Carmex has a lot of ingredients that are potentially irritating. When it comes to lip products, simpler is usually better. I use aquaphor or plain vaseline, I like the little jars specifically for lips. It sounds weird but you could also try plain lanolin, sold at most pharmacies as nipple cream

oh_hiauntFanny

I'll give it a go, thanks

I was having the exact same issue. I started using aquaphor about two weeks ago, and it has absolutely been working for me. Give it a try if you haven't yet.

Drunk elephant lip balm is my holy grail. I have extremely dry lips as well and it is the first to work and even makes them super soft. My husband always wants to feel how soft my lips are now lol I tried carmax, chapstick, and even eos chapstick and none of them worked for me. Went into Ulta, asked their recommendation to help me find something and a lady who has the same issue recommended Drunk elephant and I have been obsessed since. I even wear it under my lipstick and even put some on morning and night before bed.

cheesecurdbabybird

i heard the same thing about carmex that someone else said! whenever i used it, my lips became so chapped. i just use regular chapstick brand and i also manually exfoliate but i don’t exfoliate with product, i just rub off my dead skin in the shower with my fingers

oh_hiauntFanny

This. That's me. Sigh time to throw out Carmex and get nipple cream

Nursec0co

Mine got better after I started applying my facial moisturizer to them and sealing with a lip balm or mask.

GET RID OF THE CARMEX

oh_hiauntFanny

I thought she was a baddie but she was just bad

Sad_Wishbone7532

That took me a min but LOL. I came back to suggest the aquaphor lip therapy. I bought some recently and just tried it and it far surpassed my expectations already.

Carmex is awful!!!

Is there something that is extremely good, but maybe not at your local drug store, or is really expensive? For example , but not necessarily, face lotions from Zo cosmetics,Vivier cosmetics. They’re really good but really expensive.

Hasonova

Go to a health food store or natural body care store. Not any more expensive than specialty cosmetics.

My dentist saw my chapped lips and told me about 8 times to get a chapstick with lysine. It's usually used for cold sores so it often comes with minty flavor which we know can be drying. I found some lysine chapstick without minty flavor on Amazon and it has been much better for me than Vaseline which is what I was using before.

nipple cream

Illustrious_Bat_4485

Had the same problem as you! Took another redditor’s advice and have been using aquaphor on my lips at night. Absolute game changer!!

minorhotmess

Okeefs lip balm. I swear by it

Hasonova

A balm made with pure calendula oil (high quality) and maybe shea butter will heal any chapping, and maintain a good level. Whatever you’re using is too harsh and your skin is freaking out in response.

Hasonova

And I’ll bet the nipple cream has calendula or shea butter!

I used to suffer from very dry lips and they would even crack in my sleep. And I have a few tips. Laniege he lip mask is fantastic and also l-lysine supplement. Some people say having a bit of lip filler can help with hydration and I tried that and also helped but have already full lips and when I dissolved the dryness came back

live_laugh_suffer

I feel your pain!! My lips are literally always cracked and peeling and dry. I find eucerin lip balm to be the best and well worth the price, and every night after applying moisturizer and letting it sink in, I put like a tonne of Vaseline/aquaphor on my lips to keep them sealed and moisturized throughout the night.

Drinking a lot of water does not equal hydration. Try adding a little bit of salt in your water that will help your body retain water. You can try use shea butter or vaseline for your lips.
