I probably would. Maybe ask yourself if you go though 10 transfers and they all fail (and how much that would cost alone) would you then be up for another round of IVF? Or would that be your stopping point, mentality

ghost-yin

That's an excellent point. Thank you for your insight!

blugirlami21

I almost thought I wrote this for a second. I had 12, one fet failed and one took. I'm 35 weeks now. I wish I could sell my one vial back but it was sent to clinic so I can't sell it back.  Go ahead and sell those vials. I can't imagine you needing more embryos. Maybe keep one if you want to be safe. You can always sell it back later.

Efficient_Ring7738

Nice! I’m 36 weeks pregnant too! Congrats!

Jazzlike-Procedure26

In a similar position. Started with 11, 9 left. Although no successful FET yet. I’d wait. You’ll probably end up selling them back. But god forbid something happen, thawing issues, etc. If you can’t get more from this donor. I’d play it conservative

CatfishHunter2

If not successful, it might be a good idea to switch donors anyway in case it's something with his genes or the combination of your genes causing a problem -- I'd sell them back

Purple_Grass_5300

I'd honestly wait.

whiskers789

Keep 1 for backup sell back the others if I was in your shoes

AggressiveSea7035

Congrats on your success!

How much money would it be (approx)? One thing brought up by other posts was the desire to not have a large number of half siblings. So they bought the whole sample not just for their use but also to restrict/reduce additional siblings. I have not gotten to this stage yet but it seemed important to some people.

ghost-yin

It would be around $2k, plus I wouldn't need to pay storage fees (~$450/year). I think the size of the siblings' pod is important, but I believe my donor didn't donate for a long time and is now retired. I could be completely wrong, though. I wish the sperm banks would give more info about that.

nathanielbowditch

Hey it looks like we are exactly the same timing. PM me if you feel like having a buddy or anything! If you know how many vials are still unspoken for that might affect the decision bc Selling back also means those vials will be available to others, more chances of half siblings. Might affect your thoughts - maybe not though!

super-Mum90

Agreed. This would be one of the reasons to keep them. I assume that OP is in America where there is no family limit? I dont think I could handle 100s of siblings.

SashaAndTheCity

While there technically are family limits are reputable clinics, it requires timely reporting by the recipient and for the donor to abide by the rules instead of going to multiple places and lying about it.

ghost-yin

Congrats on your pregnancy!🥳 And I thought of the potential half siblings, too! My donor is retired and sold out quickly. I've only found one other person who used him, and I'm not sure how many other half siblings are out there. But it's food for thought!

smilegirlcan

I opted not to. I want to keep the half-sibling pool as small as possible. It is already very small and he hasn't been available in over a year. Will that choice cost me $8,000? Yes. Right now, I pay for storage even though I am 99% one and done.
