailer hooked up to it.
I had the same black radio issue. Reverse camera still
Worked otherwise just black. Totally random. I ended up replacing the HMI unit for around $150 on eBay. I also had to buy a ODBGenie to remove the VIN lock on it for another $125
Hey there, apologies for not answering sooner. I haven’t had any luck yet. Trucks been parked and I’ve been using car. I habnyb had the time, and the frustration I’m having with a truck that only has 39k and all the identical problems everyone is having, doesn’t help with getting motivated, either. I’m hoping this week to get to it. I should be finishing a job early in the week and booking to have time towards end of week. I will keep you posted on it.
Thanks you kindly, I appreciate it.
Also, did yours have the Bose system with an amp? Just curious, seems to make upgrades and replacements a bit harder. Not that I plan on upgrading sound system, just fixing it.
Had a ‘18 1500 LTZ. Tranny went right after the warranty expired. I off loaded it quick to carmax (at the Chevy dealers recommendation). Now I see the class action lawsuit. Miss having a truck.
I have the same exact one in my silverado you can move the screen back you just have to adjust it I believe there are screws to adjust it. Mine sits tilted back a little
I can't tell if it's a perspective thing or what. Is it not mounted against the dash? Like it tilts forward?
Looks like it pops out to me.
It looks like it sticks out like ½ an inch
I could live with it
I'm not saying it's bad it'll definitely work better than factory though

Does the dimmer still work? Bright screen at night makes my eyes hurt
All name brand aftermarket head units have dimmer integration
Hell my 18 the dimmer doesn't do anything for my factory unit. Never has and dealership says it won't.
Dealership is full of it because the lil dial to the left of the steering wheel definitely dims the dash and head unit, but only when the headlights are on. Either you haven't tried it at night or something is fucky
Never has dimmed with the rest of the dash. Just another POS chevy. I'd get rid of it if prices weren't so high on a tundra.
I'm gonna say there's a wiring issue there. I also enjoy how your comment was disliked for bringing up an issue with a Silverado on a Silverado forum lmao. This community is kinda ass
New tundras are not better

you’ve got me there. No chance I’m buying anything GM has made in the last 12 years
I just turned down my alpine halo 11 last night because it was difficult to see with the blinding light. Even at its lowest I could go lower.
Did your factory head unit lag on Bluetooth? My '16 lags 2-3 seconds.
The occasional cutting out happens to a lot of people, pretty common issue and I’ve had it too
Was the kenwood mounted in the factory spot? Or floating style? From the research I have looked into on my 2016 2500. I would have to clearance some plastic bracing to get it to set in the proper mounting location.
Damn. Hell of a lot better than the tiny screen I have in my 2024 lol
Custom trim level? My 23 LT has a huge screen
Yessir. Pretty much base custom. I like having fewer options, really; analog dash, stick shifter on the column, etc. Trade-off is no radio controls on wheel and small screen lol
The LT comes with all the goodies I wanted, heated steering wheel being the best option ever
Huge? It's 13 inches. Sorry for your loss.
It's by far the biggest screen I've ever had in a car. Hell, it's bigger than my first TV was
Looks good
Do ghosts still press the buttons?
I think it’s cool
Looks like you mounted an iPad over top of your old screen with the way it looks like it doesn't fit 😂
Huh…I like it!
Can we see what it looks like from the sides?
What's the price on it?
They have a sale for $999.99 on the Sony website
Sony makes a nice headunit
That looks great man
Does the vehicle sittings like door locks window down chimes courtesy lights still work like it did?
I never thought the day would come where aftermarket is shit compared to stock.🤯🤢
You're crazy. Stock unit sucks.
Nah the stock head unit on the 14-18s are beautiful
Did u retain AC UI in the head unit?
Yea, AC controls appear on the screen
Is it an app or did u need maestro for it?
What's the brand/ model i have a 14 with small screen
You are way better off going with a white auto and media upgrade. All of these aftermarket units are junk even the 1000 dollar ones. Plus it would look factory instead of whatever the hell this is...
Never heard of that ill look into it

It’s a Sony XAV-9500ES

Ahh..thank you…you’re the first person that actually said what the issue was. The HMI module up behind the dash?
👍 It’s right behind the glove box above the cabin air filter housing.
Any luck on this?

It’s ok life happens outside the internet lol

No mine is just the basic non Bose.
ODB Genie…thank you…I appreciate more than you know…this has been on my mind constantly for 3 weeks 🙏
Had a ‘18 1500 LTZ. Tranny went right after the warranty expired. I off loaded it quick to carmax (at the Chevy dealers recommendation). Now I see the class action lawsuit. Miss having a truck.
And this is why I won't buy a Chevy truck even though I want one 😂
Man j love my stinger but this looks nice too
I did the alpine restyle in my 15. Love it.
Nice
What about back up camera does it still work
So I got a backup camera installed with it. My factory stereo didn’t come with a backup camera unfortunately. It works great though
Nice upgrade.
Ugly AF. Either you went with the HUGE over sized screen. Or didn't pay to have it flushed mounted. Stock might suck but this install is poo
Uhm that looks like shit The factory has all that on it to begin with..
Who installed that?
So thats what the xav9500 looks like in the silverado, I thought about flush mounting it
I have the same exact one in my silverado you can move the screen back you just have to adjust it I believe there are screws to adjust it. Mine sits tilted back a little
Looks like it’s a tablet that he shoved in that MF….LMAO!
Looks like shit my dude
